Dakota Fanning: School Takes Priority Right Now!

Dakota Fanning: School Takes Priority Right Now!

Dakota Fanning walks through LAX airport as she grabs a flight out of town on Wednesday (December 8) in Los Angeles.

The 16-year-old actress recently dropped out of the supernatural drama If I Stay – but for a good reason!

Her rep told the LA Times that Dakota wants to finish her senior year of high school before taking on any significant roles.

The rep added that Dakota will film the remaining films in the Twilight saga and may shoot a smaller indie movie, but no big roles until she’s finished school!

FYI: Dakota is wearing Luck boots by Coach.

Good for her. I hope she continues to be smart and classy.

Miley Cyrus and Taylor Momsen should take note.

I love this girl and I also love how her and her sister are being raised lol. Her and her parents seem to have found a great way of letting her act without sacrificing a “normal” childhood/highschool experience. Hopefully things continue to go aswell as they appear to be.

btw, can you believe shes only 1yr younger than Taylor M – yet Taylor just seems to be totally fked up. Dakota has been acting from a young age aswell yet she doesnt seem to be as jaded as taylor. I guess its down to their attitudes and also to the type of parenting.

Good decision; Dakota’s looking at the bigger picture. It could be that staying focused on high school now could help her get started in college. The demands of college, in my experience, were quite intense. Also, for the next few years, I don’t see how she could go into production except during summer breaks–unless she were to move her college graduation date out (ouch!).

Also, I really have no interest in a movie where the “supernatural” or “spirit world” is an essential, central, and serious premise. Frankly, I’m actually glad that she won’t be doing “If I Stay”; I wouldn’t want to see it. (From what little I know, I’d much rather see “Now is Good.”) Guess I’ll just have to watch her old movies for the next (perhaps) year or more. Ok, I can deal with it.

Why I admire Dakota:
Dakota is not a character actor, she’s not type-cast, and she doesn’t just repeat variations on a trademark screen persona. She creates a unique new pesona for each role; IMO, this is one of the things that make her an outstanding actress–and my favorite actress. (BTW, Lewellen, in “Hounddog,” is my favorite performance. Her Wikipedia page doesn’t show a single award–or even a nomination–for Lewellen; unbelievable. Dakota is owed–she’s really owed!) Without a doubt, I’ve really enjoyed her precociousness; it’s what caught my attention in the first place. IMO, it’s what allowed her to bring adult level skills to child roles, therefore making the roles function very very well in her movies. For example, in “Man On Fire,” in order to greenlight Creasy’s killing rampage, we really had to know and love Pita; Dakota was able to make it happen.

As if talent isn’t enough, she’s soooo charming.

I thought she was a Jew but she is Southern Baptist. It’s amazing that Speilberg casted her.

Love seeing a responsible, down-to-earth kid in Hollywood! Glad she has her priorities straight, though I have to admit, I’ll miss seeing her on screen. She’s a great actress for her young age, but she definitely has PLENTY of time to act after she completes her education! :)

I ran into her and her mother while shopping in a mall in Vancouver, BC (she was there to film Twilight), and her mother was firm on her not buying a pair of Louboutins, or a Balenciaga bag, even though I’m sure Dakota could easily afford it.

Great parenting right there and she has a good on her shoulders.

Dina Lohan could probably take lessons.

@Jasmine:

Yes, she’s been making movies for 10 years yet she’s really very young; even at 26 (with 20 years of experience), she’ll be very young. However, when it comes to acting, it sure seems that anyone who’d treat her as less than an adult would be in for a big big surprise. (“News falash…”–so to speak.) I’ve heard people she’s worked with peg her in an age range from 30 to 85. Many times, I think of her more as an adult even though she does teen stuff and plays teen roles; it’s a bit confusing to me and I’ll be glad when she’s out of the teen years and through with college. If I were to meet Dakota though, I’d treat her with the same respect I’d give a major adult actor; really, that’s the way I actually see her.

IMO, it’ll be another 4 years, at least, before she can take on a role as a full adult and be believable. In reality, I think each age has its appropriate roles: I don’t think a teen could really understand a 26 year old and I don’t think a 26 year old could understand a 50 year old. Building a believable persona for a role is much more than makeup and wardrobe.

On the bright side, maybe she’ll be able to do a major film on her summer break between high school and college. Then, we might get a new movie before Xmas. If not, I’ll suck it up and not whine.

As usual she looks georgous and as usual she is making the right decision. She really is the perfect example of eveything that is right with this world – as everyone keeps saying most unusual by Hollywoodstandards but she has done good.

I adore Dakota! Not only is she extremely talented, she also has a good head on her shoulders.
