Daniel Radcliffe & Co-Stars Try 'American Talk'

Daniel Radcliffe cracks up as he tries to read words in his best American accent in this funny new video with MTV‘s Josh Horowitz.

The 21-year-old British actor and his Harry Potter co-stars read phrases including “The Olive Garden,” “Justin Bieber is the man” and “Hey buddy, can I get an order of mozzarella sticks, please?” while trying to hide their British accents!

You MUST MUST MUST watch below – looks like Tom Felton and Rupert Grint have it down!

Justin Bieber is not the man and Twilight really does blow.

  • Halli

I think Rupert Grint has the most realistic american accent.

  • Allie

Tom Felton is obviously an American in disguise. This was really funny.

  • ellie

i’m a nerd because this combines my favorite things: harry potter and linguistics. i think that when trying to do a american accent actors try to use their jaw more and the guys sound like their voice gets a bit higher/more nasally. i feel like americans try to relax their tongue and go a bit lower when trying to sound english. i didn’t think any of theirs sounded that bad, but i actually thought rupert and emma’s sounded the best, although emma was really focusing on it while the guys tried to let it come naturally. i can’t do any other accent other than my natural new york one, so kudos to them.

amd i love how happy and good-natured tom felton is in all his interviews/fan interactions. i wish there really was a boo-yah restaurant.

  • alicia

love how dan and emma pause before saying twilight blows whereas tom and rupert just go ahead with it. They all know its true.

  • ibne

    i hate americans.

  • Iffy Miffy

Tom Felton rules!! I love, love him but they are all great actors and really nice young people.

  • mln

    tom felton was surprisingly funny

  • Ana

That was funny. Especially Tom ;)

  • nkenk

@ibne: Then get off an AMERICAN site, dumbass.

  • Bree

Harry Potter is so much better than the Twilight series. They make Twilight look amateur and immature.

    Harry Potter > Twilight

  • Celia

  • marie

Oh I am. I cried like a baby when I read that in the book. I’m bring a box of tissues fo sho.

I’ve also heard the Hermione torture scene is quite hard to watch.

  • velcrodots

@Celia – Yeah it was kinda, good acting on her and HBC’s part though

  • Marieme

This is really charming and different. I mean finally! So sick of the same old sh it questions being asked.

  • Janie

in american language, that means you love us.

  • Gabby

Same here. I get tired of interviewers asking them, “how do you feel now that Harry Potter is ending?” Or “What was that last day like on set?” Or “Emma, why did you decide to cut your hair?” Or…you get the point.

  • Pattycake

Sweet. I just find it strange how hard Emma struggled since she lives in the U.S. now. I’d say she’s been carefully maintaining her British accent while at univesity. And who can blame her? Americans love cute girls who speak with a British accent. The men all did a fabulous job.

  • Too cute

Tom Felton and Rupert Grint sounded the most ‘natural.’ Emma tried hard and she’s such a sweetie. All in all, a really great bunch of kids (strike that – young adults. They be ‘kids’ no longer).

  • nkenk

@Pattycake: Well she hasn’t really been here that long and it’s also harder to lose accents or learn languages the older you get .

  • shan

LOL at Tom adding Boo-Yah after saying Justin Bieber is the man. haha love how Rupert didn’t hesitate saying “twilight blows” too lol! This was just a fun change from the same boring questions they are always asked

  • girl 19

Oh i really like this video!! It’s so funny <333

  • Alexandra

I love this! Tom definitely has a southern kick in his American accent haha.
Is it really that hard to keep your accent when you live somewhere else? Like if I moved to England after a while would I start speaking with a British accent?

Dan does a great American Accent in “How To Succeed!”

  • Tattui

    hi everybody))
i’m not a native English speaker, so can somebody explain what this ‘boo-yah’ means?

  • Dina

That was hillarious, especially Tom. The guy is going far, mark my word.
I love how he asks at the end “so, what language are you speaking, I thought it was English”.

By the way, I’m British and proud of it.
