'Little Fockers' Tops Box Office; 'True Grit' Close Second

Little Fockers took home the top spot at this weekend’s box office with $26.3 million in ticket sales!

The third installment of the franchise edged out True Grit, which finished the weekend with an estimated $24.7 million.

Rounding out the top five were Tron: Legacy in third place with an estimated $18.3 million, followed by Yogi Bear with $12 million and Tangled with $9 million.

THR notes that it was a slow weekend at the box office because of the holiday season – but that business compared to this weekend last year was down 27%!

WHAT DID YOU SEE this weekend?

The Tourist has earned over $53 mil US and almost $100 mil worldwide and is still to open in some major overseas markets. It just opened #1 in New Zealand this week.

No matter what glad to see some quality films doing well.

Now a true flop is something like HDYK or Management.

Weekend is not over yet and the now sadly tabloid HR is often wrong these days. Just sayin. Bye bye!!!!

Angelina Jolie Has the Last Laugh? Today 11:07 AM PST by Joal Ryan

Little Fockers won the weekend again. True Grit won second place again. Hollywood missed Avatar again.

For surprising box-office news you had to look to—surprise!—The Tourist.

The $100 million Angelina Jolie-Johnny Depp “bomb” hit $120 million worldwide.

    Boom.

And the Golden Globe-nominated comedy (or musical) ain’t done yet, even as it fell out of the domestic Top 10 after a brief three-weekend stay. Expectations were that when all is said and grossed, The Tourist could reach $200 million worldwide.

    @‘The Tourist’ distant #11:

The Tourist didn’t do well upon opening and neither did anything that opened with it. HOWEVER, by the time it has finished its run in the theaters, rentals and DVD sales–it is probably on target to make about
$250-300 million. Hardly a flop. The investors, studio etc will all get their money back and make a profit.

Well done to True Grit; good to see that ppl are actually paying attention to great movies.
btw – to people saying that The Tourist is a bomb – sure it maybe have underperformed but it will still make more than its budget. Angelina’s worst box office still outperforms Jennifer Annistons best. Plus Jennifer Anniston can NEVER healine a movie by herself because not a lot of people want to see her thats why shes always a co-star. Where as Angie can sell tickets by herself e.g. Salt, Tomb Raider. #StayMad haters

as a country music fan, they screwed up casting the anti-American paltro in the lead. Country music fans are straight-up Americans, i knew they wouldn’t support a liberal anti-American *****. Gwennie please go back to Britain with all the “smart people” we got your number here.

Anita, Is this a re-make of the John Wayne true grit? I think John Wayne won an Oscar for the movie.

I haven’t seen either True Grit or Little Fockers. I thought Meet the Parents was okay, Meet the Fockers was HORRIBLE so I really don’t want to risk seeing Little Fockers. I absolutely LOVE Robert DeNiro but I just can’t keep watching him do this to himself. Actors act to make $$$ and that, he is doing, so I guess it really doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of his movies. As for True Grit, I’m not a big western movie fan, I never liked the original (sorry John Wayne lovers) but I will probably go see it, #1 Because I love Matt Damon and #2, I just don’t see any other movie out there that looks like it might be good. I like Johnny Depp but can’t stand Jolie, so The Tourist is out of the question.

I actually saw The Tourist and True Grit because I’m a fan of the lead actors in those movies. I like them both a lot becasue I knew going in what to expect.

I cringe at the lead roles of Little Fockers. Isn’t there anything better script wise for these huge stars?

…ahahahahaha …only way alba could be in a #1 film. ahahahahahaha …any movie she’d be the lead in would fail big time.
    .
…and fcukers still typing about the tourist bombing, or not. no matter how much money it makes or doesn’t make it wasn’t a good movie. ahahahahahaha …the reviews were horrible and the film was worse (i should know, i watched bits and pieces of it online). always funny how “fans” don’t even go to see the movies yet they rant on and on about how great their shiit is all day (every day) long.

So business was down by 27% compared to this time last year…hardly surprising really when all people have to watch are remakes and puerile attempts at potty-mouth humour.

    Stiller: Yeah, that’s right, b/tches, I’m a comic genius. AND I’m rich.
Alba: Hihihi, I’m so happy to be part of a movie that isn’t going to bomb.
DeNiro: Yuuup, I know the movie’s a piece of sh/t. I just hope people remember me for Raging Bull and not this crap.

    Anita Says:

@Jack: yeah its a remake of the John Wayne movie.
