Sean Penn 'Suspicious' of Wyclef Jean's Run for Haiti Presidency

Sean Penn has spoken out about Wyclef Jean‘s intention to run for President of Haiti.

“This is somebody who’s going to receive an enormous amount of support from the United States, and I have to say I’m very suspicious of it, simply because he, as an ambassador at large, has been virtually silent. For those of us in Haiti, he has been a non-presence,” Sean told CNN (via USA Today).

“I’m not accusing Wyclef Jean of being an opportunist; I don’t know the man,” Sean added. “One of the reasons I don’t know very much about Wyclef Jean is that I haven’t seen or heard anything of him in these last six months that I’ve been in Haiti.”

Wyclef responded on The Gayle King Show today, saying, “He hasn’t seen me for six months – I have been going to Haiti for more than five years. When the hurricane toppled Haiti, I was the first one there….if I did not create Yele Haiti to start stopping the violence, even him coming to Haiti would not have been possible today.”

SEAN PENN JUST DIE SCUM

can’t help but completely agree with what Sean Penn is saying. I think Wyclef Jean obviously has pure intentions but is going about trying to help his home country the wrong way

# 3

Sean Penn has every right to be suspicious of Wyclef Jean’s decision to run for the position of the Haitian President.

Wyclef Jean should explain all the financial irregularities with the charity he set up for Haiti plus the fact that he owes the IRS so much money. It is quite inappropriate that a man who is associated with such actions should run for election especially when Haiti desperately needs HONEST politicians to help rebuild their country.

Haiti is a commie boy dream, all those poor people to RULE!

I think the same as Sean Penn, Wyclef Jean has been very quiet ad embassador, practicly nothin’ of what he done on media. Also, he was acussed by used money of their fundation for other stuffs…

Sean Penn is right on the ball with this one … Wyclef is just another opportunist looking to try and milk this poor country for his personal gain.

Not a good idea @ 08/06/2010 at 5:17 pm

I hate, hate, hate Sean Penn. That said , I agree with him on this issue. What would Wyclef Jean bring to the Haitian presidency? From what I can tell not much except a shady charity and back taxes.

I dont think Wyclef is qualified to be President

And I doubt that he created anything there…on his own. DOn´t really like Sean Penn either, but, who the heck does Wycleff thinks he is? Going there like that, running for president, as if there arn´t better people out there for the job.

I just can´t stand it when actors/singers turn all super-duper political on everyone. If they were oh so very much interested in politics—why the hell did none of them go for politics instead of the entertainer industry?

This is why i love sean penn

“(…)if I did not create Yele Haiti to start stopping the violence, even him coming to Haiti would not have been possible today.”

United Nations Peace Force – They are the ones doing really something there.

He can barely speak Creole, can not speak French and his rapper’s English isn’t particularly sparkling. How is he to communicate with people? How is he gonna read those complex French government documents? How is he qualified? Why can’t he stick with his charity? Why do you need to be President for? Sean Penn is just speaking from an outsiders point of view. Through his percepective it’s like wtf? I think it’s mine also.

This is CRAZY !!!! Are you for real !!!! CHEATER & now wants to be pretz — What is the F**** With him … Sorry I am haitian but I can not support you Wyclef – you barely speak Creole – you do not speak a word of french – u put your mistress to the charitable organization and paying her over 100k doll – Please God Save Us from EVIL!

If he were an attorney specializing in international law, then maybe. You need someone who has strong positive political ties with many countries, epecially the Caribbean. This person needs to be able to look at the ruling class and say that he is opening up Haiti for entrprenuers. They no longer will be getting first dibs on contracts because there hasn’t been progress. It’s a post earthquake new Haiti.

It is just nonsense. A lot of people are feeling for the folks in Haiiti, but that is still no reason to walk there like you own the place, or have any right to play politician.
-
Cause that is exactly what he would be doing, playing. getting attention. And why the hell does he even think that he, out of all people, has anything to offer that would get those people somewhere?
-
What is his background, his education, what trouble has he caused before, how consistant is he in his doings?
-
-
Really now, feeling for others is ok, if you have the money and want to donate it, it is ok too. Normal working people can do that, but ….just…what the hell……I really don´t understand some people.

If he really wants do “help” so badly, he should take ten years, twenty even, get active in other fields and see just how fun that is.

Running for president……….oh boy….

Let’s see these giant egos duke it out in a cage match.

Maybe he’s using Haiti to pay off his debt. When he did his fake crying addressing being accused of a corrupt organization, I didnt trust him from there. Anyway, he has no experience and doesn’t seem all that bright. God no, bad idea.

@zoz: well, a while ago he was on Oprah crying about it and now he was just on Gayles show. If Oprah has his back he’s in. Oprah is bigger than Sean Penn.

Sean Penn is not a stupid man. Far from it! He walks the walk and is making a huuuge difference over in Haiti. I do not trust Wyclef as far as I could throw him. Many native Haitians feel the same. So screw his damn ego.

Wyclef Jean is a tool, he can’t even speak the official languages of Haiti… how would he govern that country?

While I’m also not fully convinced of Wycleaf Jean running for president, I surely don’t trust either Penn’s comments. This is a man that supports Chavez. So I’m not exactly sure if he’s only interested in Haiti’s good will on this issue particularly.

Penn is a loser!

Usually I don’t tend to like Sean Penn very much. But here he’s spot on. The sad thing is, I’m pretty sure Wyclef might actually win.
