Gwyneth Paltrow: Marlene Dietrich in TV Movie?

Gwyneth Paltrow is rumored to play legendary German actress Marlene Dietrich in a two-part TV movie produced by EuropaCorp TV (the project was initiated by HBO and BBC).

Marlene was not only known for her acting — she had an extensive singing career and was a highly-paid cabaret artist. Gwyn sure has been raking in the singing roles — Glee, Country Strong, and Rock of Ages (also rumored). Now this!

According to French magazine Télé 2 Semaines (via Collider), the biopic is based on the biography written by Marlene‘s daughter and closest confidante, Maria Riva.

ARE YOU HOPING that Gywneth Paltrow signed on to play Marlene Dietrich?

No way!!! Rumors are there for ages.. and nothing happened…

And I think she is too old for Marlene… younger actress
She will make movie by movie and her marriage will end sooner or later

REALLY!? do we have to start loving this dumb talentless scrag now? have hated her since the first day of her career – she’s boring, pretentious, and a brainbleeding idiot.

  • juniper

Kirsten Dunst looks more like Dietrich. Gwyneth would have made a good Wallis Simpson in Madonna’s W.E.

  • Dee

Uma Thurman should play Marlene D. she’s a dead-ringer. Just as talented if not more as Gwyneth.

  • nina

Couldn’t they find a German actress who can speak English, German and French… I’m not a huge fan of Diane Kruger but she wold be (in my opinion) the best choice for this TV movie.
She speaks the 3 languages perfectly, she’s German and she could look like Marlene Dietrich easily… but again it’s just my opinion :)

  • rhonda

how badly did her latest movie bomb? that thing was an insult to country music fans.

  • Delphic

    Wasn’t this announced ages ago?

  • Nanea

Goopy is much too haggard-looking to play MD.

And she hasn’t got what it takes to capture MD’s persona.

  • Iffy Miffy

She doesn’t have one ounce of that magnetic something MD had, horrid idea.

At first glance I swore that was pic of Marlene was Carey Mulligan. She imo, would be an excellent choice definetely not Gwyn!

  • laura

noooooooooooo!!!! Please God not Gwyneth!!!!!!!! I love the idea of Diane Kruger in this role, she did a photoshoot imspired by Marlene&she looked divine! She’s got what it takes! But truth is I’d take any1 over Gwyneth!!!

Gwenyth is an extremely talented actress. She nails any role. I would love to see her in anything. Haters.

Noooo! Being blonde is not enough. Dietrich had a definitive attitude, coolness, confidience, sultryness, worldliness. Paltrow, who I like and mean no disrespect, has none of those traits. And they would be hard to convey convincingly if not a natural part of one’s DNA. Angelina Jolie is an actress who has those traits and could pull it off, but she does not look good as blond. I honestly can’t think of any actress now who could protray her convincingly. It’s like trying to get someone to portray Mae West or Bette Davis, hard to get thier image out of your mind. Some things are better left to memory.

Gwyneth is good at convincing an audience, so I don’t dubt her talents.

  • traits

@Lisa: Carey, while talented, has no shred of confidence or guts to play Marlene.

  • Ms Barleo Gaga Pitt Fan

Bad casting. Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, even Blake Lively could do this. Uma Thurman is a good mention too. But NOT Gwyneth. She doesn’t have that exotic thing Marlene had. Charlize Theron could do it. Or maybe Marion Cotillard.

i used to think gwyneth was a frigid bi-tch but watching all her films i saw that she can really get into hey go for it. for these types of roles its usually best to pick an unknown actor

  • Liz

I think she would be great in it!! She has that cool beauty thing going for her, so good for her!

  • missy

gwen would be good in a grown up “clueless” movie, just saying.

  • Yves

    Oh God,not her again!
Diane Kruger would be perfect, like someone else said above…
Not a huge fan as well but i can see her easily doing this…
    What’s next for Gwynnie?God?

  • Beth

Disappointed. Really? How can she even compare.

i dont understand why the american have to make a film about marlene. she’s a german. so let the germans make the movie.

  • Gelanda

Cate Blanchett would be a great choice.

Diane Kruger is pretty, but she can´t act – sorry.
