Carey Mulligan: 'Great Gatsby' Frontrunner!

Carey Mulligan: 'Great Gatsby' Frontrunner!

Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield participate in a question and answer session following a special Variety/Altoids screening of their film Never Let Me Go on Tuesday (November 9) in Los Angeles.

Carey is reportedly the frontrunner to land the role of Daisy in The Great Gatsby, which will star Leonardo DiCaprio.

While Scarlett Johansson is still being considered, she recently booked the film We Bought a Zoo, which will serve as a scheduling conflict.

Last week, the Never Let Me Go co-stars attended a round table discussion at the AFI Fest along with Andrew‘s Social Network co-star Jesse Eisenberg.

    these 2 are cute and talented. better than the other ugly talentless hacks you post constantly about, i.e. kellan lutz (ape lookalike), and the rest of the bimbos.

  • yami

    UM YES YES AND YES! that would be so great if they cast her!!!

  • sanoga

    I could definitely see her as Daisy.

  • Courtney

    She would be a great Daisy!

  • dkdk

    much better choice than blake! what were they thinking?!? also Maggie Gyllenhaal would be a good choice since she has such an old hollywood star look! they could dye her hair blond…

  • lexy hates bilson

    Blake actually would have been a fine Daisy – I could totally see it. But Carey’s a great actress so this is good for her.

    cute ;)

  • L

    Love these two. I’m glad Carey is the frontrunner. I wasn’t impressed with the other list of actresses. Carey would be a great choice.

  • Lisa

    CAREY WOULD BE GREAT IN THE MOVIE

  • Lauren

    She would be perfect for Daisy! Much better than Blake Lively who has no facial expressions besides pouting her lips and raising her eyebrows..

  • effed up

    @lexy hates bilson, that’s hilarious. who the hell could think that Blake Can’t-Act-Without-Looking-Like-A-Wooden-Board-ly could play Daisy, a role which requires a broader spectrum of emotions than just ….hmm, one? haha, you kids keep me young.

  • Celia

    I like this, but at the same time…I can’t see her playing this character. It doesn’t seem right.

    However, it would be great to see her opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

  • Nic

    Such cute and talented actors :)

  • Sara

    @dkdk:
    Maggie is old and ugly.

  • GG

    I hope she gets the part.

  • Nooo

    oh god, Im not feeling it… I prefer Scarlett…

  • Manly

    I have not seen Carey act so I can not comment on that yet,however I think she looks like she is about 9 years old, the character Daisy may be fragile,she should still be a woman ,especially if she`s going to be believeable as to be coveted by Jay.

  • offtheproperty

    Carey looks very cute, especially when she smiles.

  • Ben

    People rank celebs as talented vs not talented based on who magazines say are sexy. Mags say Blake is hot,etc so women bash her and say shes a terrible actress. There are so many women equal to her in hollywood(acting wise) but mags pay no attention to. If an actress with Blakes talent is concidered ugly the public will hail them as talented.

    And that is fact.

  • ll

    she looks like a Mormon. she won’t get the role.

    Andrew is ugly too. he looks like his mother. he has no shoulders, no chin, skinny legs and has no muscles. who would love that?

  • LastWord

    Who the F is Carey Mulligan. Damn they are really going to muck up 1 of my favorite books. Feel sorry for Leo, they can’t even give the best actor a suitable leading lady. Rachel McAdams still gets my vote.

  • ?

    Carey is quite cute although she doesn’t always take good photos. But “Daisy” in The Great Gatsby? I really don’t see it — she’s not my idea of someone who’d fit that role. .

  • me me me

    she’d be perfect for that role :)

  • Not her

    @Last word
    yeah, I think Rachel McAdams would be great also,, and Scarlett of course… but Carey doesn’t convince me either, sorry.

  • Too young

    She’s a great actor, but too young to play opposite DiCaprio. They should re-cast Gatsby and give her a younger leading man, but that’s never going to happen.

    FYI, any DiCaprio / Scorsese fans who will be attending the Scorsese retrospective in Los Angeles: NEITHER will be there in person. Scorsese is filming a movie, but DiCaprio promised American Cinematheque that he would be there in person. Shame on him.

  • Not her

    a young Jessica Lange would have been perfect for the part of Daisy.. she had a graciousness about her that was so attractive. I prefer the older actresses to the newer generation…but I have to say that Rachel M. or Scarlett J. will still be a nice fit for this role.. and I agree that Carey is too young.

    @Not her:

    Jessica Lange would have been fabulous! Or Cybill Shepherd, who I’ve always regarded as underrated actress.

    @Too young:

    I agree about Carey being too young, but I’m a bigger Leo fan. If one of them has to go, let it be her.

    Regarding the Scorsese tribute, I went to pick up my tickets today at the box office and they had the information posted. I asked what happened and was told they just found out this morning that Leo wouldn’t be able to make it. He should have told them in advance that he wouldn’t be there in person, like Scorsese did. Then if he was able to be thgere, it would have been a surprise. Now they’re left dreading the angry phone calls accusing them of false advertising. They’ve hosted a lot of big names over the years, and this is the first time someone has cancelled on them at the last minute. It seems like the success of Inception has gone to his head???

  • Jen

    She is fugly. I cant see her to be Daisy .
    Daisy is beautiful

  • @isla

    Sorry about your experience at the Egyptian Theatre. Someone on an older Leo thread – also attended the tribute – suggested that Leo knew from the beginning he won`t be there but promising his appearance in LA helped him to confuse the Israeli media about his traveling plans. Plus it was posted over a week ago on an Israeli site that he was going to be in Tel-Aviv over this past weekend so he HAD to know well in advance that he won`t be there but he cancelled only in the last minute.
    I must say it`s VERY unprofessional and disrespectful of him to do something like this. Shame on him!

  • daisy buchanan

    i think abby cornish would have been the best choice, or even sienna miller!
