Disney Gets 'Tangled' Up Thanksgiving Weekend

The 3D-animated hit Tangled debuted to an impressive $69 million over the five-day Thanksgiving-holiday weekend.

The Disney cartoon musical is a big-screen adaptation of the fairy tale Rapunzel. Chuck‘s Zachary Levi lent his voice talents as dashing thief Flynn Ryder while Mandy Moore provided the voice of Rapunzel.

And as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint expected, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 won the weekend box office with $78.8 million.

Megamind surged back to third place with $17.5 million. Christina Aguilera and Cher‘s Burlesque came in fourth place, earning $17.2 million.

and Love&other drugs totally flopped!!!! Can’t say I’m not happy about that!

  • ka-blamo

It was actually pretty good for a kid movie.

  • RONTEX

We saw Tangled this weekend and it was so worth the money, great for kids AND adults.

  • blah

I’m sooo happy for Christina :) Burlesque is good film, and it should be hit, and so far it is doing nice :)

God, I can’t wait to see those movies! First, the best of all time is Harry Potter. I’m dying to watch it. Second, as a Xtina fan, I HAVE to see Burlesque! And….as a Disney fan aswell, Tangled seems to be amazing. The guy is SO cute ;D …..I CAN’T WAIIIIIT to see those!

  • Jokergurl

This movie looks really funny for a kids movie, I love the horse in the previews, good animation too.

  • Hollywood

XTINA FAILED AGAIN! FOURTH PLACE, NOT EVEN THE TOP 3! Ha! Ha! they should have given that script to Lady Gaga she would have taken it to the number #1 spot.

I’ve seen all four of these films and the two that I liked were Tangled & Burlesque. The other ones were pretty boring and annoying and about midway through them I wanted to get the heck outta there… which I totally did on the Potter one since I couldn’t for Megamind because I decided to be a good person and take the kids. I’ve also seen Love & Other… and it was pretty lame. Not even all the nekkidness helped me get through the film without falling asleep here and there..

  • hmmm

@Hollywood: I seem to remember a jennifer aniston film debuting to a paltry 2-3mil; and several others. so making nearly 18 mil for a first weekend is pretty good!

  • kkb

Yay go Tangled :D. I think I may see it a few more times :D

  • i n f a m o u s l y c o o l

…christina’s movie got horrrrrrible reviews. ahahahaha

  • Speak Now

Infamously Cool needs to leave Xtina alone and get a life of his own. We are SICK of the loser, Xtina is so far above him that he’s dirt.

@Hollywood are you kidding!? Christina’s film up against Harry Potter, a franchise that has 10 years of making movies and up against Disney animation movies too! And you think Burlesque is a flop? Tangled was a 3D movie, tickets are more expensive making more money. Harry Potter still holds the #1 spot. Megamind is another 3D movie. You really think kids are going to drag their parents to watch Burlesque? The top 3 movies are aimed at kids. Burlesque did wonderful. Its a musical. It beat out Jake and Anne’s move Love and Other Drugs. This is Xtina’s first time in a film, stop hating. As far as “giving the role to Larry Gaga” the only role she would probably get is that of a horse.

    @i n f a m o u s l y c o o l
Yet its the #4 movie. The soundtrack is #1 on iTunes too :] ahead of Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Kesha. But Im sure you think the soundtrack is just as bad as the movie.

    Get your facts straight.

Congrats to Xtina and Cher – Burleswue did great. But ofcourse the haters are gonna do what they do best which is hate. There have been many films with A list actors which have opened with around $20mill so are we gonna call those flops too. e.g.

Julia Roberts Eat Pray Love opened with $12mill – grossed over 100mill ww.

Jennifer Aniston The Switch opened with 8.1mill etc. – now that was a FLOP considering she is labeled as an A List “Actress”

At this rate the movie will easily make $50mill in the US alone. You can only call it a “flop” when the world wide total fails to meet the $55mill it cost to make the film. Until then STFU!!!

Love and Other Drugs came in at #6.

FAIL. I guess constantly promoting this movie about only nude and sex scenes and his fauxmance with Taylor Swift turned off female movie audiences. They are key to any box office success.

Actually the reviews for Burlesque were mixed…among the critics. But based on the the average move goer, many loved it…myself included. It was fun and entertaining. And let me tell you this was not my first pick, but I have to say I was impressed with it and think it will become hugely popular overtime. I remember when Dirty Dancing first came out, and the critics panned it, but now it’s a cult classic….go figure! So Christina should be proud to have this movie as her first feature film debut. She’s not a bad actress, which surprised me. lol I think she’s going to be the one to watch as a singer turned actress. Tangled Up is a really great family film as wells as Harry Potter. Love and other drug is a good movie, however many were turned off by the numerous nude and sex scenes. Some actually walked out of the theatre. haha But if you care to see either Jake or Anne naked, then this is the movie for you.

  • whatever

sorry but love/drug was pure crap. i hated it. it was so lame and boring that even jake’s hotness/nudeness wasn’t enough to save the film for me. people walked out of the theater where i was at also. tangled was all kinds of awesome and burlesque, a movie i didn’t really care to see, was pretty darn good! so whatever critics have to say doesn’t mean much b/c some liked love/drug and i thought it sucked while burlesque was surprisingly better than i expected. whatever floats your boat i guess.
