Katherine Heigl: Family Portrait Revealed!

Katherine Heigl‘s family portrait is a rather unique one, taken from the upcoming December 2010 issue of W Magazine.

From left: Heigl, photographed in Los Angeles with daughter Naleigh, two; mother Nancy; nephew Jake, one; nephew Jason, 12; niece Madison, nine; and sister Meg, 35.

“My sister, Meg, is Korean,” Heigl says. “I hope, one day, she and Naleigh will be able to talk about what it’s like to be adopted.”

What a weird thing to say.
    .
i I don’t think there is anything wrong in adopting, neither there is anything wrong in conceiving….after all those adoptees are primarly CONCEIVED too, hence anyone conceiving a human being is selfish, our parents included, genitors of these adoptees included.. The entire chain of huma race is therefore selfish.
    .
So maybe a better education and contraceptive will lessen the children who are put to adoption in rich countries. At least third world countries have poverty and often premature death of the parents to explain the number of children to adopt but there is no excuse in rich country to get pregnant (especially teen pregnancies) with all the means at our disposal if you can’t take responsability. Children put to adoption should be for the most part orphans not abandoned children.
    .
Anyway, people should be able to chose to conceive without being finger pointed if they want to instead of adopting like they are there to solve a problem others have created. Children are usually a testament of people’s love. You usually decide to have the child of someone you love to have a living part of him/her. It’s a passeport for humanity and it’s as animalistic as instinctive. It’s natural and have been this way since the living specy on earth.
    .
No option is better or worse and people who chose to conceive shouldn’t be labelled as selfish doing exactly what the genitors of those children have done…except they actually take responsability. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
    .
We shouldn’t feel guilty or responsible because others have had the same prerogative but give up their parental rights (when they are not dead) .

who is salt, I think you can at least recognize that it is commendable that some people can go past an obvious ‘blood relationship’ and adopt a child in their family with the same love they’d give to one of their own. I find it pretty weird how you seem to give this no thought whatsoever.

I think Heigl has been very misunderstood within the media and public. I like her more as her personal intimate is more revealed.

I think it’s a weird thing to say that she hopes her daughter and her sister will talk about being adopted one day…should something like adoption matter if your family loves you and cares for you? should your own mom hope that you will talk about it with her sister? katherine heigl doesn’t seems to be the smartest tool in the shed when she talks, like most of the other actors and actresses in hollywood.

there are issues that you still do not know what your biological parents are, that you come from other country, what your roots are. Some people get lost during some point… so I think she spoke this issue very wisely,I hope Naleigh would have a great auntie :)

People need to give KH a break ! I’m sick of people saying rude things about her adopting a child. Both my brother and I were adopted and I’m Thai and my brother Vietnamese. It’s wonderful that she has an adopted sister and adopted a beautiful baby girl. For people to make assumptions because she is a Hollywood star to make her image better is ridiculous. It’s clear her family is an amazing loving family and accepting to all children. Kudos to KH and her family. :)

Who is salt – is right. There is merit is adopting children, but there is nothing wrong or selfish about wanting your own child. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise. Those parent who gave away their children for adoption (either through their death, poverty or they were not fit to look after their kid) had a BIOLOGICAL urge (or were careless with contraception) to conceive child with their partner. That is how those children became available for adoption in the first place. If such parents have a RIGHT to have children they can’t then look after, then why should it be wrong for people who CAN look after their own biological children to conceive? It’s nice that there are people out there who love their adopted children, but I bet my last dollar, that those adopted kids would ideally prefer to be with their own BIOLOGICAL parents, all things being equal (no poverty, family issues, and so on).
