Nicki Minaj: 'I've Been Fired Like 15 Times'

Nicki Minaj graces the cover of Billboard‘s upcoming issue, where she’s named The First Lady of Hip-Hop!

Here’s what the 25-year-old rapper had to share:

On life before making it big: “The last job I had was as an office manager in a little, tiny room where I literally wanted to strangle this guy because he was so loud and obnoxious. I would go home with stress pains in my neck and my back. That’s when I went to my mother and said, ‘Look, I’m not going back to work.’ I’d been fired like 15 times because I had a horrible attitude.”

On waiting tables: “I worked at Red Lobster before that and I chased a customer out of the restaurant once so I could stick my middle finger up at her and demand that she give me my pen back. I swear to God I was bad.”

On her rapping style: “When I started rapping, people were trying to make me like the typical New York rapper, but I’m not that. No disrespect to New York rappers, but I don’t want people to hear me and know exactly where I’m from. I wanted the album to be universal and versatile. It really feels like it speaks for every one of my personalities.”

On writing “Roman’s Revenge” (rumored to be about Lil Kim): “‘Roman’s Revenge’ is where I’ve become a different human being. I didn’t give a damn who I offended, whose feelings I hurt—this needed to be said, and it cracks me up when I listen to it. I’m a maniac on that track. I knew true hip-hop fans would love this.”

No one is mad, fool. More like disappointed on what Hip-Hop has come to be. You young clowns worship the grown she walks on yet she is not rapping about anything worth listening to. -smh- She is cheap entertainment for the moment. Stop riding the ban wagon and start using your damn brain.

    Number #3 ..You’re right.

I enjoyed REAL rap in 80′s, 90′s..HIPHOP sucks big time. These rappers are spewing out kiddie hits with whack lyrics that don’t appeal to me and my generation it’s made for white kids who want to THINK they’re cool and relevant.

When you’ve lived through HARDCORE reall rap of NWA, Public Enemy, Tupac and Biggie days..this stuff is a joke.

And more power to Minaj for capitalizing on it.

She should distance herself from Lil Kim and Foxy Brown..because their lyrics BLOW her away..even Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah and The Real Roxanne…they are REAL rappers.

This music and her outifts and voice sound like she’s on helium ..it’s noise …so we turn it off.

  • Cristobal

@TRINIREDS: Think before I type? Are you serious? Did I ever cuss at the person I was speaking to? No. You have the gull to sit behind your computer with spell check and tell me think. Spare me. I am not a rapper and never will be one but this is not a “rebirth” of Hip-Hop. This is selling out at its best. Be wise before you decided to reply to me because I was being nice to you. Internet battling over someone who doesn’t even know you exist? Get a grip. Nicki doesn’t sound good. She knows it and people who are realness knows it. You a groupie and forever will be one. I am not hating on Nicki, I just came here to address Hip-Hop and this right here is not it.

Now…some of you are already familiar with whom we are about to discuss by the title to this particular piece but for those of you who do not we are covering the beef of Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim the Queen Bee….. I just want to start out by saying that when I first heard about this new female MC that went by the name of Nicki Minaj a friend of mine brought me this mix tape titled “Beam Me Up Scotty”….now when I popped in this mix tape it took me on ride…on a journey that I thought was refreshing….I thoroughly enjoyed each track as well as its lyrical content……then came the Barbie movement which urked my nerves still to this day…..it was nothing personally on Nicki but it was the fact that she had started this movement that had everyone, the gay men and all the women walking around talking, acting and dressing like Barbies…. Now don’t get me wrong…Nicki could pull that off… that was her all day… but just because she can do it doesn’t give every other Tom, Dick & Harry the right to imitate it. Its like, everything you see on TV and Internet is not made for everybody…. Its like being at a fashion show…everything you see on the runway is not made for the actual streets and workplace setting..its art. I think that Nicki’s swag was unique and for her only like a Michael Jackson or Prince… now sure her artistry isn’t on the same level yet as these Icon’s but they all have individual unique swags that can ONLY be done by them and anyone else that try and duplicate, imitate that only fail resulting in them looking like a complete fool and idiot…..

The same thing goes for Lil Kim….. whom I have actually seen in concert and performance in person…. She is unique in her own way.

Now many of you out there are very familiar with the beef that is floating in the air of Hip-Hop surrounding both of these artist and their artistry and if not here is the run down scoop to what’s going on. Lil Kim personally feels that Nicki Minaj is ripping off her swag that she brought to the game a few years back with the sex appeal and different color wigs and shit without paying homage to the true originator of “Barbie” which is Lil Kim. In many Interviews though Nicki DID pay homage to Kim and say that she is inspired and influenced by the legacy of Kim. On the other hand Kim wasn’t trying to hear that so she fired shots over at team Nicki calling her out so to speak. Now back in the day Sean (P. Diddy) Combs (which is NOW on Team Nicki) ran the streets with Kim and Biggie in the Junior Mafia click….. Kim feel that Diddy is disloyal and that he should be ashamed of himself for taking Nicki in and joining sides with her when he is suppose to be down for Kim….. When Diddy was approached with how Kim felt he basically stated that Nicki had done nothing wrong and that she had done nothing but pay respects to Kim and her legacy this entire time that she has been in the game and that Kim should be ashamed of herself… now folks this is what gets me because I am such a Queen Bee fan…. Diddy is right! I am on the fence about this one folks cause I like Nicki too but I LOVE Kim… but Kim you are wrong for this one boo… In a recent interview that surfaced on the infamous WORLD STAR HIP-HOP Nicki sat before her fans and discussed the issues that were brewing between her and Kim and gave the “Tea” on everything and Nicki kept it 200 all the way. She stated that people in the industry would (off camera) correct her after she would praise Kim in an interview…. Others including other female MC’s would say things like “hey why are you showing her love, she doesn’t like you” and Nicki would just brush it under the rug and continue to do it anyway because she would have rather hear it from the horses mouth before she reacted to it any kind of way…. Finally another female MC approached her and informed her on the accusations and when she finally saw Kim backstage at a concert she approached and asked Kim if everything was good and according to her Kim played it off as everything was great and that they should take a pic together and Nicki stated that Kim said that she had nothing but love for her.

:-/ <——- So after that Nicki squashed what she had been hearing and then a interview surfaced where Nicki did hear Kim talking shit about her as everyone had already been telling her so now Nicki is on a different footing with Kim…and that’s where the beef is… In the interview Nicki simply said that she refuses to be played like some dumb bitch and to not let the “Barbie” image fool you…she is NOT stupid and I must say after hearing the interview I agree…she is no dummy. She went on to say that this was the main reason with blacks in the music industry and that this is why we struggle to get ahead at times is because we’re so busy knocking each other down and holding each other back. She went on to use Lady GaGa and Madonna as an example..stating that when we look at Lady GaGa you see a lot of Madonna…but what you DON’T see is Madonna standing back stage
