Jessica Simpson Reveals How Eric Johnson Proposed

Jessica Simpson is sharing details of how her fiance Eric Johnson popped the big question!

“I absolutely had no idea. He had talked to my mom and dad and my sister [Ashlee] three weeks before he asked me. He had the ring in his shoe at my house somewhere,” she says on The Morning Mash Up radio show, in an interview airing Thursday, December 2.

“I was like, why hide it in a shoe, but it worked. He got down on his knee and I had to sit down on it because I was so shocked,” she says.

Jess, 30, adds that it happened while she was watching Parenthood. “I was short of breath. It was definitely one of those moments where I’ve never felt that way before, ever … We met in my house it was amazing that he proposed to me in my house.”

“I can’t believe all the Simpsons kept a secret,” says Jess.

This is such a fabricated story. She’s just trying to not look pathetic. I actually like her but come on!

  • Jen

Counting down the days until they get divorced.

  • Please

    so what? who cafres?

  • Stacy

I don’t want to hate on her but she needs to stop giving interviews. She sounds so dumb.

  • nyob

it was amazing that he proposed to me in my house . . . this is cracking me up

  • TheRef

Amazing that getting engaged, right at the time her Christmas album is debuting, is just, so, oh, special.

  • Kristen

    @nyob:

Lol, me too, especially the way she’s like “we met at my house”. What? Did he just stroll in your front door one day and introduce himself?

  • hahhahj

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz Who cares? she is so annoying. lame story.

  • Allie

I love the way that everyone who has made a statement has been stressing how long Eric has been planning to pop the question so Jessica does not come across as pathetic.
    .
Well she may be right about how long he has been planning: he’s been planning since he met her on the fastest way to her cash and lucked out because Nick Lachey proposed to Vanessa, giving Eric the opportunity to “give in” to the pressure from her family. Nice move Eric!

  • I n F a m o u s l y C o o L

…keep talking you fcuking moron. it’ll just be even funnier when you break up. i cant wait. i love when people get into a relationship and the first thing they do is start talking nonstop.

  • patti

Can’t Jessica, Lindsay, Paris and all the Kardashians just disappear?? We’re all full of hearing about their wasted lifestyles. Not a one of them puts any of that money to good use. For those of us working to keep a roof over our head–we don’t want to hear anymore.

  • Bobby

He shoulda hid that ring in a giant ham, she probably woulda found it quicker.

  • Roxy

hahahaha!!!What a bunch of crap. What he borrowed the money form her to buy that ugly ring. I think she needs to stop doing interviews discussing her personal love life. Actually I think most celebs needs to stop doing that.

  • Soni

First of all, I like Jessica Simpson, especially when she was married to Nick. Nick has moved on, and Vanessa is wonderful, and I am glad to see Jessica has moved on also. If all of this is real.
    But, apparently she has lied.
She said she “has never felt this way before, ever” when Eric proposed to her.
I remember her saying those exact words when she described how Nick proposed to her.
Also, how can someone who has not job afford a $100,000.00 ring,?
I personally think Jessica purchased it herself.

But on a serious note: If this IS FOR REAl, I hope that her father stays out of this marriage. I personally think Nick and Jessica would still be married if he had not butted in on their marriage.

  • Bun in the oven/Go Ask Alice

He is ,well, how to say this delicately. He does not look like Tony Romo or Nick Lachey. He is more in the vein of John Mayer, but not like John Mayer because John Maye has tens of millions of dollars on his face and that makes him attractive.plus,John has a great career, works hard, and makes great music.

Eric is a Life Coach.Yep. That is his job per Jessica’s interview .
Rumor has it he is worth 2 million from football. I doubt that much because no way his exwife would have gone away with just enough to buy the big MCDonald’s meal deal #7.
He was a mediocere football player.

I do not dislike Jessica. I just wish she would keep the details private.Enoguh said. She has said way too much in the past and it has bitten her.

Good deal for her.She gets a marriage and a baby.
Eric, uck, gets money and a chance to live in luxury like he never knew.

Hopes she gets an ironclad prenup.

  • Bun in the oven/Go Ask Alice

    @Kristen:
She had aparty at her house and some friends brought him to set her up with.
    It worked.
    They are engaged.
    She is pregnant.
    He is in the money.

  • Louisa

This fluffy story is to counter the gossip that is all over the internet – that she has been putting the pressure on him to get married for months and she bought the ring herself. Word is she’s trying to get a ring on him as fast as possible so she beats Nick to the altar. Moved on? I don’t think so. Pathetic, more like it.

  • Sheri

I can’t think of a more unromantic way to propose! He had her hit the pause button during “Parenthood”?? Huh?! Couldn’t he have at least taken her to a swanky restaurant in Beverly Hills to pop the question? I don’t know what she sees in this guy … he seems like such a bore. This whole relationship seems incredibly forced.

  • tubby

If this was a real relationship that would go down as the worst proposal in history. Of course we all know the whole fake thing is timed to get in her the tabloids while her crappy record is out. Pathetic woman, pathetic family.

  • lexy hates bilson

Her shoe?? The way she’s been eating he was probably nervous if he the ring anywhere near food she’d eat it!
    -
Is Papa Joe trying to get her a plus line at Lane Bryant??

  • suze

what a lame attempt to steal Vanessa’s thunder. She knows she messed up. Who on earth would cheat on Nick Lachay!!

  • lisali

Jessica needs to shut her big ol’ country mouf’ UP. Quit spreading every detail of your childish relationships around the globe..maybe that way one of them will actually last.
She comes across as needy, desperate and incredibly stupid…scary combination.

  • meee

the whole story is soooo FAKE! we all know it jessica…u couln’t stand it that nick got engaged before u…to vanessa….gorgeous vanessa…whom he’s been with for 4 YEARS!! he still got engaged before u girl!! u are SO DESPERATE!! we know u bought that UGLY RING YOURSELF……AND IF IT WAS SUCH A SURPRISE…..HOW DID HE KNOW U DIDN’T WANT A TRADITIONAL ENGAGEMENT RING?? CAUSE U BOUGHT IT…..WE R NOT STUPID…..BUT WE DO WANT U TO GOOOO AWAY…CAN U JUST GO AWAY NOW…THAT U BOUGHT YOURSELF A RING…..FOR THE ONLY GUY THAT WILL STAY WITH U?

  • fat GAY queenie

I wonder if it matters if you go from one unemployed loser to another one. She needs to get a prenup!

  • LEB

@suze: I agree! Plus you don’t see Nick & Vanessa constantly giving interviews.

  • LEB

@meee: You took the words right out of my mouth! I caught that part about the ring when she said it.

  • jan

Boy, judging from this picture, Jessica needs to give Ken Paves a call. Her hair looks like something Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn wore in the 60′s! Poor girl just can’t get it right, can she?

I agree with the others who think Eric is a creep. He’s just holding on to that meal ticket as tight as he can. Does anyone else find it odd that no pictures or interviews have popped up of his ex-wife? Would love to know what she has to say about him (other than he has no money?)

  • Canadian-Alli

Congratulations on your engagement and baby.

To all those people out there who have negative things to say why bother? If you don’t like this story why did you read it and post about it? Also, all of us would look stupid at some point with people filming and taking pictures of them. Yes, being famous does involve having the media in your life BUT I believe some privacy is needed, celebs are people will feelings too and half the stuff you hear is crap, I’m sorry but I laugh when I read ” a friend of the source” in any article because first off no one with an ounce of respect for their friend would say anything and the tabloids say stuff to boost readership, look how many times these magazines get sued. Another thing, someone said that Jessica doesn’t do anything with her money and that is false. She helps out with Operation Smile which gets surgery for children in under developed countries with cleft palates and she helps out at an orphanage I believe in Mexico and has since she was younger. If everyone did a charitable act, no matter how big or small this world would be a better place.

  • itstrueagain

Thank you, Jessica’s publicist (or father, whatever).

  • itstrueagainsucks

@itstrueagain take a look at yourself in the mirror and then go throw up. Canadian-Alli is the only person so far to comment on this matter without being negative or nasty, so you make the stupid comment that they must be one of Jessica’s people instead of simply someone who chooses to recognises that ‘Famous People’ might actually be people and have feelings and also prefers to comment on the facts rather than just making rash nasty statements for effect. Whether you like Jessica Simpson or not it does not take one of her handlers to put people right about the charitable deeds that she might have done. It just takes someone who is geown up enough to do their research before posting nasty comments.

  • itstrueagainsucks

‘geown up’ – read as Grown up

  • http://N/A Mike Ezko

Oh shut up Jessica, you bought your own ring and paid for it with your daddy’s money. You couldn’t get married free willingly if a groom fell from the sky and hit you on the head. Feed that crap to other morons but not the realist people in the world. Ask your sister how her lip syncing carreer is coming along, Ditz.

  • itstrueagain

Some people ARE charitable. They don’t need a publicist to find them a charity of the month so that they seem REAL and CARING.

Everyone gets to comment here. You’ll have to accept that some people don’t buy the ap-cray that is thrown at us.

I hope she’s ecstatically happy. Got no problem with her, just with the phoney aura that we’re supposed to buy with any of these Hollywood stars.
