It’s a bird! A plane! It’s ‘Megamind’

The production design by David James is the real hero of the film. His rendering of Metro City as a towering presence protected by Metro Man is superb. However, the film’s usage of 3D technology while commendable is not needed. You will enjoy the film whether you’re watching it in 3D or not.

I also lik the film’s clever soundtrack. When Megamind botches a hostage attempt, ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” is being played as our blue villain questions his purposeless life. Or when he gets his mojo back, George Thorogood and the Destroyers are heard performing “Bad to the Bone.”

I enjoyed “Megamind’s” spirit and its multiple narrative twists that make its second half intriguing and engaging.

@lylian: Bakira aside, look my post above, the Bosnian war was one heck of a mess. There were three sides in it and Angie will be showing essentially only one. This is part of the problem and I understand her but I also understand other people who are not happy with her about that. It is easy for us to say – this applies to all victims – because our feelings are not so directly connected to it all. I am sure she’ll do a brilliant job but I am not about to judge any living victim of the war about their opinion on the movie. Like I said though, Bakira and the other political people do not count, they just score points for their own gains.

In the midst of most of life’s tragedies is a story. Angelina said this is a love story. Love stories go back all the way to Bible times. These stories were recorded to remind us that through it all, even wars, we can find love.
Her heart is so full of love right now that of course, she was inspired to tell a love story. She could have told her own story which would have rivaled any we have ever heard. But she chose to honor the women and men of Serbia, Bosnia in her special way.
I could understand the women being upset that a stranger to their suffering was telling their story but it is Angelina Jolie, someone who has witnessed their pain in person, and held their hands and cried with them.
She is telling this to the world in their behalf so the world will not forget them and the atroscities committed against them.
I hope they will accept the honor and relish the positive attention and enjoy the movie.
Brad said in an interview last night that the children of the war have grown up and are being used in her movie daily and, that is a good thing.

Jolie-Pitt Foundation Donates to Hungarian Red Cross for Chemical Spill Relief Efforts

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie and Jolie-Pitt Foundation Co-Chair Brad Pitt today announced a contribution to the Hungarian Red Cross to assist victims of the chemical residue spill outside the Hungarian town of Ajka.

“We highly appreciate Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt’s expression of solidarity with those affected by the red sludge disaster,” said Georg Habsburg, President of the Hungarian Red Cross. “The donation from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation will support the organization’s efforts to respond to the needs of the population displaced by the October 4th spill.”

“The Hungarian Red Cross has worked tirelessly to stabilize the situation for people who have been displaced and injured by the ecological catastrophe in western Hungary,” says Angelina Jolie. “While those affected by the toxic sludge contemplate how they are going to rebuild their homes and communities, it is important to help the first-responder efforts of organizations like the Hungarian Red Cross and their local teams of committed staff and volunteers that serve the most basic needs,” added Brad Pitt.

Just hours after the accident, Hungarian Red Cross staff and volunteers quickly set to work, managing evacuation logistics, erecting searchlights and going house to house searching for survivors and those in need of rescue. The Hungarian Red Cross Disaster Management Team is overseeing the response to the devastating impact of the disaster on local inhabitants, their properties, the environment and agriculture. Working together with local government, the Hungarian Red Cross is managing shelters and providing food, water, first aid and protective masks, glasses and gloves to the approximately 7,000 affected people.

Since October 5th, more than one million people have contributed to the Hungarian Red Cross relief program through hotline and SMS text donations. With the emergency phase ending, the Hungarian Red Cross plans to turn to the recovery stage. MegaMind opens tonight at midnight in our IMax theater, but have to wait to see it tomorrow and if its a winner, and I suspect it is, I’ll be seeing it with all my family and their little ones a few more times.

Green, Affordable Homes Make It Right

Washington — Three years ago, Hollywood actor and film producer Brad Pitt decided to help rebuild a low-income New Orleans neighborhood devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Today, his project shows that energy-efficient, green homes are not just feasible — they also can be affordable with a little help.

Make It Right, the foundation Pitt created to help New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward recover, so far has completed 50 homes. Another 30 are under construction.

This will make the Lower 9th Ward the largest sustainable neighborhood of single-family homes in the world, according to the U.S. Green Building Council.

So far, about 240 people who fled when levees broke and destroyed their homes have been able to return. The low-lying neighborhood was hit harder by the August 2005 flood than any other section of New Orleans, and many of its 15,000 residents remain scattered across the country.

Make It Right’s initial plan calls for 150 homes, many sized to accommodate extended families. How fast they will be built will depend on how many people return to claim a stake in their former neighborhood, foundation officials say.

Make It Right is also pondering projects in other communities in the United States and perhaps even overseas.

“We really think it shouldn’t take a disaster for people to have access to green homes,” the foundation’s chief executive, Tom Darden, said recently. “No matter where you are.”

I love Angelina and I think it’s really good that she’s doing this movie! It will really open up the world’s eyes as to what goes on in the world. I understand that the women whom the story is about don’t want the movie to made but to be honest, I think it will be good for them. Facing their fears and standing strong. That’s kinda what I see Angelina as. A strong role model and a gorgeous, excellent mother! And we also share the same name!

I am laughing at anyone who thinks Angie would even worry about making sure her hair is combed just so when she is on the set of a war movie traipsing through rubble. I can imagine there are pseudo wannabe directors out there in Hollywood who would have a wardrobe mistress, hair stylist and make-up person on set for herself if she were directing a movie. Did you watch the “sneak preview” video? When you combine Adam Sandler’s bad acting with X’s bad acting? What you end up with is Brooklyn “Can’t Act To Save Her Life” Decker looking like Meryl Friggin’ Streep. OMFG. I think both X and Sandler have reached an all new low.
