Wyclef Jean: Out From Haiti's Presidential Race

Wyclef Jean‘s bid for Haiti’s presidency officially ended as Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council disqualified the musician from running in this year’s election.

The 40-year-old former Fugees frontman officially announced that he was running for the position in early August to help the earthquake ravaged country.

“It is with a heavy heart that I tell you today that the board of elections in Haiti has disqualified me from my run for the presidency of the country,” Wyclef said in a statement. “Though I disagree with the ruling, I respectfully accept the committee’s final decision, and I urge my supporters to do the same.”

Although the council hasn’t disclosed the reasons for the disqualification, it is speculated that it may be related to the requirement that a candidate must live in Haiti for the past 5 years.

I’m sorry but his bid for presidency always seemed suspicious for me. But I hope he can continue to help uplift haiti and contribute in other ways.

Come on, he was in the Fugees. What other qualifications does he need to lead a poor, devastated country?

yeah, just like Arnold thought he could change California (made it worse). When will these celebrities stop thinking they can fix the world?

He’s a crook, that stole money from his own charity for personal stuff, like for his music studio. Imagine the billions he would siphon from foreign aid to Haiti if he was their president.

Thank God!!! Either he was trying to keep some of that aid money for himself or it was a PR Stint or BOTH!

Thank goodness. Celebrities with no qualifications or knowledge of economics/health/policies etc. should not run for president of countries they don’t even live in anymore.

Good especially since some people said he can’t speak formal Creole or French. His CD is about to drop in October and guess what? Lauryn Hill is performing and recording again. I smell some kind of Fugees reunion/performance/whatever brewing. Maybe it’s even on the 1st anniversary of the earthquake to show that he’s not bitter. This was all a PR stunt.

With a “heavy heart” he announces this? What? How about checking the country’s Constitution first before you get the poor people of Haiti all riled up dingbat. How could he think he would be able to just ignore the Constitution of the country? And besides, he should pay his IRS taxes. He ows like 5 million to the US. If we hard working people can pay taxes, so can this crook. Good for Haiti. This is good news!
