Rooney Mara: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Rooney Mara has won the lead role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

Sony announced in a press release today that the actress, who’s the younger sister of Kate Mara, will play Lisbeth Salander and star opposite Daniel Craig in the American adaptation of the film series. Shooting begins next month in Sweden!

Rooney appeared in Youth in Revolt and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street – she’ll also hit the screen this fall in The Social Network.

Director David Fincher went on a hunt all through Hollywood to find the perfect girl for the role, considering high profile actresses but ended up choosing Rooney, who he’d worked with on The Social Network!

Congrats, Rooney!!

    Hi Guinness

“lets remember that stupid comment he made like he was in the men’s club being manly with the other men with cigars that know how to fully utilize the cigar to maximum benefit…aaaaahhhhh.”

LOL! Still, his attitude towards women is Sean Connery’s dark side, and I don’t think it should be swept under the carpet, no matter how much he is otherwise admired.

“I am really hoping this Mikael gets better looking as the movies goo along… not happening!”

No, but then we get Dan, and Mikael will get really good looking *grin* and hopefully take his shirt off a lot :)

“sinus, pain, again, irratic sleep, loopy meds. no wine–!!! aaahhh”

Ugh, sounds nasty. Hope it’ll get better soon!

No, it’ll open today (well, it is just after midnight here). I would like to read the book first, but I might be very tempted…

    to ‘Lisbeth by Eva’

thanks for the link. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eva helped Larsson more than she wants to admit. I wonder if she will finish the fourth book though.
It just shows how important it is to make a will. Nobody wants to be morbid, but if you do have anything worth passing on, better make sure the right person gets it.

thanks for this ‘classic’! I hadn’t read it before, so it was new to me.

Wonder if the Bond writers will take notes of this real-life spy mystery death:

HI! nice copy. I dont’ mind reading you twice!!! and you are home early for a weekend!!! and if she did help write it the books, she will go bonkers NOT to be able to finish or continue it. I do have a question–how many of us –women—walk in our house and strip? I swear LIz does that in all of her apartments, hotel rooms, houses… I think that is a “man-trait”…cuz if Liz was so body conscious as she is portrayed to be… she would be damn concerned about anyone seeing her strip through the windows…or if someone knocked on the door, or if she just didnt’ like her body–why be nekkid all the time? ok. that was a stupid question… I guess I would be if I didn’t have kids or windows… or neighbors, or a sense of self–nekkid. Ya know what? I dont think Liz is nuts, I think Larsson was nuts. And Liz is his manifestation of all his hangups. whoa, read too much Steven king. gotto go!!

and if Dan is as nekkid as Mikael in the books–we should be able to see that tatoo “G” very nicely. BUT—sad to say, he doesn’t have to bare his (@ss) anymore for roles.

you go gurl–I always thought sean had something wrong with him. i tried liking him, i reeally did–especially in the Highlander movies–but he just was tooo manly and ohmygod–did you see The Rock??? wow, i actually felt bad for him. ok. nuff said.

~night, G go see the movie–and if you don’t, I will keep asking you. and stop copying your posts…what is THAT all about?? ::)))

    Daniel is Hot Says:

In the Aug. 16 People Magazine it says:

    Bond VS Blomkvist
With his Bond days possibly over, Daniel Craig is planning to star in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Let’s compare his most famous roles.

    Skill Set:
Bond: Debonair British spy can snuff out global threats without anyone knowing.
Blomkvist: Dogged Swedish journalist can sniff out global thieves and see to it everyone knows.

    Love Life:
Bond Girls are always hot, usually dangerous and tend to end up dead.
Blomkvist’s lovers are usually hot-headed and tend to end up disappointed.

    Cool Friend:
Bond: Q, the gentlemanly (if amusingly quirky) gadget guru at MI6.
Blomkvist: Lisbeth Salander, the unladylike (and scarily quirky) hacker at Milton Security.

    Utility:
Bond: High, if you need the world saved, a terrorist eliminated or a shag.
Blomkvist: High, if you need a conspiracy unravelled, a shady exec exposed or a shag.

    ——————————————————————————————–

I disagree with Bond days being possibly over. Bond will be back!

    Q&A: Daniel Alfredson Says:

    http://movies.sky.com/qa-daniel-alfredson

The second part of the Swedish Millennium thriller trilogy – The Girl Who Played With Fire – has arrived in cinemas.

We talked to director Daniel Alfredson about the character of cyber-punk Lisbeth, a casting call to Dolph Lundgren and the choice of Daniel Craig for the American remake.

Noomi Rapace reprises the role of Lisbeth as the story gets darker, including elements of child abuse and sex trafficking.

    ——————————————————————————–

Sky Movies: How did you kick off the film adaptations of the trilogy?

Daniel Alfredson: “We planned all three films at the same time. The casting, the script-writing – all were planned from the beginning.”

SM: “It’s a global phenomenon now but you were privileged to see the manuscript a long way down the line?”

DA: “Yes, I read through the manuscripts for the books at a very early stage with the two scriptwriters. They hadn’t been edited by the publisher and were a copy of Stieg Larsson’s books.”

    SM: “What did you think?:

DA: “When I first saw they I thought ‘these are very thick’. I thought they were fantastic. We had two scripts – one for film and one for TV. There’s scenes not in the films and vice versa.”

SM: “How did you reduce the source content to a manageable size?”

Noomi RapaceDA: “I’d worked with the scriptwriter on several things before. I knew them very very well. I’d read the book three times at that point when we started the process. We tried to find the story of Lisbeth really. Tried to stick to that one, the story of Lisbeth that ends up in the third book. Some of the other things we left behind.”

SM: “And the character of Lisbeth?”

DA: “I was very fascinated by the character of Lisbeth Salander. I talked to Niels [Oplev, director of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo] and we tried to nail the character into the story as much as possible. We stuck to the idea of this shy person, who’s vulnerable in the same way that she’s very strong.”

She’s also very efficient, a very complex character. There’s a very important scene at the beginning of The Girl Who Plays With Fire when she meets her old mentor at a home.

We had a discussion that we need to see her smile. There is a little, tiny smile there. From the start we said ‘well she’s not a smiley character’ but, on the other hand, Lisbeth needed that smile because you have to see something else. When she’s wanted for the three murders she won’t be smiling again.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Noomi (Rapace) is a key to the success. To anyone who has read the book she fits very well into our fantasies of Lisbeth. She was cast for the first film and I was quite happy about that.”

SM: “When did the process begin?”

DA: “We were finishing the script for The Girl Who Played With Fire while they were shooting the first film. It was very well organised but we had no idea how successful it was going to be. There was a six week break and then I started on The Girl Who Plays With Fire. I didn’t see the first film until I had finished shooting mine.”

SM: “Both the books and films are quite hardcore, much darker than your normal Hollywood product.”

DA: “I think that’s a part of the Swedish tradition. Not gloom. But Swedes aren’t afraid of telling a dark story. Ingmar Bergman wasn’t afraid of darkness. My brother [Tomas Alfredson] made a film (Let The Right One In) which is also very dark and moody.”

SM: “Are you surprised by the success?”

The Girl Who Played With FireDA: “When we did the films we knew there was some success for the books in France and Italy and Spain. We thought the films would have some success in Scandinavia and maybe Germany because the Germans tend to like Swedish drama. After a while we suddenly became aware of the success.”

SM: “Is it true that Dolph Lundgren was approached?”

DA: “Yes, it’s true. We tried to reach him but he wasn’t really interested. I am quite happy now because we found a guy (Micke Spreitz) who I think was better for the story. A complete unknown.

SM: “What’s your personal feeling about American remakes?”

DA: “Sweden is such a small country – Swedish is spoken by just nine million people – you just have to accept that that is how it is. That’s where the money moves. On the other hand, I’m very proud that we made the first one. Hopefully our version will last.”
    Michael Nyqvist as Blomqvist
SM: “What do you think of their casting choice for Lisbeth. Like you, they’ve gone for a relative unknown?”

DA: “I think that’s very clever. Noomi was not really that well known in Sweden. She had been in various small things but I knew she was a good actress.”

SM: “How about the casting of Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist?”

DA: “I think it fits. It could have been worse. He’s a good actor and I’m quite curious. I’m looking forward to seeing it.”

    SM: “And David Fincher?”

    DA: “I think he’s a great director.”

SM: “What’s the key of the attraction of these books?”

DA: “It must be Lisbeth. We have never seen a character like that before as a heroine in a big movie.”

or something like that. wow that was a buzz kill. sorry.

anyway… some Quick thoughts from G:
It is soooo Dolph in my mind for that big Sweede in the Fire book.(did you see the movie yet cheeky brit?) He was wrong to decline… he just has to stay with his testosteronie boyz in the stupid nobrainonlymusle movies.

And yeah, there would have to be 2 scripts! Too “adult” for TV, yikes. Even if they infer the violence… but then the kids can go play their Bond games for lesser violence, right?

And who here thinks Larssen gf has NOT been approached to fake the 4th book if she hasn’t really found it???? I would… maybe. and i love Mikaels response about Dan—”it could have been worse” the 2 Lizes have to go at it–that’s it. who do you have money on????????

    guinness Says:

…are you out watching the movie? Or reading? I was late for work today because i couldn’t put the Fire book down. “ah, yeah, sorry I was late cuz the traffic, i mean, I was, ah, stuck in, ah, bed, and i couldn’ t get out because Freezy was chasing the black kitty and ah, the curtains came down on me and I was screaming for help, but no one was home–unusual,—-and so i just stayed there until i calculated the time it would take me to take a shower with putting my hair up wet, putting makeup on while driving… and yeah, had to stop for gas (last driver didn’t gas up–HATE THAT), anyway that is why i was late for work. yeah, that’s the ticket. and i got a great book that i will let you borrow sometime and see if you don’t come in late!!!” (i love my boss)

sooo is everyone able to watch the Fire movie in their country? DTM–you are going to see it, correct? and DIH–christ, they let anything show in Canada, right?(case in point: Red Green Show???!!!!!!!!!!)

    Hi Guinness

“you are home early for a weekend!!!”

Yes, having a quiet one for a change. But I’m saving for next weekend, when I am going away for a girlie one :)

“I do have a question–how many of us –women—walk in our house and strip?”

I do that sometimes *grin* but mostly it’s a case of getting ready for the shower and having forgotten something in another room. Luckily, unless somebody sits in a tree with the binoculars, one cannot see into our house from across the street…

“I swear LIz does that in all of her apartments, hotel rooms, houses… I think that is a “man-trait”…cuz if Liz was so body conscious as she is portrayed to be… she would be damn concerned about anyone seeing her strip through the windows…”

Well spotted ;) You’re right there.

“Ya know what? I dont think Liz is nuts.”

No, I think she’s actually pretty sane (especially in relation to the rest of our society…)

“if Dan is as nekkid as Mikael in the books–we should be able to see that tatoo “G” very nicely.”

    HAHAHAHA, it’s actually an ‘M’ ;)

    “to DiH

    “Love Life:

Blomkvist: High, if you need a conspiracy unravelled, a shady exec exposed or a shag.”

So, when it boils down to it, Bond’s and Blomkvists’s utility is high if you need a shag, but in case of Bond you end up dead, while in case of Blomkvist, you end up being disappointed.
What was that about being caught between a rock and a hard place??? *grin*

    Published: Today

    Exclusive -
JAMES Bond flies the flag – or at least the scarf – for England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
Actor Daniel Craig, 42, became the TWO MILLIONTH person to back the campaign as he took time out from shooting a movie in the US.

A source said: “He’s a passionate Liverpool fan and would love to see the World Cup in England.”

The 007 star is in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for sci-fi film Cowboys And Aliens, about extra-terrestrials landing in a desert town.

His backing came as Fifa inspectors completed a four-day visit this week checking out our stadiums and facilities.

Delegation leader Harold Mayne-Nicholls praised aspects of our bid as “perfect” and said there were no security or transport problems.

Our main competition comes from Russia and the US, as well as joint bids by Holland and Belgium and by Spain and Portugal.

The winner will be announced on December 2.
