Oh my god, is that Phylicia Rashad??!??!? Awww, I so miss the Cosby show :) She looks stunning. <3 I freakin’ respect Whoopi Goldberg, she’s amazing. Such a legend….. Can Thandie Newton get any prettier?! She’s SO gorgeous. This is a beautiful cover. It truly illustrates black beauty at its best.!

Such beautiful, talented women! Can’t wait to see the movie!!

@hggfgjfdg: great play but tyler perry really scares me with this in his hands, it’s such a powerful book.

@alice: you have to look at the full title and read the poems to really appreciate it. i don’t find it racist in the least, but i would strongly recommend that before you see the play…please read the book. The lady in red is my favorite.

I read this play a long time ago and it’s so important and so relevant.
Please read the play and see the movie.
I am sure they did a great job. Profound play.
I recommended it to my son’s English teacher and he taught it to the kids.

Is anyone in America literate?
I mean really. Read it, then speak.

I cannot wait to see the movie. I don’t know why, but even the promos have an affect on me on what black women go through and the crap they put up with or don’t put up with from men. Yes, indeed, black beauty at its best.

@alice I did not find the title at all racist. When you read the book EVERYTHING falls into place. I need to read it again. It has been a long time. This is going to be fabulous!

this looks so good. love getting to see so many women of color together.

Thumb up Thumb down 0

@alice: the play names all the characters by colors, it really turns the concept of cover on its head

Gorgeous cover. Beautiful woman of all lovely hues. A truly revolutionary play. It is read in many Literature classes because it was groundbreaking at the time and probably still is. I am concerned about Tyler Perry directing because I never like his work but I will go see it because of these extraordinary women and because it is such a great piece of American literature!

all the women look beautiful, but kimberly looks amaze.

All of these women are looking amazingly beautiful but is it just me or does janet jackson seem to age backwards!? She’s 44 but looks more like 34! I can’t believe how beautiful she is! Phylicia Rashad looks beautiful also! The whole front cover is just mind blowing. I can’t stop looking at it. All of the women are just, WOW!

paper bag test anyone? there was alot of photoshop lightening going on here. these beautiful women are even more beautiful in their true shades.

Essence ALWAYS has great covers. The articles inside are NOT that great…dated and the wrirting is awful.

@hggfgjfdg and @Anne ITA, the only thing that has me hoping for the best are the actresses Phylicia, Kimberely, Thandie, Whoopi, Lorretta, Anika and Kerry the actors Richard, Michael, Omari Hill and the fact that Ntozake Shange supposedly had a direct hand in the script , so fingers crossed that Tyler doesn’t mess this up.

The women look beautiful and the men look handsome love both covers.
