'The Big C': Showtime's Biggest Debut in 8 Years!

Showtime’s new series The Big C has scored the biggest original series debut for the network in eight years!

The comedy, starring Laura Linney and Oliver Platt, was seen by 1.154 million viewers during its 10:30pm broadcast on Monday (August 16). Odyssey 5, which premiered back in June 2002, was viewed by 1.155 million people.

The pilot episode, which also featured special guest star Gabourey Sidibe, was released for online sampling two weeks ago and has since garnered over 1.6 million views. Looks like this one’s going to be a hit!

The sixth season premiere of Weeds, which also aired on Monday, broke records, delivering the series’ best night ever in viewers with more than 1.9 million people.

Sounds like a good show, wonder if it will be in Sydney

Odyssey 5 proves so called big openings do not always equal long term success. The B C was not very good. I cant wait for Boardwalk Empire. That show looks great.

Of course it’s a ‘big’ debut.

The Big C was the best pilot aired in years. A real story line with no gimmicks with a script that can stand up to its fantastic actress. I hope the second episode is as good as the first.

it’s not like it had competition… all the good shows a currently off the air, aren’t they??

Laura Linney is great in practically everything..this was no exception.

I enjoyed first episode. Linney’s character is quick, witty and likable.
Also enjoy the casting …from the smart alec kid playing her son (anyone catch him screaming like a girl) to her homeless brother and the actress from precious ..Gabby whats-her-name.

I am always happy to see actor Oliver Platt. He was great in SHOWTIME’s short-lived yet critcally acclaimed HUFF with Hank Azaira…which deserves to be back on the air.

Should be interesting to see how the show plays out. Showtime continues to amaze with innovative shows (TUDORS, NURSE JACKIE, etc) and great actors. If I were an actor this is where I’d try to get work…not MOVIES where the old farts who make decisions go for young teens with no body hair ( you know where) big boobs and lots of surgery.
