Fantasia on Overdose: I Knew Exactly What I Was Doing

Fantasia has opened up about her overdose earlier this month…and she says that the incident was no accident.

“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” the 26-year-old singer told VH1 (via People). “At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that s—.”

A new Behind The Music featuring Fantasia will air this Tuesday (August 24) at 9/8c – the same day that her new album, Back to Me, comes out.

“I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace,” Fantasia continued. “I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.”

What a sad and selfish thing to do. No matter how bad life may be, there is no excuse for taking pills to escape it because all you do is cause hurt for your family. Besides, what a great legacy or her child. Sad and selfish. And yes, come on all you haters who think I’m being insensitive but was Fantasia thinking about her CHILD when she decided to take her own life? Seriously, think about it.

I wish her well, however, it’s dangerous for her to talk so positively about the attempt saying things like ” I wanted to go to sleep and be at peace”, “I wanted out” and “I wanted it to be over with”. This gives the impression that suicide can provide some relief and is an acceptable solution. Hope she can overcome this fully.

She’s not condoning suicide! She is speaking about her individual situation. You ppl are the reason why these celebrities lose their minds.. They can’t just entertain us. They have to divulge all their business so, you, the public will sustain their lifestyle.. It’s a sick and twisted business for those who don’t have the right support system.. I wish her well.. And hope for some laws to take place where the media has to take some culpability for the miasappropriation of untruths.. I feel for her! God bless! They are just like us.. Just with a lot more money and problems… But, isn’t that what you ppl love.. Disgusting!!

I’m gonna give my opinion, it’s personal, and maybe i’m wrong, but I don’t think so…

The person that I used to love more than anything on earth commited a suicide 2 years ago.
It was his birthday yesterday, and I’m still suffering a lot.

So, looking at someone trying to suicide and singing 2 weekds after, and looking like everything is fine, and giving a message like : suicide is not a big deal, you can survive to it, and you can persuade a man to take you back…

Even if it’s not what she thinks, this is the message that young people, or even older people can get, believe me.

I think that even if she really feel better, you got to play it discreet and subtile for few weeks, and maybe more.

I don’t know her music, but it doesn’t give me the envy to listen to it….

Sorry for my english, I’m french, so I’m doing the best I can.

So it’s my fault she had to sell her attempted suicide story so she could stay living in her mansion? Nobody is holding her against her will, its her choice to sell it and nobody elses. This business is more about what part of yourself you will sell for money.

PS there are more than enough celebrities who make a substantial living and lead respectable lives out of the spotlight (Scarlett Johansen, Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman, Kate Winslet, Tom Hanks, etc etc.). I’ve never heard any of them sell their personal life for success. Owen Wilson has never spoke about his suicide because it’s nobody’s business but his and his family’s. Fantasia’s is to sell albums. I don’t feel sorry for her. End of story.

It’s an emotional topic so tempers run high here. I hope she gets the help she needs because it’s obvious she does need it and I hope that she and her kid have some good years ahead.

Suicidal depression is a serious thing. A mental illness. Stop with the ‘selfish’ remarks, because it doesn’t help. I hope she’s getting the right help for it.

She did it all for her reality show the day she got out of the hospital she was photograph in a park with Antwaun Cook and her TV crew filming it them taking. It rumored that this whole thing is going play out In the next 2 seasons of her reality show. If you just tried to kill yourself the last thing you do after your relists from the hospital is go to a park and meet up with the man that so called lied you about being married and caused a situation the put you under enough presser to make you wont to end it all and film it for your show. If Fantasia` wants to be with him fine if what to take to him also find but why did she not do if in privet without her camera crew filming it.

Sickening to think someone would do this for the purpose of promoting a reality show. I’ll leave it at that.

Isn’t she the same person who went back to filming her reality show with her MARRIED boyfriend the day after she got out of the hospital?

Hmmmmm. I’m not one to put it pass anyone to get attention or to deflect bad press with an ‘attempt’ at suicide. Sure she knew what she was doing alright, but apparently it didn’t seem to have a profound effect on her life. It’s back to business as usual, oh, except for the overwhelming sympathy she’s getting now. Pay attention to what people DO , not just what they’re saying.

instead of criticizing her, someone should HELP her with her depression. she will try it again because she’s talking about death as though it’s lovely… not something horrible.

    bar jolie gaga Says:

Those of you who say it is selfish, have never known someone who is suffering. In a way, selfish are the drug addicts who continue to bring people along with their suffering instead of ending it, to be honest. Depression is a brutal thing. To think that life is not living is something no one can comprehend. I respect her courage and honesty and I pray she gets better. Instead of attacking, why not wish her well? Those of you criticizing better hope no one you love ever hits this rock bottom. Hang in there Fantasia!

fantasia life is hard, people are cruel and some times we make mistakes and bring things on ourselves, steer clear from those who wish to hurt you, learn from this, trust god and move on. you have a beautiful talent that can’t be taken away from you. god bless you

Unfortunately I have been there so when she’s filming a reality show the next day and casually chatting about it 2 weeks later, I find it belittles what I and so many other people went through. I hate to imagine someone would do this for publicity but to be honest I don’t believe her and I find it personally offensive

  25. 25
    Well, Says:

@rhymes: it was positive for her. when you attempt suicide, this is your solution the the biggest problem ever. You think you are doing everyone involved a favour, inc. your self. Therapy, support and prayers showw you the better answer
