LeBron James Covers 'GQ' September 2010

LeBron James playfully shows off the big guns on the September 2010 cover of GQ magazine, on stands next Tuesday (August 24).

Here’s what the 25-year-old basketball superstar had to share with the mag:

On Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert: “I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’ Me and my family have seen the character of that man.”

On imagining himself playing for the Cavaliers again one day: “If there was an opportunity for me to return and those fans welcome me back, that’d be a great story.… Maybe the ones burning my jersey were never LeBron fans anyway.”

On how growing up helped him learn about facing adversity and staying humble: “That’s what keeps me humble, because I know my background, know what my mother went through. I never get too high on my stardom or what I can do. My mom always says, and my friends say, ‘You’re just a very low-maintenance guy.’”

FYI: Lebron is wearing a Ralph Lauren Purple Label made-to-measure suit, shirt and Purple Label tie.

The only reason Cleveland fans are mad with Lebron is the WAY he chose to announce to ESPN his move to Miami. He could have given the fans and Dan Gilbert the heads up. Cleveland could have gone after another player. But no, selfish Lebron did it his way. As we do in Cleveland, we move on. Thanks Lebon for the good years in Cleveland, best of luck in Miami.

Why can’t he say – “I don’t think he ever cared about me” – and not refer to himself in the 3rd person? The guy thinks way too much of himself, way, way too much.

I read about all these basketball stars and I just think back when Michael Jordan was in the NBA. Jordan showed off by taking flight, can these guys really do that today, ? not even close. Nobody ever burned Jordan’s #23 ever.

    Rosie Says:

This guy’s nothing but a traitor, as far as I’m concerned!

    Sky Says:

When will he learn…why not take the high road in the fued with Dan Gilbert? Is he just held bent on being the most hated player in the NBA and he doesn’t even have a ring. I have never wished failure on someone but this super team is not going to get him a ring. The super team is this cowards way out. I’m no Cleveland fan but I sure hope they win before he does.

Michael Jordan does the 3rd person often. But he’s Michael Jordan.
    Lebron James isn’t Michael Jordan.

I kept rereading his comments to make sure that I wasn’t misreading anything. He does refer to himself in the third person. Always a douchey move. These people think that the talent their given is a divine right. Suck it, LEBRON!

he is one of the most over hyped guys in sports, he loves himself too much, and he has not done anything to deserve that ego, he has no personality, what a fraud,, where is kobe and others, who deserves all of the publicity but refuse to fame who*re, like this dumb guy?.

    lauren Says:

i think when he is referring to himself as in third person, its to emphasize himself as a person, as opposed to a just a moneymaker, basketball player etc.

I don’t hate the guy but low maintanence people don’t have a Starbucks, Casino, and ATM machine in their house/castle.
