Rooney Mara: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Rooney Mara: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Rooney Mara has won the lead role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Sony announced in a press release today that the actress, who’s the younger sister of Kate Mara, will play Lisbeth Salander and star opposite Daniel Craig in the American adaptation of the film series. Shooting begins next month in Sweden!

Rooney appeared in Youth in Revolt and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street – she’ll also hit the screen this fall in The Social Network.

Director David Fincher went on a hunt all through Hollywood to find the perfect girl for the role, considering high profile actresses but ended up choosing Rooney, who he’d worked with on The Social Network!

Congrats, Rooney!!

Interesting! There have been a lot of unknowns cast in big roles lately…

# 2

I havent seen her in anything. Hopefully she’s up to the task. PRESSURE.

# 3

I dont’ think they can top the original, Noomi Rapace was amazing as Lisbeth Salander, but it’s an intersting choice.

# 4

Who’s “Kara” Mara? How about Kate Mara instead?

# 5

@yeah: Agreed, Noomi Rapace set the bar VERY high. Hope they can do justice to the books, and not hollywoodize it too much..

Doubt very much that this will turn out a tenth as good as the original. Oh well, not the first, nor the last thing to be ruined ….

Another cookie cutter actress….she looks like every other brunette out there…boring!

Big Role? This thing can bomb…
I love how hollywood assumes that this trilogy will be an automatic hit.
Why don’t they worry about making the first film instead of assuming the 2nd and 3rd?

A lot of successful books have performed poorly as movies.

I’m still bamboozled by the decision to remake the film? It terrifies me that Hollywood will turn it into a glossy, overly action dependant production with less emphasis on the character development. Will it be filmed in Stockholm? It’s just hard to see how Hollywood can do justice to the book and an already superb film, and to have another city standing in for Stockholm feels so wrong. Noomi was Salander to perfection…can’t help feeling this will be a Hollywood disaster. It’s such a dark, edgy book and film that any Holllywood gloss and CGI will be detrimental. Daniel Craig is a great choice…but I remain dubious.

I know who Kate Mara is….let’s hope her sister is up to the task. Noomi Rapace was pretty AMAZING!! If you have not seen the “original”….skip this Americanized version to come.

she is too young… I dont know how she will pull off what Noomi Repace created.. very difficult.. best of luck..its a Massive Deal!

I haven’t seen the version starring Noomi Rapace, but I will. Having said this though, I think the US version will be great as well. Considering the director attached to the film, David Fincher, this should be amazing! If you haven’t seen Se7en or Fight Club, check them out. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the “hollywood treatment”. It’s def NOT his style.

not sure why for every successful north-european movie there has to be a remake in Hollywood? Can they come up with something original rather than annoyingly and often unsuccessfully redo someone else masterpiece? I would understand if it was perhaps a very old movie, but a recent one? Same happened with ‘Brothers’.

i was hoping that Noomi Rapace would change her mind and agree to do the american version. i agree that this is an interesting choice. it might make sense to have cast this unknown. there is not going to be the same level of expectation put on Rooney that there would be put on say ellen page, keira knightly etc etc.

Lisbeth is not found still @ 08/16/2010 at 4:54 pm

Jezus Maria, this is not Lisbeth Salander but a scarecrow in pic.

Noomi Rapace is and will always be the perfect Lisbeth Salander! Remaking it Hollywood style will end in the gutter. This is travesty!

@Brightside: so we can probably lighten the mood a bit and give it a bright, shiny happy ending -as i have heard the book is pretty dark. another reason why we need to remake the movie is becuase there is nothing but crap out here now anyway. no one is original and the original ones are so oversaturated that you want to run screaming from the theatre.

the girl that is tired of remakes and cried real big tears when she heard will smith was cast in the remake of old boy.

Glad she’s an unknown. Wish she had that bad ass look though.

to “jezus maria”; that, unfortunately IS Lisbeth–scarecrow Heroine.

Are they remaking the film or are they doing a film adaptation of the book? I’ve read the book, and everyone’s vision of a fictional story is different. I’ve seen the Swedish version and it was wonderful, but it just seems ignorant to write off this version just b/c it comes from Hollywood or the US. Crap movies, music, etc. aren’t exclusive to one geographic region.

Very happy emma watson didn’t make it!!!
i was shocked about those rumors…
don’t know that girl, but i’m sure she will do better than emma watson!…

This girl was horrible in A Nightmare On Elm Street, she has the intensity of a raisin. I know A Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t shakespeare but this girls acting is like watching paint dry.

They’re making it in Sweden, the actors are supposed to have swedish accents… why the HELL are they remaking it in the first place?! **** Hollywood!

looks the part, I wont’ judge until Dan makes her a star. good luck with sleeping with DANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN aaaaaahhhhhhhhh! life is sooo unfair!!! Seriously, she has to nail it, everyone will be watching, and I think she would NOT have been chosen if she didn’t have talent… ….BUT don’t ever say “it’s NOT who ya know, it is what ya know”—if you have ever thought that. Its a game, she won big time. And who cares what she looks like now cuz she AINT gonna look anything like herself in the movies. wow. she has to be in HEAVEN! some other pics of her. She looks like she’ll be a good choice for the role. So far it looks like HW is trying to remain true to the book.

the first Swedish movie was good, the second one was horrible and the third one ok.
So Fincher will surely do better.
Only Noomi Rapace was really a class act, so I’m looking forward to this new adaption.

David Fincher also directed Benjamin Button. The special effects were brilliant but he recycled Forrest Gump material. There was zero chemistry between Brad Pitt and Cate Banchett. That Fincher film was so over-rated.

It is entertainment, and entertainment is driven by the laws of economics… …”if it is making millions in other markets… hell, why can’t we make a movie out of it? “” she will be her own lisbeth and she will be great…it is inevitable…she has everyone around her to make it great, therefore, the laws of association==impossible NOT to be good or great. aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh

What books on the top sellers list have NOT been made a movie from it? hhhmmmm.

to Guinness

“AND MENDEL–did you make it here???”

Yes, here now! And I just got my mitts on the book today, and I’ve started reading – I really like the beginning and am getting into it. I’m starting to form an idea of the characters, and I can definitely see Dan as Blomkvist. Since I know nothing of Mara as an actress, I have no idea if she’s any good, but I can see her as Salander simply on appearance. But it depends if she can emit this power Salander has – that’s the sense I am getting from the character – Salander has this incredible power that makes people take a step back.

Noomi Rapace IS Lisbeth and will always be but this Rooney girl is a better choice than Ellen Page or Kristin Stewart

Agree with you Maria, when I heard the rumors that Ellen Page and Kristin Stewart were some of the choices for Lisbeth I almost gagged.

Dee, to be quite honest I think what sounds really ignorant is to do the remake of an already existing movie a few years after the original came out! I have no problem watching good movies coming out of America or HW dear, what I find infinitely boring and rather irritating is having to do a remake … why,Americans do not watch a movie if it is not in English and made in the US? What crap! What’s next, a remake of “Life is beautiful?’ Good luck finding the cast … and writing the script!

PrettySimpleton @ 08/17/2010 at 12:12 am

I think it is kind of obvious how this actress got this part over the others .
The director had worked with her before so most likely the casting couch was involved lol. Wink wink.
Otherwise it doesnt really make sense the casting choice because they needed a name because this film is going to bomb most likely and they needed a name to pull atleast some morons into to see it.
Reminds of Doug Liman( one of the worst directors ever) He always uses the same cheap people for everything he does and for the most part only people he knows.
A : because they will work for next to nothing
B: because they screw their way into the part of course lol

If this director had cast Ellen Page or one of the other known front runners they would of had to pay them alot more and they couldnt of got some quality time on the casting couch ;p Like I am sure they did with this little “starlet” tart of an actress.

most silly comment ever. David Fincher has a reputation, he has worked with good actors and I don’t consider Morgan Freeman, Jode Foster, Edward Norton, Forrest Whitaker, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr.,Cate Blanchet and Brad Pitt and as “cheap actors”.
He has worked with Kristin Stewart before, so he might knew that she was not suitable for Lisbeth.

Agree with 40 -. why not sit back and wait, what comes out of this.

Good luck to her.

Unlike American movie “originals” remade after a few years or so or TV shows remade as Hollywood “blockbusters” – It’s MOST likely being remade so it reaches a far LARGER audience than the Swedish original… I mean, I’d heard about it, but no way was I traveling 100 miles to see it when it wasn’t being shown locally. If it was, I never heard about so I didn’t see it.
-
It’s like a miniseries I saw a few years ago on BRAVO! that had me seriously glued to my TV – It confused the hell out of me, & when it was repeated a year or so later, I taped it to actually try & analyze it… WOW! Then it was “remade” US-style & it just wasn’t the same. More was explained but…
-
Maybe someone can help me with a title (thanks in advance)… I know it was set in an old hospital that was cursed – The ghost of a little girl haunts it because she was tortured & murdered years earlier & only a few people see her (including 2 Downs’ Syndrome kitchen workers, a man & a woman, who have the sight & talk in unison). Things keep escalating as the hospital goes to hell while the ghost is trapped & fated to suffer in death as she did in life. It ended with the ambulance driving away & her bloody hand pounding at the window in a vain attempt to get attention… Not sure, but the director shows up as the credits roll explaining a few things…
-
HELP!!!

Sounds like “The Kingdom” (the original danish title was “Ridget”) and the remake was Stephen King ‘s “Kingdom Hospital”

Daniel is Hot @ 08/17/2010 at 11:17 am

Let’s not judge Rooney Mara before we see her performance; let’s not the judge the movie before it comes out. Remember when Daniel was announced to be the “blond Bond”? Everyone put him down before they really knew what he was about. He proved them all wrong. Maybe this gal and the director will show us what they have and it will be a great movie.

two sides of opinions @ 08/17/2010 at 11:19 am

from one different forum about Rooney:

She may not be totally unknown, but I still have no clue who she is.

two things come to my mind:
she’s not butch enough for Lisbeth Salander. Sorry, she’s too pretty.
Can she actually kick ass? Can she play tough, mean, and aggressive? looking at her photo, I don’t buy her as Lisbeth Salander.

I just can’t see a pretty girl like Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. I was hoping for an unknown actress who looks butch (“butch” like Michelle Rodriguez or Hilary Swank). They’re both good-looking, but have a butch edge to their looks and it makes them different from typical Hollywood blonde clones.

She is supposed to be small and dainty-looking, that’s why everyone is surprised when she does kick ass. She’s resourceful, she has to be. Her strength is her intelligence, not a load of muscles.

We know that Fincher has wanted an actress that could get a handle on a Swedish accent (that is, speaking Swedish-accented English, one would assume)

Wait, you mean we’ll have to endure fake Swedish accents even though it’s an American remake? Why not just set in the US, or at least Britain?

Most of the time, they just have them use a British accent, you know like in that movie in Italy… Gladiator.

She was terrible in “A Nightmare…”
And she wasn’t even hot to compensate.

i only saw her in Nightmare on Elm Street, and i didnt think she was tht good

I blame the director

Was that her ass I saw in The Social Network trailers, or someone else’s?

HER’S!

Boo. She sucks as does NOES remake. The first disappointing news to come out surrounding this film, and it’s a big one.

people in the industry are satisfied with Fincher’s choice: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wirestory?id=11416082&page=1

two sides of opinions @ 08/17/2010 at 11:37 am

I attended some forums to find what they tell about Rooney and most of them are critic about her and a few people give her a chance.
I do not agree with Fincher, I am also disappointed because I thought he will make an excellent choice. But I try to give a chance to Rooney and still wait for him to talk in an interview in the next few days.

Why does Hollywood have to remake everything? Especially since the remakes are almost always worse than the original versions.

two sides of opinions @ 08/17/2010 at 12:33 pm

people in the industry are satisfied with Fincher’s choice:
—————————————————————-
of course, they are!
The sooner the better for them with receiving dollars by moviegoers who think Rooney is not enough good for Salander.
There Hollywood producers prefer quantity than quality while watchers demand quality.
The Swedish Original was quality and Rapace was a strong actress.
Rooney is a little cute chicken from Elm Street, nothing more.

Thanks for answering me. I did a search on the title but it came up as a war movie. Then I added “miniseries” & got “Kingdom”. Anyway, that’s it.

I agree with DIH–and she brought up a great example about Dan being the new Bond.

And–I am reading the book and watched the first hour of the movie! AND I have a lot to say. But I can’t. I think Lis’s personality is such that ANY one can portray her and make her their own; she is sooo “multifaceted” that they could emphasize one aspect of it tremendously, but other parts about her will be missed, and that will be ok. she emits something–toward her. yes, mendel. hhhhmmm. the book is great and i can “get past” the icky stuff for now. and the movie is good, but i can see where it is going to be awesome with dan. it could be different if the screenplay was written by a woman… that would be my wish. now, where is that Bond news??

to DiH

“Maybe this gal and the director will show us what they have and it will be a great movie”

Yes, Fincher must have seen something of Lisbeth in Mara… So I wait and see

to Guinness

“yes, mendel. hhhhmmm. the book is great and i can “get past” the icky stuff for now.”

I just couldn’t put the book down this evening and read it really quickly, wow it’s good! And I didn’t find the ‘icky’ stuff too graphic – it was rather described in a journalistic style which stated what was happening very cleary, but without any gratuitous detail. The book is of course, very disturbing. I don’t understand why they changed the title though – ‘Men who hate women’ is far more appropriate in my opinion, because that’s the main issue in the book.

good points. hm. journalistic style…. without any gratuitous detail. the author wrote it this way, without any emotion, to keep it less icky so that we can watch it and empathize with Lis when she gets her revenge. I agree friend on keeping that title–very clever of you.
Would the book and movie be just as good if there weren’t any violent scenes written or shown on the movie? I actually skipped it cuz my mum was watching with me and i told her the details and explained why it was important characterization. Couldn’t he have written the scenes and inferred the violence? Was the scene where she sodomizes him be cut out of the movie and the audience get the idea if he wrote it better? why do we “need” these scenes? hhhhmmm. Can’t a comedian be just as funny if he told “clean” jokes? George Carlin was funny with or without his dirty schtick. I think. Or Bill Cosby is funny, Eddie Murphy “RAW” was hysterical, but i love all his movies too.

food for thought, i can’t get that scene outa my head now. so why is that important. hhhmmm….

think happy thoughts think happy thoughts, can’t think dan thoughts yet, get icky thought outa head… think Dan and Bond… yeah. ~night peeps. and DTM and DIH, come on over to this thread….

‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ star Rooney Mara is ‘exceptionally gifted,’ says her ‘Youth in Revolt’ director

After news broke yesterday that Rooney Mara had landed the lead role of Lisbeth Salander in the three-picture Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, interest in the relatively unknown actress spiked, landing her in the top 10 Google search trends.

Mara most recently starred in the 2010 reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street update and 2009′s Youth in Revolt, in which she played Portia Doubleday’s promiscuous roommate Taggarty. “She auditioned for the role of Sheeni [which went to Doubleday] and was great,” says Youth director Miguel Arteta. “We were debating the right person for that part, and she was among the people we loved. We wanted her in the movie and asked if she would do this smaller part, and she was gracious enough to do it.”

And while it’s no small task to go from a supporting role in an indie comedy to the title character in a hotly anticipated U.S. remake of a literary phenomenon, Arteta sounds unconcerned, calling Mara an “exceptionally talented” actress. “She’s got that perfect combination of mystery and familiarity that it takes to make a movie star,” he says. “The reason I cast her was because she had to be able to look at somebody and seduce them without a word. She has one of those gazes where you can see so much into what she’s thinking, without her saying anything.”

But with a high-profile gig like Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy comes intense scrutiny, something that Arteta believes the Lisbeth-to-be is more than capable of handling. He says: “I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she handles it in a very elegant way. She is a surprisingly confident woman for her age. I had no doubt when I cast her that she would go on to be a movie star.”

American Remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Taking Shape

Yes, it’s taking shape. I just haven’t yet decided what shape it’s taking. I saw the original Swedish film earlier this year and it is one of my favorite movies of the year. By that time the American version was already a foregone conclusion. The big question was whether it was going to be a Hollywood cash grab or if someone was genuinely interested in offering up another take on the material.

I believe it is still too early too tell, but the fact that David Fincher is the man behind the camera gives me some hope for quality. I mean, the one movie I thought of while I watched this was Fincher’s Zodiac. Now, I have heard some suggest this will be the equivalent of Gus Van Sant’s Psycho debacle. I only hope it is not that bad.

With shooting slated for early 2011, the cast is starting to take shape. Daniel Craig is on board to play the male lead. I like this. The role is a rugged type but not necessarily a star and while it can be argued that Craig is a big star, I still feel he has the skill to pull it off convincingly. The character is a reporter and one of his fellow reporters will be played by Robin Wright, a casting choice I am indifferent to as it is not a major role and she does have the right look for it.

There is a family (the Vanger family) being investigated in the film and two members have been cast. One will be Stellan Skarsgard. He is a fine actor and a good choice for the film. The other has been revealed to be Max Von Sydow. His presence should lend some credibility to the film as he generally makes everything better.

These roles are all fine. The big question mark is the female lead. The character is Lisbeth Salander and she was played so memorably by Noomi Rapace, who brings strength and vulnerability to the screen in what is not your typical heroine. This is the key role for the film and one that will be very difficult for whoever should take it on.

Lisbeth has been cast and the actress is Rooney Mara. I can almost hear you say “Who?” She was most recently seen in A Nightmare on Elm Street, where she was all right save for all her mumbling. I am really not sure I am going to like her in this role, she doesn’t strike me as having the right qualities. Of course, I can think of no one other than Noomi Rapace.

I guess we will see when the film reaches theaters sometime next year.

Yes. Last week. RT @kingfuraday Howard Stern mentioned that Cowboys & Aliens looked amazing. Guess you sent him the reel too?

The Swedish films will always be the benchmark for me and Noomi Rapace will always be the only Lisbeth Salander since she originated the role. She was brilliant in the films. However, I’ve been happy with the casting news on the American films so far and I’m very happy that the American Lisbeth is a relative unknown. In my opinion, it would not have worked with a named star. David Fincher held true to his word and cast an unknown in the role. Go Finch! I’ll watch the American series once it’s completed, but my heart will always always belong to the Swedish films.

David Fincher held true to his word and cast an unknown in the role.
—————————————————-
I just think he did not keep to promise.
He originally planned to cast a European actress, a really unknown one.
Noomi Rapace is a self-taught actress and before nobody in Sweden knew her while Rooney is the actress from Elm Street and a lot of people know she is in Finchers Social Network Facebook.
and she is an American, not an European like Noomi is.
if Fincher hired a European unknown girl it would look differently.

Is Dan in transit again?
I finished the first movie…it had “foreign film” written all over it….so I loved it. And these books are enough such that if Linch wanted to make a totally diff movie he can pull on the other stories and develop this a different way. cool. Lisbeth’s characterization is the conclusion of ALL “Men hating Women”. I think if a woman wrote the screen play it would be diff because men and women have different ideas of revenge some times…. men would revenge more physical (torture)–women would do the head game revenge(secretly drain all assets from bank account). agreed? ok. so the author used both. maybe a little stereotyping–but I would drain the assets of the icky men if i was a hacker rather than sodomize—cuz he is gonna forget the physical stuff–but ******** his real happiness for life–wallet??? what would you do? that is why i can tell it is written by a man. but i am a little feminist….

did you finish the book Mendel?

Hi Guinness

“Would the book and movie be just as good if there weren’t any violent scenes written or shown on the movie?”

I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t know which of the violent scenes are in the film. I think that in the book, the author doesn’t linger on them, he doesn’t go into every detail of the violence, but states what’s happening – it’s shocking but not graphic. I think most of the violence is necessary to show what these men do to women. If Larsson had not stated clearly what they do, then it would be far harder to understand the underlying theme of the book.
I’d say, in a movie you can imply far more, because a picture says more than a thousand words, and I think you’d get the idea from a few shots where you do not need to show much, as long as you get the atmosphere right.

“I think if a woman wrote the screen play it would be diff because men and women have different ideas of revenge some times…. ”

Apart from Lisbeth…;)

“men would revenge more physical (torture)–women would do the head game revenge(secretly drain all assets from bank account). agreed?”

I have to admit I do like Lisbeth’s ‘tattoo skills’ :)

“ok. so the author used both. maybe a little stereotyping–but I would drain the assets of the icky men if i was a hacker rather than sodomize—cuz he is gonna forget the physical stuff–but ******** his real happiness for life–wallet??? what would you do? that is why i can tell it is written by a man. but i am a little feminist….”

I think Larsson used that scene to show that Lisbeth was dead serious about revenge. She did to the rapist what he had done to her, and then some… It is probably more shocking because her actions are considered rather ‘masculine’ – but there are some very violent women out there, too. But you are right, most women would resort to more subtle tactics (or poison…)

“did you finish the book Mendel?”

Oh yes, and I am now reading it for the second time :)

Hi Mendel, Guinness, DiH and Fio..
About Lisbeth and revenge…don’t forget that she may or may not have Aspergers or some kind or Autism. If this is the case she is most likely to seek revenge through violence if this is what has been done to her. If she is hit then she will hit back.

Hey you two!!! Excellent. Thank you for your insight. The author had to write the violent acts to build the Lisbeth character, and to justify the revenge. One always has to justify. (won’t get into cap punishment here!!!). Lisbeth is so many personalities that it may urk me a little that there is not enough mystery to her…the only mystery–I take that back–is when she shows empathy… that is the strongest points, not when she is in the act of getting revenge. hhmm. cool. masculine violence… agreed–it had to be done that way. And sweetie–are you going to get the second book?you said you will read the 2st book again… let me know if you find something you missed the first time and write about it. i didn’t finish the first one, but my hubby said the second is better than the first and he is getting the 3rd book for his b-day NEXT WEEK. so i will have all 3 lucky me!!! OH, cheers–you starting the weekend tomorrow????

AAHHH good point DTM; although Autism/Asberger’s syndrome are all intertwined (at least in the USA system–what a mess), this may indicate why she is withdrawn sometimes… or without empathy to carry out the violent acts or, to in fact, “do unto others as they had done to me”. so, very good. But should we let the author get off so easily as to explain her personality this way? I would prefer to think she is this way from environmental issues rather than genetics. it helps the revenge feeling I want as an audience member. wwweee haww this is getting deep. write me back…fun!!! (i know its not my blog–but it is Dan’s. Dan rocks my socks off!!)

Guinness-bad typos @ 08/18/2010 at 8:03 pm

sorry–asperger’s syndrome-DTM

Actually its Rooneys!

The only thing worrying me about this film is Daniel attempting a Swedish accent. I hope he can pull it off…wasn’t too sure about his accent in Defiance. I found it a little off putting.

I hope they do figure something out for that…you are correct. He had no trace of British accent in Steady Rain though, is english or sweedish more diff?. And agreed–he moved his face differently when he was speaking in Defiance too-i didnt like his accent–he did okay though. .

How did I say it before?
I said that MGM never will be sold but will enter combination with other company and the investors who help financially to MGM will get some percentage and holders will have to agree with new terms if they wanna see their money back!
I also believed Lionsgate will too join MGM. Right?!

A plan by Spyglass Entertainment to take over management of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has taken a major step forward and is now being considered by all of the struggling studio’s lenders – reports the LA Times………! a good newspaper…………..

Spyglass chiefs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum first began discussions with a handful of MGM’s top debt owners several months ago.

On Wednesday, those leading debt owners, which include Anchorage Advisors and Highland Capital, presented the Spyglass plan to MGM’s more than 100 debt owners on a conference call, in hopes that they will endorse it.

In exchange, Barber and Birnbaum would get an ownership stake of 4% to 5% in the new MGM.

The studio would produce several movies per year, including a “James Bond” movie and two planned pictures based on “The Hobbit,” and outsource theatrical distribution to one of the six major studios per year.

If the group can’t reach a final agreement with Barber and Birnbaum, Lions Gate Entertainment is believed to remain eager to move in with its rival merger proposal.
…………….
hopefully Lions Gate will also help MGM and invest money in Bond.

Dan said it is very difficult for him to learn foreign accents.
a swedish soft accent will be difficult for him in the same way like it had been with a Russian soft accent in Defiance.
…………………………..
he is not successful with learning Slavonic accents but looks like Slavic, they said about him:

“He looks very Slavic. Polish or maybe Russian or something like that. I bet if he were around as an actor during the Cold War, he’d get the part of some Communist spy enemy of Bond’s.”

“Craig has a dodgy Slavic accent.”

“Daniel Craig, with his Slavic steel eyes, becomes the reluctant noble hero.”

“Daniel Craig looked Slavic enough for me in the movie and it wasn’t distracting. Liev Schreiber’s accent was dead on.”

From the first time I saw Daniel Craig I too thought he looked Russian. I’m glad to get my impression confirmed by an expert. :-)”

“In Defiance, Tuvia’s face is weathered and stubbled, his eyes icy blue, his features almost Slavic. This is Daniel Craig, whose face is his fortune, not only as the most recent James Bond but across a growing body of significant work, which includes Munich and Road To Perdition.”

“I adore Daniel Craig as Bond precisely because he does look like a New Russian”

http://perfumesmellinthings.blogspot.com/2007/04/perfume-review-amouage-reflection-for.html

someone’s twitter – Daniel who is speaking Russian seems to get drunk. Boo! I never giggled in the scene where Tuvia had revenge! …maybe…lol

it is a good news prosaically.
it indicates the things going the right direction, MGM didnt go totally bankrupt.
except me, all people believed in crash and sell MGM through auction but it goes the way that I predicted:
appearance of new investors on the scene of action,
merge with other companies,
new investors put up money in MGM movies, including Bond who is delayed because of MGM.
so now expect news about Bond as Spyglass, MGM (Lionsgate will surely join) conclude deals and………………….

nice find Fio…the comments were well observed too. yee haw—Bond is getting closer… he will have a weekend job too.

sooo, if the set is in San Diego and Dan is in the middle of where ever he is—he isn’t in California, correct? Or Arizona. ohmygash, we have lost DANNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, is he up with you, DIH?

Daniel is Hot @ 08/19/2010 at 2:20 pm

Hey, is he up with you, DIH?

Guinness, sorry he is not here with me. Wish he was. Did not someone post a while ago that he has some extra work on Dream House to do in Toronto? Maybe he is there?

Bond is getting closer… he will have a weekend job too.

Great it is is ture. The more movies he makes, the better for all of us. I wonder when he will start working on Girl?Tattoo

So I was right as I heard Swedes speaking softly like Slavic people. Good luck, Daniel…as you weren’t good at soft Russian… ˇ
The Swedish actor Nyqvist also speaks… softly…
I stared as some posters from other forum tried to decipher how to spell Mikael, Bjurman, no one knew it correctly.
I say it simply: Mikael, Bjurman. Finito.
A more famous model Petra Nemcova is considered to be sexy for her soft Czech accent so the audience would love listen to other similar one like Swedish accent.

http://dragontattoofilm.com/2010/03/paper-magazine-takes-a-look-at-noomi-rapace/
Rapace, who is half Swedish, half Spanish (her father was a Flamenco singer), transformed herself both physically and emotionally for the role as the brilliant, androgynous and potentially Aspergers-afflicted private investigator who helps journalist Mikael Blomkvist solve the four-decade-old mystery of a teen heiress’s disappearance.

For seven months prior to filming, the softspoken 30-year-old took kickboxing classes four to five times a week and endured multiple nose and ear piercings in order to scrap all traces of her “feminine side” and channel the tiny punk P.I. At a certain point, Rapace said, “I was in her or she was in me — it was so strange, I didn’t really know who I was or what I had become.” On set, Rapace recalls, “I was pretty isolated the whole time. Everyone would be talking and having a nice time, and I’d be sitting in a corner drinking coffee in my own loneliness.”

HI DIH! Sorry to hear he isn’ t “up” with you!!! It does seem as if we will see him alot next year, beginning with the “dream House” when? then C&A–where we won’t see his PFA, only Olivia’s. oh–doesn’t he lift his shirt? I don’t care, he is hot with or without clothes on. And, as one person wrote… i dont’ care becuase there is no chance i will ever be with the dude–it is all “iiiimmmmaaaaaggggiiiiinnnnnaaaatiiiion!!! oh, speaking of which, chk this out friends…. if you want us to use our mouths, you use yours!!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,599562,00.html

And Nooomi should win everything for this role…thank you for that post “career”. It looked brutal and it really consumed her time and life…damn. it was a great movie–hubby is watching it tonight–can’t wait to hear his opinion. I do have to say a few things about the character mikael—and Dan does have a challenge–I have said he will slide easily into this role, but … interesting. what do you say(my peeps?) about dan and any challenges for him in the dragon tatoo Girl movies??

Hi Guinness

“Are you going to get the second book?”

Yes, and the 3rd, too. I have them reserved for me in our local library already!

“Let me know if you find something you missed the first time”

A lots of the details. And also I am starting to think that in some way, the reader knows as little about Mikael than about Lisbeth – Mikael seems so easy-going and open, but actually, he’s a character that is sometimes harder to grasp than Lisbeth.

“I would prefer to think she is this way from environmental issues rather than genetics.”

I think it is more environment/upbringing than genetics. As far as I know, people with Asperger Syndrome are rather withdrawn than in any way violent.

“it helps the revenge feeling I want as an audience member.”

Lisbeth does the things many people would love to do – at least sometimes…

“english or sweedish more diff?”

I still think the whole idea about the accent is silly. Does Hollywood usually do that? Remake foreign films and give English speakers funny accents? I can’t remember any other foreign film that ‘got’ an accent…
It seems bizarre, even more so because the Swedes, like all Scandinavians, don’t really speak English with a strong accent. You can usually distinguish the French, German, Spanish, Polish and other accents but the Scandinavians are really hard to pinpoint in conversation.

to DiH

“I wonder when he will start working on Girl?Tattoo”

September, but if he has to do reshoots for Dream House, maybe it will be October until he starts?

to ‘career’

thanks for the info. I am really looking forward to see the film (book 1) – must get my hands on it somehow…

to Guinness

“I do have to say a few things about the character mikael”

Do – you make me curious!!!

Those of you who think Noomi Rapace set the bar and that the swedish film was really good- obviously didn’t read the novels. As to why they are making an American version- the Swedish ones are not that good. The first film failed to create major relationships and focused too much on the murder mystery. Noomi was too big and too hard looking. Lisbeth Salander is supposed to be tiny- 4 foot tall and vulnerable. There was nothing vulnerable or tiny about Noomi. And all of the actors looked too old. The swedish guy playing Blomkvist is hardly attractive- why would women swoon for him (as they do in the books) he’s so dorky.

The reason the films are being remade is because someone who actually read the books needs to write the screenplay. I think Rooney Mara is a great choice- she looks softer and will be a believable victim- which is what Lisbeth Salander has been. Salander is not supposed to look and act like a biker chick. She’s a girl with a history of violence who only acts against those who deserve it and the way she does it is smart- not so much kick ass in leather and studs. Read the books.

@Fio: I’m not really sure what kind of people go out of their way to impersonate celebrities and actors on twitter and other social networking sites, but this is another sad example of that. The picture posted by this prankster is from a theme park in Illinois called Donley’s Wild West Town. The evidence is here in this article http://www.womansday.com/Articles/Family-Lifestyle/Travel/9-Themed-Regional-Amusement-Parks.html scroll down to 5th entry.

Lisbeth Salander is supposed to be tiny- 4 foot tall and vulnerable. There was nothing vulnerable or tiny about Noomi.
———————————————————–
agree,
that is why I am disappointed like most people that Fincher surprisingly took an actress from The Social Network which he directed.

I have a specific vision about a shorter, fragile, as innocent as a dandy-babe, a little punkie with a fuse hair who can surprisingly beat a tall tough guy.
Noomi was not identical to Salander from the books because she did not have a look of a 14 old girl. simply she is a old Lisbeth but perfect.
The best actress that Sweden produced.
as for soft, cute Rooney, she is a mile away from my vision about Lisbeth who looks more like Yo-Landi who served a temple in Finchers head.

Fio–looks as if the guy from airbender is quite the prankster.(or whoever twittered that) to take it as an insult to our fanatic observations of the movie–hmm?

All i can say about the sweedish version is that it was a great movie and everyone involved interpreted the books differently. I was glad they casted unHollywood-like actors–that is what foreign films are supposed to do. …i wish a female scriptwriter for it…boo hoo.

to GC
Thanks, I just saw the pic. yeah, you’re right! Anyone can pretend celebrities. (The article of comic book movie was deleted)

NoahTwitter @ 08/20/2010 at 10:59 am

Well that happens to a lot of twitter account not only to the celeb ones.

dandy-babe @ 08/20/2010 at 3:03 pm

There was a huge list of actresses wanting a role of Lisbeth in the swedish version but director Oplev talked only to one actress who had a big chance to win a part.
then Oplev saw a photo and a smaller movie of Rapace and he decided for her.
So Rapace snatched a part and saved it for herself.
She was the second actress who came to two auditions.

As I did not buy that whole auction and sell MGM but I came with telling about investors who will go inside MGM and offer loans to save the company so now it all happened exactly as I said.

Now I do not buy that Dragon Tattoo begins shooting next month or in October. There are reasons that would make Rudin and Sony to make a change in their plan.
Moreover, I found that writer Zaillian is not done with the script still
and Sony does not have money.
Just wait for next weeks what happens, if they will really be shooting a movie.

1. Mikael is persisant in his job
b. he is not one of the “men who hate women”, unless that is why he sleeps with all of them as if they were his tools.
4. He is brave and smart–to write about powerful people in the finiancial occupation, you have to be—that or stupid.
E. he is nice and cheery and too friendly…. he doesn’t get angry and tantrum when the injustice of it all hits his source of income.
A. his emotions are expressed as sarcastic, empathetic and not really supportive either.
Z. he is a loner. he doesn’t attach to anyone, which allows himself to “attach” to something outside of his comfort zone. I think that is why people attract to Lisbeth–she is different, yet she is loyal, not needy, mysteriously mysterious–but not on purpose–its just her nature, and loving when she gives it to you it feels as though it is well deserved and you feel that you gained some points with her when no one else could.
12. he is comfortable in any given situation and takes his just desert–like he already knows what is coming.
5. he just isnt’ too dynamic and too free to do what he wants.
10. he is complacent, and says, “what the hell”–this is what i gotto do next. ok. then, next.
1. driven when he wants to be…he didnt’ “want” to take the job for Vanger… I would have been wayyyy interested!!!

ok. now, rip it apart mendel,( and what a nice green person you are by “renting” the books instead of having more trees in circulation)…. i hope the second book he gets more of a personality, then the author did NOT write a complete book. ( i could send you my copy and you can write notes in it and send it back)

~the weekend!! happy weekend… i am imbibing seriously… it was monday every day this week except today!!!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/morris-ruskin/rooney-mara-is-the-girl-w_b_688234.html

whoa—this is gooood. The last sentence. she will have to have some serious internal conversations thru those red carpet times with Dan around her and Dan holding her shoulder (hahahaha-cuz he doesn’t hold the waist–I would PUT my hand there if he didnt, in fact, i do do that to my dan) for pictures like he does and yeah, I am sure she will feel bad when everyone tells her she didn’t make a trillion dollars for everyone-just a couple quadmillion. whtevr. but still, I feel like I wrote this article! same feeling about Micheal Keaton!!! and……. yep–its all about money, and you can’t get any vids at a vid store–online, UPS delivery or at walmart with the red box!!!! wow.

Thanks for giving us a different angle on the original. I also imagine Lisbeth to look tiny and also very young – that’s why people either overlook her or think she’s a victim.

Hi Guinness

thanks for all the links!

“now, rip it apart mendel”

I am too sleepy to do much damage ;) But here we go:

“he is not one of the “men who hate women”, unless that is why he sleeps with all of them as if they were his tools.”

He doesn’t really seduce though, he is seduced by both Lisbeth and Celia – and I bet Erika is also the dominant one… I get the feeling, women come on to him and he’s like ‘er…yeah…alright then..’

“he doesn’t get angry and tantrum when the injustice of it all hits his source of income”

I got the impression he was seething inside though…and he takes revenge (his book at the end) – just in a more acceptable (and legal) ways than Lisbeth

“he is a loner. he doesn’t attach to anyone”

True. He isn’t an obvious loner, but he is. This might come with the job though, but he doesn’t even have much contact to his daughter.

“he just isnt’ too dynamic … he is complacent”

Yes, but then again he can be impulsive and reckless – for instance when he goes to the house where he nearly ends up dead (I don’t want to spoil this for anybody who hasn’t read the books, but I think you know what I mean)

I might come up with more after a good night’s sleep!

ok. i didnt get thru the book yet, so I am glad to find that he does have other revealing scenes…didn’t know about the daughter. hhmm. and i still think the bedding…I dont’ agree with him getting “seduced” by the women. maybe i need to read that part again. :) !!!!!!!
i will read more of the first book and give my opinion again because my thoughts change about it…. i talk with hubby and others who have read it… my friend told me the other day that she “loved this movie”…..and she thought i would love it….lo and behold—it was the dragon tatoo. My friend especially loved the part where liz jumped in, got on top, did her thing, then she was done and left—just like what a man would do…. ha. sorry. sexism is part of me.. .love me or hate me!

be safe and have fun out there!!! ~G

The Sweeney @ 08/21/2010 at 8:54 am

Ray Winstone and Daniel Craig the new Regan and Carter?

By Paul Cole on Aug 21, 10 01:21 PM

Hot news is that the movie version of cult TV cop caper The Sweeney is back on.
And the dream team to play Regan and Carter is Ray Winstone and Daniel Craig.
The original roles, of course, were taken by the late John Thaw and Denis Waterman.
Writer and director Nick Love has been trying to get the movie motoring for years but there have been wrangles over the rights.
Now Vertigo Films has taken the driving seat, and Love is writing a fresh draft of the script.
You’re nicked, my son.
And a reminder of classic genius on the next page …

I’m devouring ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’ today. As for Sweeney, if it’s true, Daniel will surely hurt his health!

why should Sweeny hurt his health??? I see much more danger for his health in smoking 40 cigarettes a day as Blomqvist.

‘Road to Perdition,’ the best comic-book movie without capes, hits Blu-ray

Ask most moviegoers to name a comic-book movie and they’ll say “Iron Man,” “The Dark Knight” or maybe one of the “Spider-Man” films, but the sector goes far beyond the superhero fare — just consider the jarringly eclectic film festival you could organize with comics adaptations like “Persepolis,” “Ghostworld,” “Akira,” “Sin City,” “300,” “History of Violence,” “Men in Black,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “American Splendor” and “30 Days of Night.”

The best of the no-cape comics adaptations? Here’s a vote for “Road to Perdition,” the 2002 crime masterpiece that has just arrived on Blu-ray for the first time and looks fantastic in the format. The movie presents a grim tribal tale of fathers and sons in the Irish gangland of Depression-era Chicago and the cast is outstanding.

Two cinema titans, Paul Newman and Tom Hanks, are studies in restraint and emotional simmer and there is plenty of talent around them with Tyler Hoechlin, Daniel Craig, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law in a truly memorable turn as soicopathic hit man who sells photos of his own crime scenes, a brilliant mash-up of Frank Nitti and Weegee.

The late Conrad L. Hall won a richly deserved Oscar as the film’s director of photography but the film was MIA in the best picture category which was a mystery to me at the time and, with the clarity of Blu-ray hindsight, seems like a travesty.

It was the final feature film appearance by Newman (he would, however, do the voice work in “Cars” a few years later) and that makes it even more evocative to revisit. That goes beyond the audience; last week I visited the New Mexico set of “Cowboys and Aliens” (yes, another non-cape comic-book adaption) and had a chance to sit down with Craig for a long chat.

As he rolled tobacco in the shade, the subject turned to “Perdition” and he immediately mentioned Newman.

“I’d like to see it again,” Craig said. “That for me was an incredible experience, working with Newman and Connie Hall. It was quite emotional on set actually. Connie and he had worked together forever. They had been through a lot. Newman had one foot in that old movie star era and one foot in the sort of modern era. He straddled it. He was a pure movie star in every sense of the world but he was a great, great actor.”

Craig is working with Harrison Ford on “Cowboys and Aliens” and he said the first day on the set reminded him of working with Newman.

“There’s that thing — what do you do if you walk into the room and a hero of yours is standing there and you have to work with them? With Newman, it was great to see he was going through all the angst and worries that an actor goes through. Was it going to be good? How is it going to work? He was what, 76, when he made it? Christ, if I can make it that far and still be as excited about working as he was — I will be very happy. He made a lot of good choices in life.”
I mentioned that “Perdition” was based on a comic book and Craig blinked before he spoke. “You can steal stories from anywhere — steal without prejudice. That’s true that it was a comic book, I actually had forgotten that.”

It’s easy to forget. When the film was first released Dreamworks Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox discouraged any prominent mention that the movie was an adaptation of a graphic novel. The decision was made that the comics heritage might run at odds with the eventual Oscar campaign.

Max Allan Collins, the great pulp-spirited author of the “Perdition” graphic novel, says it’s amazing how the Hollywood view of the source material has changed in just eight years. “I certainly understood at the time but it is nice to see how the perception has changed and the fact that the book and I are prominent in the Blu-ray bonus features.”

Here’s a bit from that bonus material:

When “Perdition” came out some critics found it too frosty or emotionally remote. Roger Ebert, for instance, wrote in his review: “After I saw ‘Road to Perdition,’ I knew I admired it, but I didn’t know if I liked it. I am still not sure. It is cold and holds us outside. Yes, there is the love of Hanks for his son, but how sadly he is forced to express it.” It’s a valid point, to be sure, but for me watching the bottled emotions underscored the time and setting — these were men who kept their feelings under lock and key and searched each other’s eyes for weakness. It was a cold world of hard choices and the road to “Perdition” is a journey worth taking again.

Where is an interview in which Fincher talks about Dragon Tattoo, actress and release?
It was wise from me I advised to read la times but now I have that feeling to read Daily Mail.
As I read many opinions about Rooney as Salander so most of fans don’t welcome her greatly, doubt or don’t buy her as Salander and the rest of them “give her a chance.”
So no one is 100% convinced about her?

If Rapace gets a part in Mission Impossible 4 so she can come to the Czech Republic with Cruise who plans shooting in Prague. He made his first Mission Impossible in Czech so it’d be for the second time if he appeared again here. Now he is negotiating with Stillking Films who served there when Casino Royale set arrived to Czech.

The movie Golden Compass should be originally made in Czech too but for a certain reason (tax relief) it failed.

dandy-babe @ 08/21/2010 at 3:49 pm

Fincher, come to make Dragon Tattoo to Czech too!
I want to see Dan and also Rapace and Cruise in Prague!

nice posts people!!! ah, did that one interviewer say Dan was rolling tobacco? He is getting ready to play mikael? jhc i wanted a cig while i watched noomi—she smoked in every scene!!!

LA times interview was a good story. and wow,,, that musta been an incredible experience with tom and paul. Why does this not get mentioned when people are slighting Dan…he has worked with the top of his profession, his resume is outstanding..HE is outstanding. his true fans know!!! aaahhhhhhh.

and that twitter guy–soooo luckhheeee. and fun. James freaking Bond. I think if i met him in a bar—-and i have said this before, what would i say… if i EVER meet the man with mine own eyeballs, i would ask to buy him a beer… or just give him one. ok. enuff goofy fan-aticism here…. you been a bad Mendel last night?did you wear golashes? or babushka? any money left? no gaol is good too. and Mikael is still evolving for me in the book…i just his daughter–that was pretty quick. why was she even in the book? to find the bible? how else is he going to use her? maybe later.

thanks for the Twitter finds! So C&A has wrapped! Onto the next project then, Dan…

“I think if i met him in a bar—-and i have said this before, what would i say… if i EVER meet the man with mine own eyeballs, i would ask to buy him a beer… or just give him one”

Right there and then…? *grin*

“why was she even in the book? to find the bible?”

Yes, also in a way she helped Mikael getting into the mind of Harriet who was the same age when she disappeared. I think the similarities
(same age, being religious) made him think more how a sixteen year old girl would think and act

to DiH

“I think women just find Mikael so attractive they seduce him. That is why Daniel is such a good fit in this role.”

True…but I also think that Mikael doesn’t come across as threatening or having this male-predatory-aggressiveness. He’s attractive, but relaxed, he doesn’t immediately pounce on women, so that somehow makes women pounce on him…

Hi! And I need to read the second book first before I reread the first–but do share your thoughts again DIH…ah, I think the sweede movie may creep into my ideas–I was afraid of that. I wasn;t seduced by the sweedish mikael. but then when “sexxy” parts of the book come along–i visualize Dan. funny. Hubby said Mikael was nondescript, and he really didn’t seduce anyone–he happened to be lucky, so ok. I guess it is what one defines as seducing another. Like foreplay–diff people have diff ideas of it…hmm. (wow, that may indicate why me & hubby are togeth.)

damn Mendel–you are lucky the end of the month is soooooon!!! are ya goin’ to Sweeden on the next month’s salary? wow, you have to have priorities!!!

and I would definitely give him more than one…. nice catch.

yummmm pouncing. pounce. and yes, you have an interesting point… the quiet ones still get as much bedding as loud, confident men..just because us women attract to the quiet, descreetly smoldering hotness. but Mikael doesnt know that–I think he thinks he just gets lucky, and if he doesn’t he could go home and go to sleep just as well. But somehow, i think Dan KNOWS his hotness and uses it…. oh yeah. (though-I like him when he playing his quietness) oooo-sweet dan dreams!

lol
Yeah, I just worried about his tight schedule.

Translator Steve Murray is disappointed at Rooney. SONY didn’t like Rooney according to the source of dailymail. However, Fincher persuaded them. (take note: dailymail!)

Daniel’s schedule is very tight…he should start shooting at Universal Studios in LA in a couple of days to finish off C&A which could take up to a month. Then there is 2 weeks of reshoots on Dream House in Toronto starting 27th Sept and in the meantime Fincher wanted to start shooting Dragon Tatt in Stockholm in Sept also…maybe he will start on scenes that won’t involve DC.
He is certainly working his perfectly formed ass off!

In the meantime I think we need a little DC light relief…

I think they will not start shooting next month for some reasons
and Mara will do like the first swedish actress who almost won a part but then came the better one, Rapace.
Mara will be replaced as Fincher will discover a photo of the second actress…

I said before I am disappointed that they picked up Rooney Mara!
I also said this:
“as for soft, cute Rooney, she is a mile away from my vision about Lisbeth who looks more like Yo-Landi who served as a temple in Finchers head.”

Steve Murray said:
‘I’m a bit disappointed. I think Rooney Mara looks a bit soft.
‘I’ve seen pictures of her on the internet and she doesn’t look anything like the picture I had of Salander in my head. She needs to do some working out if she’s going to play the part. She is just not buff enough at the moment. I must say I am disappointed.’

Now I say, Fincher will yet find the better and more right actress like it had happened to Oplev, with the first adept and then Rapace.
We can expect news about 007 in two months, read a newspapers Sunday…..

Cobbler, stick to your last! That’s why Murray is a translator and neither a director nor the boss of a castig agengy.

Murray is a translator but very right, it was a polite opinion from him…..
hm, SONY and others and I thought the same, hmmmm….
one day, Fincher finds someone better, and he, the studio and fans will be satisfied like was the Swedish film team and an audience proud of Noomi Rapace.

Once upon a time……do you believe the crap you are writing smart head?

Hi Guinness

“damn Mendel–you are lucky the end of the month is soooooon!!! are ya goin’ to Sweeden on the next month’s salary? wow, you have to have priorities!!!”

I’d love to :) But no, poor Mendel has to work…unfortunately…

“somehow, i think Dan KNOWS his hotness and uses it…. oh yeah.”

Oh absolutely he does! The way he moves, or swaggers ;), it just screams sexyness…

I hope he’s not working it off too much – then his denims will be sagging! But yes, I guess they might start on the scenes with Lisbeth where they don’t need Dan.

“Cobbler, stick to your last! That’s why Murray is a translator and neither a director nor the boss of a castig agengy.”

LOL! That’s true. But even as a translator, he must know that Lisbeth is not buff looking:

“Steve Murray said:
‘She needs to do some working out if she’s going to play the part. She is just not buff enough at the moment.’ ”

Lisbeth doesn’t look buff. She looks like a skinny teenager and people generally ignore her. She is tough, but not buff.

ah..correct…you must have a photographic memory.–”people ignore her.” anorexic, not buff. small-91 pounds, not tall. but eats like she is starving–maybe just a very high metabolism. because she smokes? she is just driven. why can’t that be the reason. AND i resent the fact the author really misused or missed the definition of Autism and Asperger’s… he didnt have to mention it…he was lacking words for describing her? . Interesting that it may bring up “issues” if the movies are presented this way in Hollywood. If anyone not fully described it is Mikael… he just seems boring next to Liz, or just low key concerned person about society and friends in the magazine. ~night, hate mondays.

Daniel is Hot @ 08/23/2010 at 11:47 pm

Let’s hope there is more “meat” in Mikael’s role, as Daniel deserves it. But then maybe he does not want to be centre stage all the time to give himself a rest. But we want him centre stage and to see his perfectly formed butt a few times (like in the Mother) hot hot!
Off to have DC dreams.

Exceptional @ 08/24/2010 at 7:49 am

to 127,
the first ones who didn’t believe in that Mara is the good choice for Salander was the studio Sony , then fans said that they don’t buy Mara as Salander and now the the translator Murray doubts too whether Mara is the right one for a part.

At any moment………..in Hollywood is each actress replaced by someone else. there are too many arguments against R. Mara, she must be replaced by a better actress.
That is exceptional when the studio’s and book translator’s opinion agrees with public opinion.

But, the one who knows Salander in full details is Larsson’s gf Eva Gabrielsson who surely helped Stieg with the books and told him how women act and think. Another woman helped him too, his niece, who inspired him to describe Salander.
that is why he could write well about Lisbeth.

Now after revelation Sony was not sure to hire Mara and Fincher had to persuade them, a translator said what he thinks of Mara so I would be pleased to hear Eva Gabrielsson’s opinion about Mara too!
…………………
by the way, Salander is skinny but also has some muscles for fight.
I know people who are skinny and have pretty muscles. Mara needs to do hard training to be looking sportingly and boyishly.

Hi DIH! Yes, and let us see more of the bod that the book shows us–he is always nekkid and bedding women. I hated the end in the first book. (I dont’ want to not like Robin–but she is gonna be great!) And like I said before–he can take them or leave them…even one he is “enamored” by? whatever. Dan is gonna play a womanizer, a driven journalist, a poopy dad, a leader, a wishy washy traveler, and just a happy go lucky guy afraid of commitment. wonderful.

hey–dtm–thank you for his schedule… he is gonna be up by me again!!!! yeeee haw cowgurl! maybe a little leaf-peeping? or Guinness peeping? (hi mendel)

Hi all…mmmm Lisbeth is certainly a complex character full of contradictions.
Tiny but powerful. Poor at school but highly inteligent.
Insecure but dresses in a way to attract attention.
As a child she felt alienated. An oddball. A square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Is she a product purely from her horredous upbringing?
She loves solving mathematical equations for fun..aspergers?
Anyway she makes Blomkvist seem dull in comparison.
His allure for women is perhaps that he expects very little from them in return. No strings attached.
I hope Fincher’s film lets daniel explore these relationships. Not even a mention of them in the Swedish production. Any excuse to see Dan with his kit off!!

to DtM
Thanks for some info/vid. When I watch Obsession, I always ‘pay attention’ to his little finger. lol

to hey
Looking for Lisbeth seems looking for the blue bird(L’oiseau bleu).
She might be somewhere. However, she was close to Fincher after all.

@Fio:
I read “Rapace” means a bird of prey in French or something like that.

L’oiseau bleu – sounds like the name Liz Baum, a Bond Girl appearing in the short story Risico 007.

They call Lisbeth Salander as a goth angel,
also there is a goth hero angel from history and religion,
she is called Lilith who has the same features like Lisbeth – revengful, chased by bad men, fighting.
a material like Angelina Jolie (Beautiful Angel), playing female heroes.

so if Fincher will really not be directing Dragont Tattoo next month so he can find a goth angel Lisbeth for us.

Some posters of different forums said:

“He could have chosen ANY of the bevvy of gifted young actresses out there and he chooses Rooney Mara? They obviously cast her for her appeal. She’s not a good actress. You disappoint me, Fincher.”

“But if she or the filmmakers disappoint, there will be hell to pay.”

“I know, it’s fun to say that Mara is wrong for the part, but can we reserve judgment until the film is actually completed?”

“No, I do not feel she is right for the role. She appears to delicate, where as Noomi seems to work for how the character is portrayed.”

“The pictures I saw of Rooney this morning killed her for me..she has DIMPLES!!! Can you even remotely imagine kick-ass Salander with dimples?! Still think Natalie Portman or a complete unknown/unseen would have been the best choice.”

“disappointing choice… no amount of goth makeover will make Rooney Mara into a Lisbeth Salander. This girl is no tough waif, nothing about her face or body exudes any fierceness. Noomi Rapace is a hard act to follow. Mara looks like some girl who’d cry over a broken nail.”

“Not sure how Rooney Mara will fair in this role; Noomi Rapace knocked it out of the park, and I don’t see R.M. being able to approach the level of intensity N.R. brought to the role (actually, I can’t see ANYONE in the role besides her).”

“Really Fincher? She was so boring as Nancy. She just seems like a really bad choice for this role.”

Hi DTM…that is pretty much it in a nutshell. what book did you like most? my hubby got the 3rd for his b-day and he can’t put it down. He really hopes Dan will put some personality into Mikael…cuz there ain’t much in the book character. I think that is what will happen. they do have to “Hollywoodize” it anyway. cheers. thanks for your dd–dilligent digging!!

Hi Mendel–finish book 2, wait, did the library call to let you get book 2??? Starts out pretty less sadistic, huh? rriiiiiigght. I can’t imagine Mara (last name is her first in my head–ahhh) being this! but she will!!!!

Hi Guinness

“If anyone not fully described it is Mikael… he just seems boring next to Liz, or just low key concerned person about society and friends in the magazine.”

I haven’t read the other two books, but I guess Mikael is a person who cares deeply about ‘issues’ but hasn’t really ‘lived’ (experienced) them, while Lisbeth has…so she’s got the horrible experience while he has the good will…

to DiH

“we want him centre stage and to see his perfectly formed butt a few times”

Yay!

to Guinness

“I hated the end in the first book.”

I didn’t hate it, but it was a bit unbelievable. For somebody as guarded and jaded as Lisbeth, these emotions came to quickly…

“Dan is gonna play a womanizer, a driven journalist, a poopy dad, a leader, a wishy washy traveler, and just a happy go lucky guy afraid of commitment. wonderful.”

That does sound familiar *grin*

“he is gonna be up by me again!!!! yeeee haw cowgurl! maybe a little leaf-peeping? or Guinness peeping? (hi mendel)”

Hrmph! But then he’ll come back to me (well, I suspect he will hop over from Sweden to the UK for a bit of home comforts…)

to DtM

“A square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Is she a product purely from her horredous upbringing?”

No, if she hadn’t had that upbringing, I think she still would have been an oddball, just a happier one. I like the bit in the first book where she was musing about why people didn’t just leave her alone when all she wanted to do was mind her own business.

“I hope Fincher’s film lets daniel explore these relationships. Not even a mention of them in the Swedish production. Any excuse to see Dan with his kit off!!”

Lol! Any excuse indeed! And hopefully Fincher lets Dan give his character more depth.

Hi Guinness

“Hi Mendel–finish book 2, wait, did the library call to let you get book 2???”

Not yet…I’m waiting!

“-oh, thank jeevus about “Why-clefft” in not becoming a president, huh?!!!”

Yes, although he’s going to appeal the decision. I think he should rather clean up his act with his charity organisation. There are rumours of mismanagement and corruption, and that’s serious…

“i still cant get the mother acting out of my head”

Yes, I too keep thinking of his hot body there…yes, yes, yes :)

Bond Films Will Continue @ 08/25/2010 at 7:31 am

Bond Films Will Continue, Says Studio Boss
The boss of the movie studio where the BOND films are shot has assured fans there will be another outing for 007 – even though the next installment is currently on hold.

Producers of the as-yet-untitled 23rd movie had hoped for a release in 2011 or 2012 but have been forced to stall Daniel Craig’s third turn as the superspy indefinitely due to uncertainty over the future of MGM.

The decision sparked fears among some fans that Bond has saved the world for the last time – but the boss of Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, where most indoor scenes for the films are shot, has moved to end the speculation.

Chief executive Ivan Dunleavy says, “I am sure there will be another Bond movie in future.”

He is also adamant the planned closure of the UK Film Council will not be the end of movie-making in Britain, adding: “That decision has been made and there are a number of functions that the UK Film Council performs and they will be ongoing.”

Where is Larsson’s gf Eva Gabrielsson with her opinion about Rooney Mara?
just asking why there is no humbug around Dragon Tattoo filming? September knocks on the door already…..!
Reports say Dragont Tattoo begins shooting this fall and it’ll be released in Dec, 2011 …but
I warned,
Sony can return to their original schedule that looked like that:
shooting a movie in fall of 2011 and release in the summer of 2012.

So, if they do not begin shooting inside two, maximately three months it will be clear they returned to their original schedule. just wait for three months what happens.

Hi Guinness

thanks for the links. I think Liz would certainly have something to say about (and do to) Sean Connery. I thought this part of the article was rather telling:

“Aware of the unending prevalence of violence against women, few readers will be astonished that such attitudes exist. What now amazes is that an otherwise civilised man could, speaking casually, as if of golf or cigars, air these views so glibly to journalists. The implication is that no particularly controversial points are being made.”

The Girl who played with Fire opens here tomorrow. I’d love to go and see it, but I want to read the book first. Here’s the Guardian’s take on it:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2010/aug/23/girl-played-with-fire

Hi mendelguinness—that was “telling” us what a cad he is and why did he even say that? it was a great article and thank you for quoting that piece–brilliant writing. all the other b-day articles was praising him… but also lets remember that stupid comment he made like he was in the men’s club being manly with the other men with cigars that know how to fully utilize the cigar to maximum benefit…aaaaahhhhh. I don’t want to get going. forget it. but we won’t forget it anymore—this is going to start many people talking girls…it already has.

absolutely watch all the sweedish movies—it is a diff story, and still a great watch!!! that was a great story too—i think back on it and think it was made in black and white—that’s how unhollywood it was. And it was done well. I am glad i get to see these before Dan. I am really hoping this Mikael gets better looking as the movies goo along… not happening!

sinus, pain, again, irratic sleep, loopy meds. no wine–!!! aaahhh.

Thanks for the article, interesting. Have you already seen The Girl who played with Fire? The ‘Fire’ film isn’t yet shown in my country. I’m glad to hear that room of the improvement that is enough for Hollywood version is left. The original is rank too high in the public estimation.

Lisbeth by Eva @ 08/26/2010 at 9:33 am

When I read the book I wondered how Larsson could know how women think and act during certain situations,
and write how Salander goes the mirror to study her skinny body or hates her small boobs, it was clear Eva helped him with that to write it.
————————-

There is yet another twist in this tale: speculation — practically a Swedish parlor game — that Stieg Larsson did not write the books alone. Some say Gabrielsson was a key participant.
A colleague of Larsson’s from the 1970s and 80s, Anders Hellberg, who now works for Sweden’s major daily newspaper, Dagens Nhyeter, described Larsson’s writing as childish.
“His writing was no good, syntax, sentences, spelling,” Hellberg said. “In my view he couldn’t have written it.”
For others, the novels with Larsson’s name on them came as no surprise.
“He was almost a nerd when it came to crime novels,” said Daniel Phool, editor of Expo. “Stieg was a storyteller, he loved to tell stories and he told them very well.”
But did he do it alone? Gabrielsson, a published writer in her own right, defends the man she loved but leaves the door open.
“I cannot see in the books what was originally Stieg’s things and what was originally my things,” she said. “Being together with someone for 30 years, large chunks of it become ours. … He sort of held the pen, but just being able to be an efficient writer doesn’t create any books. You have to be able, to have thoughts, the rest as well.”
We asked Gabrielsson if she was part of those thoughts.
“Yes, that’s how he saw it, yes,” Gabrielsson said.
In another instance of life imitating art, Gabrielsson may have a final card to play.
In the book, a character suddenly dies. The protagonist discovers an unfinished — and highly valuable — book on his laptop.
In real life, reports have emerged that Larsson left at least part of a fourth book on his own laptop — and whispers have circulated that Gabrielsson has it.
Millions of fans may hope so. Gabrielsson said she has not read a fourth book, but she knows what might happen. She will admit that she and Larsson talked about it and specifically what the future might hold for Lisbeth Salander in a fourth book. Could she write it?
“I could probably do it, I am sure I could do it, but it’s not my business, I have no powers,” Gabrielsson said. “I am happy with the life, that’s really what matters for me. I had a good life with that man.”
A man who left millions in suspense … and one woman who may hold the key to what happens next.
————
Larsson’s books leave behind an unlikely heroine whom fans adore. Lisbeth Salander is both victim and savior, fighting for her rights and for justice.
In real life there is another drama here in Sweden, as full of anger and accusations as anything the author might have written. At its heart, a woman who was a very real part of the author’s life. Like Lisbeth Salander, she is also fighting for what she says are her rights.

Eva Gabrielsson met Stieg Larsson when she was just 18. Both were passionate and politically active. They lived together for 32 years, until suddenly he was gone.

“It was a horrible time,” said Gabrielsson. “Even small daily things like making a pot of coffee, you can’t even make a pot of coffee anymore because someone is missing to drink the other half. I was in deep shock.”

I swear LIz does that in all of her apartments, hotel rooms, houses… I think that is a “man-trait”…cuz if Liz was so body conscious as she is portrayed to be… she would be damn concerned about anyone seeing her strip through the windows…or if someone knocked on the door, or if she just didnt’ like her body–why be nekkid all the time? ok. that was a stupid question… I guess I would be if I didn’t have kids or windows… or neighbors, or a sense of self–nekkid. Ya know what? I dont think Liz is nuts, I think Larsson was nuts. And Liz is his manifestation of all his hangups. whoa, read too much Steven king. gotto go!!

and if Dan is as nekkid as Mikael in the books–we should be able to see that tatoo “G” very nicely. BUT—sad to say, he doesn’t have to bare his (@ss) anymore for roles.

you go gurl–I always thought sean had something wrong with him. i tried liking him, i reeally did–especially in the Highlander movies–but he just was tooo manly and ohmygod–did you see The Rock??? wow, i actually felt bad for him. ok. nuff said.

Daniel is Hot @ 08/26/2010 at 10:35 pm

In the Aug. 16 People Magazine it says:

Bond VS Blomkvist
With his Bond days possibly over, Daniel Craig is planning to star in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Let’s compare his most famous roles.

Skill Set:
Bond: Debonair British spy can snuff out global threats without anyone knowing.
Blomkvist: Dogged Swedish journalist can sniff out global thieves and see to it everyone knows.

Love Life:
Bond Girls are always hot, usually dangerous and tend to end up dead.
Blomkvist’s lovers are usually hot-headed and tend to end up disappointed.

Q&A: Daniel Alfredson @ 08/27/2010 at 5:26 am

http://movies.sky.com/qa-daniel-alfredson

The second part of the Swedish Millennium thriller trilogy – The Girl Who Played With Fire – has arrived in cinemas.

We talked to director Daniel Alfredson about the character of cyber-punk Lisbeth, a casting call to Dolph Lundgren and the choice of Daniel Craig for the American remake.

Noomi Rapace reprises the role of Lisbeth as the story gets darker, including elements of child abuse and sex trafficking.

——————————————————————————–

Sky Movies: How did you kick off the film adaptations of the trilogy?

Daniel Alfredson: “We planned all three films at the same time. The casting, the script-writing – all were planned from the beginning.”

SM: “It’s a global phenomenon now but you were privileged to see the manuscript a long way down the line?”

DA: “Yes, I read through the manuscripts for the books at a very early stage with the two scriptwriters. They hadn’t been edited by the publisher and were a copy of Stieg Larsson’s books.”

SM: “What did you think?:

DA: “When I first saw they I thought ‘these are very thick’. I thought they were fantastic. We had two scripts – one for film and one for TV. There’s scenes not in the films and vice versa.”

SM: “How did you reduce the source content to a manageable size?”

Noomi RapaceDA: “I’d worked with the scriptwriter on several things before. I knew them very very well. I’d read the book three times at that point when we started the process. We tried to find the story of Lisbeth really. Tried to stick to that one, the story of Lisbeth that ends up in the third book. Some of the other things we left behind.”

SM: “And the character of Lisbeth?”

DA: “I was very fascinated by the character of Lisbeth Salander. I talked to Niels [Oplev, director of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo] and we tried to nail the character into the story as much as possible. We stuck to the idea of this shy person, who’s vulnerable in the same way that she’s very strong.”

She’s also very efficient, a very complex character. There’s a very important scene at the beginning of The Girl Who Plays With Fire when she meets her old mentor at a home.

We had a discussion that we need to see her smile. There is a little, tiny smile there. From the start we said ‘well she’s not a smiley character’ but, on the other hand, Lisbeth needed that smile because you have to see something else. When she’s wanted for the three murders she won’t be smiling again.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Noomi (Rapace) is a key to the success. To anyone who has read the book she fits very well into our fantasies of Lisbeth. She was cast for the first film and I was quite happy about that.”

SM: “When did the process begin?”

DA: “We were finishing the script for The Girl Who Played With Fire while they were shooting the first film. It was very well organised but we had no idea how successful it was going to be. There was a six week break and then I started on The Girl Who Plays With Fire. I didn’t see the first film until I had finished shooting mine.”

SM: “Both the books and films are quite hardcore, much darker than your normal Hollywood product.”

DA: “I think that’s a part of the Swedish tradition. Not gloom. But Swedes aren’t afraid of telling a dark story. Ingmar Bergman wasn’t afraid of darkness. My brother [Tomas Alfredson] made a film (Let The Right One In) which is also very dark and moody.”

SM: “Are you surprised by the success?”

The Girl Who Played With FireDA: “When we did the films we knew there was some success for the books in France and Italy and Spain. We thought the films would have some success in Scandinavia and maybe Germany because the Germans tend to like Swedish drama. After a while we suddenly became aware of the success.”

SM: “Is it true that Dolph Lundgren was approached?”

DA: “Yes, it’s true. We tried to reach him but he wasn’t really interested. I am quite happy now because we found a guy (Micke Spreitz) who I think was better for the story. A complete unknown.

SM: “What’s your personal feeling about American remakes?”

DA: “Sweden is such a small country – Swedish is spoken by just nine million people – you just have to accept that that is how it is. That’s where the money moves. On the other hand, I’m very proud that we made the first one. Hopefully our version will last.”
Michael Nyqvist as Blomqvist
SM: “What do you think of their casting choice for Lisbeth. Like you, they’ve gone for a relative unknown?”

DA: “I think that’s very clever. Noomi was not really that well known in Sweden. She had been in various small things but I knew she was a good actress.”

SM: “How about the casting of Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist?”

DA: “I think it fits. It could have been worse. He’s a good actor and I’m quite curious. I’m looking forward to seeing it.”

SM: “And David Fincher?”

DA: “I think he’s a great director.”

SM: “What’s the key of the attraction of these books?”

DA: “It must be Lisbeth. We have never seen a character like that before as a heroine in a big movie.”

Dolph Lundgren? as Mikael Blomqvist?? Lundgren has intelligence very much, but I can imagine only Ivan Drago.

I liked to read her twitter though Olivia always didn’t mention Daniel.
Perhaps, Santa Fe was heavenly for Daniel. Mystic, Spectacular views, Margarita…NO PAPS!!! I hope they be able to visit Santa Fe again one of these days.

Olivia wilde: Check out my love letter to Santa Fe. I’ll miss it here! http://wildethings.org/thank-you-santa-fe

Jon Favreau: Goodbye Santa Fe. You’ve been very good to us. Next stop, Universal Studios for Cowboys & Aliens.

DIH!!! thank you–funny! I got one:
conversation banter/topic:
Blomvkist–intellectual stimulation
Bond–wise@ss onliners about gettin’ it on.

or something like that. wow that was a buzz kill. sorry.

anyway… some Quick thoughts from G:
It is soooo Dolph in my mind for that big Sweede in the Fire book.(did you see the movie yet cheeky brit?) He was wrong to decline… he just has to stay with his testosteronie boyz in the stupid nobrainonlymusle movies.

And yeah, there would have to be 2 scripts! Too “adult” for TV, yikes. Even if they infer the violence… but then the kids can go play their Bond games for lesser violence, right?

And who here thinks Larssen gf has NOT been approached to fake the 4th book if she hasn’t really found it???? I would… maybe. and i love Mikaels response about Dan—”it could have been worse” the 2 Lizes have to go at it–that’s it. who do you have money on????????

…are you out watching the movie? Or reading? I was late for work today because i couldn’t put the Fire book down. “ah, yeah, sorry I was late cuz the traffic, i mean, I was, ah, stuck in, ah, bed, and i couldn’ t get out because Freezy was chasing the black kitty and ah, the curtains came down on me and I was screaming for help, but no one was home–unusual,—-and so i just stayed there until i calculated the time it would take me to take a shower with putting my hair up wet, putting makeup on while driving… and yeah, had to stop for gas (last driver didn’t gas up–HATE THAT), anyway that is why i was late for work. yeah, that’s the ticket. and i got a great book that i will let you borrow sometime and see if you don’t come in late!!!” (i love my boss)

sooo is everyone able to watch the Fire movie in their country? DTM–you are going to see it, correct? and DIH–christ, they let anything show in Canada, right?(case in point: Red Green Show???!!!!!!!!!!)

Hi Guinness

“you are home early for a weekend!!!”

Yes, having a quiet one for a change. But I’m saving for next weekend, when I am going away for a girlie one :)

“I do have a question–how many of us –women—walk in our house and strip?”

I do that sometimes *grin* but mostly it’s a case of getting ready for the shower and having forgotten something in another room. Luckily, unless somebody sits in a tree with the binoculars, one cannot see into our house from across the street…

“I swear LIz does that in all of her apartments, hotel rooms, houses… I think that is a “man-trait”…cuz if Liz was so body conscious as she is portrayed to be… she would be damn concerned about anyone seeing her strip through the windows…”

Well spotted ;) You’re right there.

“Ya know what? I dont think Liz is nuts.”

No, I think she’s actually pretty sane (especially in relation to the rest of our society…)

“if Dan is as nekkid as Mikael in the books–we should be able to see that tatoo “G” very nicely.”

HAHAHAHA, it’s actually an ‘M’ ;)

“to DiH

“Love Life:
Bond Girls are always hot, usually dangerous and tend to end up dead.
Blomkvist’s lovers are usually hot-headed and tend to end up disappointed.

Utility:
Bond: High, if you need the world saved, a terrorist eliminated or a shag.
Blomkvist: High, if you need a conspiracy unravelled, a shady exec exposed or a shag.”

So, when it boils down to it, Bond’s and Blomkvists’s utility is high if you need a shag, but in case of Bond you end up dead, while in case of Blomkvist, you end up being disappointed.
What was that about being caught between a rock and a hard place??? *grin*

to ‘Q&A’

thanks for the interview & link!

“SM: “How about the casting of Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist?”

Of course, it couldn’t have been better!!! :)

So Dan’s in LA now? Wonder if we get some pics…

“did you see the movie yet cheeky brit?”

Probably Monday…unless I get my hands on the book, then I finish the book first…

“And who here thinks Larssen gf has NOT been approached to fake the 4th book if she hasn’t really found it????”

I’m sure that has crossed somebody’s mind…

“the 2 Lizes have to go at it–that’s it. who do you have money on????????”

Noomi. She looks tougher, and she had had her fight training already.

“..its actually an “M”…. you just got me right in the toes… you have no idea. or maybe you do ::)

um you didn’t text me about next wkend—boo you, i have my own HUGE party.(its Labor day) so have fun too!!!!! rest up and save up!!!

Exclusive -
JAMES Bond flies the flag – or at least the scarf – for England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
Actor Daniel Craig, 42, became the TWO MILLIONTH person to back the campaign as he took time out from shooting a movie in the US.

A source said: “He’s a passionate Liverpool fan and would love to see the World Cup in England.”

The 007 star is in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for sci-fi film Cowboys And Aliens, about extra-terrestrials landing in a desert town.

His backing came as Fifa inspectors completed a four-day visit this week checking out our stadiums and facilities.

Delegation leader Harold Mayne-Nicholls praised aspects of our bid as “perfect” and said there were no security or transport problems.

Our main competition comes from Russia and the US, as well as joint bids by Holland and Belgium and by Spain and Portugal.

The winner will be announced on December 2.

I guessed Daniel was at least in Santa Fe yesterday. (JJ didn’t permit me to post the link yesterday, how about today…)

Wrapped my last day shooting in Santa Fe! Despite the odd back spasm & being soaking wet for 12 hrs, it was one hell of a fun day at work.

In the 09-10 football season, Daniel might have been disappointed to Liverpool FC. They can’t compete in even CL for this season. Does this campaign become Daniel’s new stimulating? lol

So we get a picture of Daniel now, supporting football/soccer, whatever. It is always about sports with these guys. Oh well, good for him. Yes G, the Tattoo movies are out here, and they show everything here in the big White North as some people call Canada. Have not seen the movies yet but I am rereading the first book again – slowly this time – thinking of Daniel and how he will portray MB. Have a good weekend. Mine started yesterday, and I am tired all ready.

“Sweden is such a small country – Swedish is spoken by just nine million people –

interesting as there are many similarities between Sweden and Czech – landscape, architecture, soft accent, now the same number of citizens, in Czech is less than ten million people.

I talked about a difference of Swedish pronunciation in vowels and consonants that would be problematic for Brits and Americans but just try this link to understand Daniels new accent:

“In the 09-10 football season, Daniel might have been disappointed to Liverpool FC.”

Yes, and it’s not as if the national team is any good (huh!). But it would be great to have the World Cup here! A lot of people would go completely NUTS!

Hehehe, Paul the Octopus is backing England :)

DiH

“It is always about sports with these guys.”

Absolutely! It would be great to watch a Liverpool match with Dan – I so love the new pic!!!

to Fio

thanks for the linky. So Rooney Mara is soon flying out to Sweden – I am so curious as to how they will transform her into Lisbeth.

Hi!!! Thx for posting updates…and that pic of DAN. He is such a “game player” to show his support like that!!! love that personality trait. and imaging you and me with Dan watching the futbull game Mendel!!! (we can call you DIH and we’ll be sure to get lots of pic to send to you!! I will make him wear the leather and the scarf and the jeans and the hat!!!) Anyway—if you have the BIG GAME there—I am soooo sleeping on your sofa. I keep sayin’…

I finished the 2nd book in 5 hours last night. wow. it is great. and tonight i start the 3rd book…I would be pissed if i didnt have it next to my bed already!!!!! did you see the movie yet mendel?
how ’bout now…did you see it….now? go and see it. wait, are you going to see it DIH? We were 10 miles from Cananda today–i thought of you..and Dan being there in a few wks.(I know you are about 4000miles from us…but it was a thought). have an awesome week—get on our knees for Bond, and pray!!!! *grinning*

so if he was in LA, then he was holding the sign for Beckham…where is he? and who is running his schedule? Toronto is coming though….wow, he is in Switzerland for x-mas this year?, and last year NYC. nice. Those reasons alone would make me FLY to the equator.

wow–Sweeden–I keep switching the 2 with hubby and he has gone ballistic–so don’t tell him I did it again Mendel. Thanks for being so generously subtle and not embarrassing me in front of everyone…like I would give a rats-ass. (i would care, a little. maybe. I want everyone to like me. on fridays maybe–when its happy hour!!) And sooo you work at a Bank, Mendel? You? At a bank, Mendel? (did everyone get that?) wow. they let you handle money? cool. or is it that the entire country celebrates its currency. wow. it is me who is uncultured here… taking a holiday for the banks. wtf is that all about? we have holidays for MARTIN LUTHER KING! ok. sorry, this is loaded with noncultured, unworldly-woman sarcasm here… anyway,

That is a good point Fio, but didn’t I read somewhere that Beckham is the one coordinating–wait, have to go read that again. wth? I am sooo behind on work and world news and local news and who is picking up my kid today? damn, i wanted to go tanning.

ok, we better get some more news FIO–thank you for the twittering Jon–he sounds pretty fun–like a big fun kid!!! wow. can’t wait for this movie. and the twittering Partying DJ with a truck (that should be the name of his blog.) speakin’ *or spankin”* of blogs…. this ain’t mine………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. ~caio peoples…. damn the book is gooddddd–you see the movie yet?????????????????????

Keep your fingers crossed – yes, we need new pics (although the last one with the cowboy hat was very cute!)

Hi Guinness

“I keep switching the 2 with hubby and he has gone ballistic”

Here’s a simple trick to never switch them again:
Switzerland = banks, money
Sweden = Ikea, Abba

“And sooo you work at a Bank, Mendel?”

Hahahahaha! Please type in the password now… *grin*

“taking a holiday for the banks. wtf is that all about? we have holidays for MARTIN LUTHER KING!”

LOL!

A bank holiday is basically a public holiday. The banks are shut (this has some historical origin), all non-essential public services are closed, and many other places close as well.

“you see the movie yet?????????????????????”

Noooo :( I may have to wait until next week (but I’m going away, so I can’t really complain…)

Love the banner!!!!!

“Hope they have good paps and tweeters in Sweden!”

No idea what pap culture they have over there, but since they have a Royal Family, there must be plenty of paps!

thanks for the update. but i’m wondering if anyone has seen his girlfriend lately. i thought she would have been at the cast party. anyway, i agree it would be nice to have some more pictures of daniel in LA or maybe toronto. by the way, does anyone know what happened to the thumbs up/thumbs down feature. for some reason, they’re not showing up on my computer.

Wow Guinness, thanks for the banner, Love it!!

Kinda. Also, I wondered nobody mentioned Harrison Ford/Olivia Wilde in wrap party on twitter (post: 114). Oh well, this must have been a one-man show of John Favreau rather than a wrap party!! As for the thumbs up/down, our computer isn’t out of order :)
Remember JJ stopped the thumbs up/down specification once before, it was started again after a while. I’m not sure whether they start again.

I want to see Daniel enjoying himself at the Simpsons ride. lol
http://twitter.com/oliviawilde/status/22685783795

“you’ve soiled your pants for the last time?” Now I know where all the attention deficit disordered kids went to work–designing programs for these sit-down rides!!! (can people who suffer from seizures watch?) That was intense, but I liked the rollar coaster part! thx Fio–I was wondering what the fuss was all about. and if we had any people in LA–we would have them sit in front of that ride for them to show up!!!

Mendel-thanks for the bank explanation—I just had to reset my online account, couldn’t remember this months’ password, so they timed-me-out. funny we brought that up here… never had that happen to me before. Believe in coincindences of the mind. I am a good witch, i swear!! and wow, have a good time where ever you travel—and of course, be safe–wear a raincoat, pack a black t-shirt, go commando, jeans, khaki shorts, flipflops, hair clip, lip gloss, digital camera all in a stylish backpack and you are traveling like a man!!!! At least you won;t have to contend with the hurricane we will be driving in. GREAT. will you be able to still log on and look for Dan pic? I dont think i will be able to…

and as for an oracle—–why don’t you just ask me, I got one right here!!!!!!! want a cookie?

oops-forgot. Speaking of rollar coasters…that is what MY DAN said reading the books where like because the reader can skip some info and still get to the good action parts becasue the thrill goes up and down, up and down.

FYI–IMO, the book Eat Pray Love stunk like a decomposing potato! And i don’t plan on seeing the movie just cuz she is in it. And her movie is just a chick flick. The tatoo movies will, once again, have both genders go to it, just like both genders reading it—and it has James Bond in it for the guys and it has James Bond in it for the girls—and again, to emphasize my point, it has James bond in it FOR THE GIRLS!!!!! So, Dan has some good people giving him advice!!! (I am available Dan, just give me a call…) ~cioa

A friend of mine read Eat Pray Love and saw the movie. Now she wants to know the meaning of her life. I won’t read it or see it as well. I only want to know the meaning of Daniel – that is my purpose in live. And Guinness, if Dan calls you, please tell him I say Hi.

thanks for reminding me that jj had taken off the thumbs up/down feature before. if anyone is interested a friend of mine, who also visits this board, told me why. apparently some fool on an angelina jolie’s thread decided to play games. he/she stole the identities of two of the posters, rigged it so that the comments would disappear. then when people clicked on to see the comment they accessed a virus.

anyway this same friend of mine says that there’s no way that satsuki would have been at the cast party. see, she is convinced that daniel has broken up with his girl. i love her dearly, best friend for most of my life. she honestly believes that no pictures of daniel and satsuki together for a long time means they have broken up. my friend believes everything she reads in the magazine as truth and you should hear her on conspiracy theories.

” he/she stole the identities of two of the posters, rigged it so that the comments would disappear. then when people clicked on to see the comment they accessed a virus. ”

Probably I think that JJ sees this, and bursts out laughing.

Sure DIH—if the Dan Van or the sexcapade pulls up at your abode, wait a few minutes–and if the Van is a rockin’, don’t bother knocking…but don’t come on in either. just wait, friends share.

Are they in Californication—damn, I think of Dan there when that song comes on. And isn’t this the first place for an “apartment”–he seems to be here more than NYC? Good investments… maybe after Cowboys and Aliens premeire…I am not sure if the Death Dream House is going to bring in the trillions, so I predict maybe in 2 years he will have bought a house in californication, eh?

Hi Mendel. I am early, I know, work tonight, stinks, caught up with myself though–and the kids got home ok!!!! ( OH! Fio-thx for the costumes… soooo, Dan is the “elite-cowboy” costume, cuz his handlebars are gone for the other one…wow, Dan’s handlebars–imagine riding those… crap, i just am blown away by that thought-get it? blown? riding his handlebar mustache *bigass grin*, fainting, can’t funcktion, woah, another freudian typo …… Dan is sooooo…………. fell heeelp.

thx for the tweet posts!! Seems the director is in Calif. Did Dan already Wrap and Scat? –love the “TGWTDT” Fio–nice idea. I read that Olivia almost “pooped” a blood vessel–that was what I felt on one of those rides. The mind is a scary thing to activate!!!

And—yes, that was an awesome clip. I think DIH put it succinctly–I felt as if I were watching Dan there, not the blood-curdling-killer of Bond. Such a fantastic actor to pull through both of those emotions…but I guess that is all magic cuz they probly didn’t film the scenes in the order of the movie so that he could move more freely thru the emotions??? I dont know–he is fantfukingtastic anyway. I remember the FEELING i got when i first watched that scene!! It was really a great scene that worked. I wanted him to LOVE MEEEEE. And hold MEEEE in the shower all wet in his wet white shirt clinging to his bicep and tricep and legs and he was nekkid under those clothes, right???and then we wouldn’t be snuggling lonnnng!!!

anyway. cheers girls… and remember Dan said.. “you might die trying, but if you don’t , you might produce enough endorphins to live another 5 years”… Hell, if I evah got wif you—we bof would LIVE TO 150 years old! Dats righ—-T.

and Hi to mendel who is vacationing…lucky byotch. hey–dih, you want to borrow my books so that you can get passed the first one???

great. posting to myself. ohhh mendel–miss you already. but i would be considered to still be posting to myself even if you were here. mmmmmmm—-found some yumnmy shiraz!!! no Dan-ness :(

lara croft tomb raider on fx…watch it tonight ladies :)
you know who, stars in it!

it’s always good to see a film with daniel in it. but what i want is new pictures of him and who ever. he can’t have disappeared completely. i know we’ll probably get some from sweden but i don’t want to wait that long

According to tweets, Daniel was spotted getting off a plane in NY and then later at the BBar restaurant.
Must be taking a short break from filming.

to DtM
Thanks for the info, Wow, at last we caught Daniel. Daniel seems to have gone directly from the airport to the B Bar restaurant.*growling* :)
Anyway, he went back to his ‘the base’ NY in US. Enjoy the weekend, Daniel!

Daniel as Alex was cute though sneaky. I pretend not to see what Daniel talked about Tomb Raider to GQ!(post:149)

She said saw Daniel was in the car on August 17. In South Africa??

Remember Daniel was spotted in South Africa last December. Maybe Daniel look-alike is in South Africa :)

Rooney was spotted that was riding a motorcycle in Stockholm.
—————
4vikings.com: The american Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) is in place in Stockholm to train for the great movie! I´ve heard that… http://fb.me/H8kSXZq2

dd you notice that the people who twittered about daniel in new york did not mention the girl friend. i find that verrry interesting. maybe there is something to that rumor that was on zimbo about the two of them breaking up.

it’s def strange sats is never mentioned in twitter sights or else ..

I heard Earl swooped into New England waters Friday night as a tropical storm with winds. Guinness, DiH, are you OK?
Well, there are new pics of Daniel nowhere, but Rooney’s here. She has been taking motorcycle and martial arts lessons. *ahem* I’ve got to say…Rooney, what a terrible hair style you are?! Uh-oh, sorry, I’ve gone too far…

http://www.rooney-mara.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=121

oh man, she looks like a little boy. the lesbien scenes are gonna be ridiculous!

Daniel is Hot @ 09/04/2010 at 10:43 am

Thanks Fio for asking if I and Guinness are ok. I certainly hope Guinness is. I, on the other hand, live across the country from New England and up to the country to the north – Canada. No Earl my way but it is hitting the East coast of Canada now, or will be soon. Hope everyone is ok. Yes, why are we not seeing Daniel. He is hiding. If he is in NY, maybe he is getting ready to go to Toronto for the reshoots.

reshoots don’t start before end of September. He’s not done with C&A yet, they are still filming in LA..

well according to the book Lisbeth looks like a teenage boy. Noting wrong with that.

I wonder how daniel can stay that long in the us. for month in La then
New york. maybe they did got married? sats is an american and dan can stay as long as needed.

he has a greencard LOL

to DiH
I’m relieved to hear that :) Yeah, I also hope Guinness and everyone are OK.
to noomi
Rooney bind her long hair at the back simply, and seems not to have cut the hair (Liz style) yet.
When Daniel arrives at Sweden, hopefully she will be perfect Lisbeth :)

i doubt there has been any marriage between satsuki and daniel. if there were, the paps would be all over it. a green card allows him to stay in the united states as long as he likes. what i wonder; is he going to apply for US citizenship so he can be duel. it’s pierce brosnan did; he is now hold both irish and US citizenship

to 219
Thanks for the pic. I saw it just now. Yeah, indeed, but I can’t believe this to be a hairstyle of Lisbeth :( Please spend money/time to transform her into Lisbeth!!

is cowboys and aliens now finished or what?

Hi Guinness

had a brilliant holiday, now back and knackered :(

I presume you’re off on Labour Day today and not blown away by storms, right?

“I remember the FEELING i got when i first watched that scene!! It was really a great scene that worked. I wanted him to LOVE MEEEEE. And hold MEEEE in the shower all wet in his wet white shirt clinging to his bicep and tricep and legs and he was nekkid under those clothes, right???and then we wouldn’t be snuggling lonnnng!!!”

Yes, I absolutely love that scene, too! And he was very nekkid under those clothes :)

to DtM

“According to tweets, Daniel was spotted getting off a plane in NY and then later at the BBar restaurant.
Must be taking a short break from filming.”

Thanks for the info! Must be a short break – maybe they don’t need him for some scenes and he was able to get away for a few days…

to Fio

thanks for all those links! I can’t remember if Lisbeth’s hairstyle was described in the book, but I actually like the look of Mara so far – add the piercings and the tattoos, and it could work. More important though is whether she can act or not.
Can’t wait until we get pictures with Dan from the set in Sweden…

HELLO Mendel–hi DIH, and thx Fio!! Missed the storm, traveled far, went to my original hometown-saw old friends-watched “The Other Guys” (other choice was Machete. HUH?), was sick the entire time and didnt get knackered, but family&friends were worth it. AND if Dan was in NYC—i was a half an hour a way–his cell must be outa service or something, cuz he didnt call. boohoo. He could be off to Toronto for those reshoots early? Or maybe he got to stay in his newly acquired apt with his kid? nice. oh, as i was traveling north on the new york thruway—we passed 2 cars a second that were traveling south back into NYC.. so, for 2 hours it was nonstop cars… multiply 60 seconds within 2 hours or something like that… and i actually passed about 7-8 thousand cars on my way home. THAT is insane. And no hurricane symptoms anywhere, thx.

Sooooo–she isnt gonna stunt double? looks good in leather lucky girl she is !!!!!!!!

And friend, Dan is always nekkid underneath–that is such a nice thought! yeee haw ! where is he?

Hi, Mendel. I’ve to admit my images of Lisbeth have been influenced by the movie. On the other hand, I think Rooney might be more faithful to the original. BTW, I googled ‘Rooney’. Gee, Wayne, what the heck?!
Daniel was spotted in NY after that? No one tweeted. He might have been stay indoors for the weekend if he is really in NY. Oh well…So I checked out the Hungarian photo shelter after a long time. Ugh, they added only the OLD pics of Daniel/Heike newly :(
http://www.profimedia.hu/picture/Daniel+Craig/editorial/

Oops, we did a time-lag attack! lol
Hi,Guinness :)

Hi all….Where is Dan? hoping for some good pap pics when he eventually gets to Stockholm. Some of Rooney in this article.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/nojesbladet/klick/article7737886.ab

hi Fio—damn girl, you have a good shovel (for digging). I dont recall these pics in my head from delusionally dedica ted. i still would have loved him then–i think i did, that was 2001….AFTER Ice House? (that was my first time with him). he looks knacker’d, schnaggered, and sesxy-wexy. Hey, we all have had those times, RIGHT? ok. then. stop judging. righty-oh!

now he is on the “straight-and-narrowed” road with The Mitch caravan. (????) (I watched Will Farrell movie–it makes one crazy talk)

Daniel is Hot @ 09/07/2010 at 12:24 pm

Guninness and hi Mendel: Aren’t we all nekkid underneath our clothes? But the thougth of Dan under his clothes is a better thought than other people, right? So you were in the same time zone as Dan, good for you. How come he didn’t call you? He did not call me either! Remember his new apt is a one bedroom apt, so he was not having his kid visiting. Does not seem to be a kind of apt Dan would have when he has all his family visiting??

@Fio:
“Gee, Wayne, what the heck?!
Daniel was spotted in NY after that? No one tweeted. He might have been stay indoors for the weekend if he is really in NY.”

What the h*ll are you talking about here? I didn’t see any comment previously on here from “Wayne” saying Daniel was spotted in NY since tweeter saw him at BBar! Are you secretly communicating with someone here? In code?

Hi Guinness

“was sick the entire time and didnt get knackered, but family&friends were worth it”

Awww, are you feeling any better?

“Dan was in NYC—i was a half an hour a way–his cell must be outa service or something, cuz he didnt call. boohoo.”

LOL

“looks good in leather lucky girl she is !!!!!!!!”

Very lucky girl :)

“Dan is always nekkid underneath–that is such a nice thought!”

Yes, the thought of nekkid Dan…getting a bit hot in here now…

” he looks knacker’d, schnaggered, and sesxy-wexy. Hey, we all have had those times, RIGHT?”

Right! However, he’s far more sexy-wexy now. Got more pwoarrrr-factor!

to Fio

“BTW, I googled ‘Rooney’. Gee, Wayne, what the heck?!”

LOL! Most of us in the UK would think of Wayne Rooney first when hearing the name Rooney – and yes, Gee Wayne indeed! Right now he’s been all over the papers for cheating (again) on his wife. Even his goal in the match against Switzerland tonight can’t redeem him in the eyes of the rather disgusted public…

to DiH

“How come he didn’t call you? He did not call me either!”

Me neither! But then I am a bit out of his range at the moment…

Oh, and there is a new Rooney (Mara, not Wayne, lol) thread here:

http://justjared.buzznet.com/2010/09/07/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo-girl/#comments

I assume you are not a soccer fan, eh???

i was going to ask poster 231 the same question.

to DtM
Thanks for the link. Wow, she looks nice with a punk style. And I’m sure good paps are in Sweden, yey!

to 232
Aw, I meant to say ‘Wayne Rooney’.
“Are you secretly communicating with someone here? In code?”
‘secretly communicating’ ‘In code’
LOL! I like your guess because I really miss Daniel Bond.

to Mendel
Congrats on the victory of Three Lions! Certainly, he seems to be up against a wall, but NI*E doesn’t desert him. A NI*E statement said: “This is a private matter for Wayne and his family and we have no further comment to make at this time. We have worked with Wayne for seven years and he continues to be a NI*E athlete.” Well that’s a good point…NI*E – slogan “Just Do It!” Yeah, Rooney jiut did it! lol BTW…maybe Daniel will be proud of Gerrard :)

Sorry typo. I meant ‘just’, not ‘jiut’.

Watching eight puppeteers control an animatronic alien in the rain.

Ah, an animatronic alien, awesome! Don’t they need real ‘fresh-and-blood’ actors anymore for studio works?

Hey! I saw more posts on this thread as oppposed to the new Mara thread in the Daniel Craig section of jj. Huh?
awwww, thanks…I am NOT feeling beh-errr.(Monty Python–”I got beh-ter). anyway, bad pollen season here—everyone has visible, yellow dust on their cars–it is crazy. and when my loopy meds don’t work, it gets into an “upper-respiratory infection” so now I am taking antibiotics and pain meds…my one girl has nasty allergic reactions to pollen, etc, my other girl doesn’t get sick ever. strange genetics. My brother has had the scraping surgery—didnt work, he looks like a racoon all year ’round. soooo–not my blog, surry. but thanks for mentioning it, my friend.

oh! right… Lisbeth. And Dan. And Jon seems like he is loads of fun!!! For a while. He seems too much in his own presence…hhhmmm. Tom Jones. that’s all I gotta say.

FiO—-you are marvelous… thank you for your DD. And Mendel—did you see the 2nd movie yet? did you read the 2nd book? did you see the first movie yet? check to see if those are YOUR feet. let me know, k?

to Fio

“NI*E – slogan “Just Do It!” Yeah, Rooney jiut did it! lol”

LOL!

to Guinness

“I am NOT feeling beh-errr.(Monty Python–”I got beh-ter). anyway, bad pollen season here”

Awww, that stinks! Shouldn’t the pollen season be over soon?

“And Mendel—did you see the 2nd movie yet? did you read the 2nd book? did you see the first movie yet? check to see if those are YOUR feet.”

Yes, my feet ;)
No, I still haven’t got the 2nd book, and haven’t made it to the cinema yet either. But I will, I will, I will…

ya better hurry….tomorrow starts your weekend, si? :)

pollen season is always here wiseaass. I live next to farmers who grow and cut something every other day…and if that doesnt’ happen…we have dandilions in the spring that flutter crap…then flowers in the summer and fresh cut grass, and then golden rod–that is wild weeds that grew voraciously this season that i followed down to pennsylvania, then back up here…. and this week the apples will start to be picked and that stirs up all the pollen that sat on them along with the grass the farmers just cut and the corn that needs to be harvested for the cows in the winter…………so NO, it is NOT over. And YES, I love it here. ffflllllllllllliiiipit FECK off cup!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DpMbhdIwrw

love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.insidesocal.com/outinhollywood/oscar4.jpg
anderson cooper is in new york, maybe hooking up with daniel?

both are delish—I would be inclined to get them on my opposing team—hopefully not on the same team….but its fine with me if they are, but i would like them to be on the opposite team–just in case i ever get the chance to hook up with either of them. seperately, of course. wellll, maybe…hey, i don’t share well… I am not a Blomvkist!!!

um, yeah. and DON’ T START!!

i am bored, where are you peeps?

if he is in the business then he should know…yes?

# kreshjun @marisa83 I’m sorry but that was proven to be false. A rumor. Daniel Craig is not gay. I think it actually makes your chances better about 4 hours ago via TweetDeck in reply to marisa83

don’t be stupid. anderson is a journalist. it looks like two of them are enjoying a social conversation. it is possible for two men to sit and talk to each other with out it being more than that. in any case, anderson is already in a committed relationship.

agree with all you’ve said.

You had posted that pic before, so do you like that pic so much?
I see, good for you! LOL
And you are ALWAYS late, Daniel is NOT in NY.

to guinness @ 09/11/2010 at 6:48 am

I’m in a new thread. Aren’t you there, too? xD

Dontgetmewrong @ 06/24/2011 at 7:36 pm

The real reason they have to have a remake is that most Americans are too lazy to read sub titles. Though why they would go to the expense of the original location I don’t know! as the geographic knowledge of there new audience would be so Hollywood-centric that it would make pigeons dizzy enough to fall off their statue.
