Liam Neeson Replaces Mel Gibson in 'Hangover 2'

Liam Neeson has taken over Mel Gibson‘s appearance in The Hangover 2 after the cast and crew complained about his cameo.

Liam was invited by his A-Team co-star Bradley Cooper, who will be in the Hangover sequel, to step in.

“I just got a call to do a one day shoot on Hangover 2 as a tattooist in Thailand, and that’s all I know about it,” Liam told Variety.

“I just laughed my leg off when I saw The Hangover. I was shooting in Berlin earlier this year and rented it on the hotel TV,” he added.

  • lokju

i like liam n. but mel gibson is the better actor…maybe he is tooo good for this movie!!! ok he is in trouble but thats not the point i mean he is the same actor with the very good skills…im still a huge fan and dont understand this decision… mel you are the best…dont belive what oksana money hunter say think or whatever!!!!

  • Elisilla

Good!!! Liam Neeson is an amazing actor!!!! :)

  • sky

wow, what a bunch of bs. I didn’t like the first movie and won’t be watching this one. Everyone deserves a second chance and it’s clear they have already convicted this guy with hearing the facts.

  • Home of the Red Sox

This is good news! I like Liam Neeson he is a great actor and this is waaaaaaaay better casting than Mel

  • N.

Awesome news. And I can’t believe anyone thinks Mel is a better actor than Liam Neeson. Interesting. The first Hangover was bizarre but hilarious. And huge Liam Neeson as a tattoo artist, wouldn’t have seen it coming but that will probably be fantastic.

  • LOL

@lokju: You are delusional! “tooo good for this movie!!!” you make me want to puke!

  • Pierce

@sky: Second chances were already given to Mel after his first drunken tirade. He obviously didn’t learn his lesson after his DUI so why should we give him a third chance? Also it is probably best you didn’t watch the first movie or the new one…based on what you posted the movies contents are probably above your education level so you probably wouldn’t understand it anyway.

  • lokju

mel gibson is the better actor watch for example braveheart, the patriot….you are not objective…nobody can say he is not good…ok hangover is a funny movie but its not mels genre he is a serious actor not an actor for a little cameo……………….

  • N.

I’ve seen Mel Gibson in plenty of movies, lokju, and if you bothered to read what everyone said – nobody said he’s not a good actor. I simply disagree that he’s any better than Liam Neeson. Watch Shindler’s List or Taken, Liam is a wonderful actor.

And, what many people do have a problem with him about is him making racist and sexist comments and behaving seriously inappropriately on more than one occasion. (And those are just the ones we’ve heard about, imagine how many we probably haven’t heard about!) Eventually a person has to run out of “second chances” you know.

  • Dan

Awesome replacement, Liam Neeson is FANTASTIC.

And I’m glad Mel Gibson was declined by some crew members, he’s been off the spotlight for quite some time and it would’ve turned people off of the film. Yes, he might deserve another chance, but he burned bridges and his positive career became rather negative. It’s not one person who complained about him, it was several who didn’t like the concept of working with him… for a small cameo.

  • Nothing Hill

    @N.: Well said!

  • Cherie

Funny how they were ok with a convicted rapist being in the first movie.

But, Mel will get his comeback. Happens all the time in Hollywood. Roman Polanski and Woody Allen are just two example’s of going through major scandals, much worse than Mel’s, and coming out just fine on the other side. Time is what it will take.

  • rhonda

Just Jared why didn’t you complete the story!

Liam and Mel have the same agent, the agent said Liam will join the cast as soon as the background checks on cast and crew are completed. ZING!

  • Dan

@Cherie: Wrong. The first one was hilarious, but no one had a choice of actors. Due to its huge success, the sequel can choose to be selective, as it can seriously hinder the chance of success. The people who refused to work with Mel obviously had reasons to say no, either because they have a personal dislike for him or because they have a valid opinion due to their success with the first installment.

People who cry for Mel Gibson make a somewhat valid point, but in the end, it’s not his decision or yours. Sadly, he was rejected, but there has to be more reason behind it, which I’m sure people won’t find out.

Sucks for them, Mel brings more then Liam…

THANK GOD. The whole Mel thing is whatever, but Liam Neeson is the SHIT. I love him and definitely the better actor. Plus the movie itself won’t be overshadowed by Mel Gibson’s cameo.

  • josephine

is this the beginnning of the end for mel?

  • zzzz

That was a good call, cutting out Liam. He’s sexier than Mel, anyway.

  • zzzz

    I meant cutting out MEL!

  • Mel’s good actor

i’d watch Mel’s movies if anymore come out.

  • LoL

His drunken rant is coming true, “the jews are out to get him”.

  • anna

it was so hypocritical for them not to have him..they had Mike Tyson for christ’s sake! I would have liked him a lot in the sequel, but whatever, I love Liam Neeson too, so it’s good news.

  • the truth

Hate that they did that to him. Should have left their personal feelings behind them. suppose somebody don’t want to work with them. Everyone has deserve a another chance. I’m sure that they have done the same thing once.I do love Liam Neeson. And they say that mel hasproblems so do they for refusing to work with him. He still have money he’snot worried about that or them. JJ loves to create things on his site. That are bad.

  • say what?

I like Liam and all, but if you invite an actor to make cameo….it is rather sh!tty to fire him and then announce it publicly. Hey Zach, I think you are disgusting. Ari Emanuel, biggest hypocrite in Hollywood and a racist himself.

  • say what?

Zach telling women to shut up you f*cking c**t! Now that my Jihad jokes are interrupted, blah…………Zach G. you are a racist!

  • S*8hallo

Hangover hit Hollywood by surprise and a refreshing hit. Yeah funny but the humor is not that clever..and a little frat house TO ME.

Interesting whether the 2nd will be funny. I won’t see though because H-WOOD has already condemned Gibson based PRIVATE issues with his baby’s momma.
It’s hyprocritical..since half of that town has issues far worse that this…that just are not publicized.

  • trinilady

whoever is reading this for us in Trinidad and Tobago Mel rocks

  • Jokergurl

Mel Gibson is funnier than Liam Neeson by far, (Bird on a Wire, Air America, What Women Want ) both are great actors though, I just think the public has pretty much convicted Mel with faulty evidence at best. I thought they seriously underused the funny actors in The Hangover, Justin Bartha who was in the National Treasure movies is hilarious and what did they write for him to do? Stay on a mattress on top of a Vegas rooftop the whole movie. Also Mike Epps is funny too, and they didn’t use him enough either. Zack Galifianiakis was soooo annoying at that movie, I just wanted to throw something at him.

  • Larissa

We want Mel. He’s crazy and funny. Give him a break, many people have done and do a lot worse in Hollywood then get drunk and say stupid things. For goodness sake, he hasn’t murdered anyone, he’s not out to destroy anyone, he has a drinking problem…..what no one else has problems with alcohol and drugs in Hollywood. What about Kramer from Seinfeld saying completely hateful things about black americans ONSTAGE, referring to real historical murderous facts like lynching – and HE gets a second chance????? Hypocrisy to say the least.
