    KUDOS TO JEFF BRIDGES. I LOVED LAST YEARS CRAZY HEART . I AM GLAD THAT TRUE GRIT IS DOING SO WELL, BEING THAT IS A REMAKE. JOHN WAYNE WON AN OSCAR FOR THIS MOVIE. I NEVER SAW TRUE GRIT WITH JW, BUT THIS MOVIE IS PRETTY DARNED GOOD. JEFF IS MY SECOND FAVORITE ACTOR , BEING THAT BRAD IS MY #1 ALL THE WAY. I CAN’T WAIT FOR TREE OF LIFE. HOPEFULLY BRAD GETS NOMONATED AND GETS AN A WELL DESERVED OSCAR. HE WAS ROBBED FOR IB, BUT IT’S OK. JEFF WON, NOT THE FAMEWH*RE GC.

    CORRECTION–BY USING THE WORD ROBBED, I MEANT THAT BRAD SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR IB. ANYWAY, I AM GLAD THOUGH THAT THE WALTZ GUY WON FOR IB…

    I liked Country Strong. The storyline could of been better but the acting and music was good. Leighton looked adorable and Garrett is hot.

    Country Strong did not do bad in the box-office it opened in less than 1500 theaters while the other movies except Black Swan are in more than 3,000 theaters. Country Strong had the highest per-screen average of any movie in the Top 15. 7 million is a decent gross for a movie that did not cost so much and was targeted to a specific audience.

    Way to go MATTIE finally did a 100 million dollar movie…with out the

    @T:

    Please don’t act as if this was some Independent film..

    Paltrow has been all over promoting this film. For months. She has been in your face. With that kind of promotion they were looking for more then 7 million. Regardless of the “target” audience. besides Gwyneth is not some southern belle like a Reese or Sandra. She was targeting the wrong audience. Sandra’s film was a success because she was targeting everyone. It worked. Gwyneth was working this film because she thought this was her next Oscar Bait role. She and the studio. That was the talk for months.

    I am not a fan anymore. So I won’t be seeing it and won’t talk about whether she was good or not. The point is She over promoted the film and people got tired of hearing and seeing her. Why pay 10+ dollars to see her on screen when she is on TV everyday.

    And 7 million is not a decent gross when there are going to be BIG must see films next weekend.

    She needs to just promote and stop shoving herself down our throats. Too much too much too much.

    And I don’t see that Oscar nomination coming either. She was disappointed not getting the GG nod.. so there you go.

    Back to being the girl next to the guy in Iron man. That is a step down for an Oscar winner to me.

    Not Flops! Says:

    Matt is a FANTASTIC actor. And these movies made this money in US $$$$.. While the JPS on here are still counting the OVERSEAS $$ for the bomb movie Tourist. These figures are what Tourist should have made, and didn’t.

    sara Says:

    boy that Frockers sure made big bucks. nothing like The Tourist made here, huh? lol Knew Country Strong would flop too. Buzz is usually right, and it made what The Tourist made opening day……

    @Chelsea: I just stated what EXPERTS said okay…i dont care aout Sandra, Reese, Gwyneths promotion, Oscar or no Oscar. All I stated was that its not considered a flop and the movie did decent oh and LOL at you not liking Gwyneth anymore because she promoted her movie (that is her duty)

    i completely agree with every word you said but of course i am bias because i hate her guts.

    however, that being said, you can definitely tell that she campaigned hard for this to be her next big role/Oscar and it could have been, for someone else. the casting director made a huge error. GP is not country, USA or singer. there’s no built in audience for her for this type of movie and it showed in the numbers.

    Toplining Gwyneth Paltrow and costing just $12 million to produce, Country Strong came in on the higher end of Sony’s expectations. It also fared better than Season of the Witch in drawing a B CinemaScore, compared to a C+ for Season.
    Country Strong earned a B+ CinemaScore among women, who made up a full 73% of the audience. Film played slightly older, with 51% of the audience over the age of 30. – The Hollywood Reporter

    The movie opened in 1,424 theaters it was not going to be some BO hit….it did just fine

    I thought Little Fockers was a stinker but look how well it’s doing. shrugs
    I enjoyed Country Strong. If you are a fan of any of the actors in it (especially Garrett) you won’t be disappointed.

    @T:

    NO I am not hating her for promoting her film.. yes it is her job. I actually stopped liking her about 5 years ago when she moved to England and became a snob.

    That is when I marked her off my list. Not when she started promoting this film. She tried to do the same crap when Iron man first came out. Like she was the reason for the movie’s success. Please.

    But since the supporting are saying no one expected the film to make money then they have all gotten what they wanted..

    It will drop and drop fast.

    Country Strong is not playing anymore near me so I had to drive a long way just to see it and it did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed all the songs and the acting was really good. Gwyneth, Leighton, Garrett, and Tim did a great job.

    You forgot one fact. Country Strong is only in 1424 theaters. Most other movies are in a minimum of 2500 theaters ! FACT ! Stop hating on Paltrow i love her , she’s incredible !

    YESSSS this is awesome, True Grit is amazing, glad to see it overtaking the other movies! I <3 you Jeff Bridges……

    Anita Says:

    Country strong is right on course with predictions – it was only made for $12 mill so it will definetly be a box office success. I think it should easily do $50mill ww. Not every film has to do over $300mill to be a success; plus the ones that do those figures usually cost over $100mill to make in the first place. Also nice to see True Grit exceeding expectations.

    What a ride for Jeff Bridges – an oscar last year, and now two big movies this year. I love him, and he seems like such a class act. He’s been married to the same woman for 30 + years, and he seems sane and humble. But he’ll always be the DUDE to me!
