Salma Hayek: 'Wicked' Mini-Series for ABC!

Salma Hayek is teaming with ABC to develop an eight-hour mini-series adaptation of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, according to Variety.

The mini-series will not be based on the enormously popular Broadway musical, but rather on the Gregory Maguire book that the musical is based on as well.

Salma, who produced the television series Ugly Betty, will serve as a producer. No word yet on who will star in the mini-series.

FYI: An adaptation of the Broadway musical is currently being developed by Universal.

Unoriginal as I am, I’d kill to see Ms. Menzel and Ms. Chenoweth in this production. They both proved they work great on TV and they’re just so brilliant together as well as perfect for the roles.

I hope its done well for their sakes. Wicked fans all around will be very disappointed if they ruined the legacy!

I don’t spend much time in front of the television but this is something that I would actually look forward to watching.

I hope is good, I want to see more Salma, she’s great!

i don’t think this will be a musical to all of you saying the obvious choices for actresses. it said that it won’t be based off the broadways, so i’m thinking it will be much closer to be book.

I just can’t wait to see this!!!
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the musical, but I’d love to see something more based upon the book. I am so beyond excited for this, I am so definitely tuning in.

I just hope it won’t be disappointing, especially if they cast less than proper actors for the roles.

@Taylor:

It says it will be closer to the book, but Lea Michele is a great actress without singing. That’s why I want her.

Thumb up Thumb down +2

Ok so do people not like Lea Michele? She is a great actress and obviously a great singer but doesn’t need to sing every part she gets.

Wow, this is great news! Loved the book and the show. I saw it at Gershwin Theater. Kristin Chenowith was Glinda & I can’t remember who played Elphaba but the show was awesome. Hope they don’t rush it and forsake quality but hope to see it sooner than later.

Thumb up Thumb down -2

…and call me crazy but on the artwork of the witches, I’d swear that Glinda is modeled by Britney Spears on the graphic!

Thumb up Thumb down -2

For the Universal movie, they should cast Reese Witherspoon as Galinda. Seeing her as ditzy angel character in Little Nicky and her ditzy lawyer character in Legally Blonde, I think she’s the perfect Galinda. Who cares if she probably can’t sing.

Thumb up Thumb down -3

I absolutely love the musical Wicked…the book is just okay. Not sure the point really in the miniseries if they are already making Wicked into a movie

Go Selma!! It’s always nice to see this smart and talented Latina on the web site.

Thumb up Thumb down -5

Yeah!!!! If you want to go young, I would say: Kristen Stewart for Elphaba and Blake Lively for Galinda. Older casting: Kristen Chenoweth for Galinda and Sarah Silverman or Anika Noni Rose as Elphaba or Jennifer Garner as Alphaba. Adam Lambert should be Fiero!!!!!

Thumb up Thumb down +2

Snooki as a munchkin!

Thumb up Thumb down -2

I’d love to see January Jones in something new… love her in mad men but Galinda would be a contrasting roll to see her in

@chloek:
Have you read the book? It’s not a pretty fairytale like the musical, it’s hard stuff..
And for that we need someone else than Idina and Kristin, because I think it would ruin our way to look at Wicked: The Musical.

I’m thinking Anne Hathaway and Reese Witherspoon, but I think they are too big for at mine-serie… Sigh ;)

Thumb up Thumb down 0

I could see Anne, she would be okay, but please no Reese

Thumb up Thumb down -2

For the mini series, I agree about Reese, she’d be perfectly adorable as G(a)linda. I’m not sure about who’d play Elphaba though.

Thumb up Thumb down -1

I think they should keep with Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristen Chenoweth as Galinda. They killed it, when they were in those roles, and really no one can even compare with them.
