Sacha Baron Cohen is 'The Dictator'

Sacha Baron Cohen has lined up his latest comedy project – and this time, it’s an adaptation of a novel by Saddam Hussein!

The Dictator, scheduled for a May 11, 2012 release, is “the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed” and is inspired by Saddam‘s novel Zabibah and The King.

Larry Charles, who also helmed Borat and Bruno, will direct the film.

Oh yes, let us laugh at Saddam Hussein while people are dying by dozens and over a million died since the US invaded … so much fun this topic.

Ok, Im no fan of Saddam, but movies like this are so unnecessary. This is only going to piss of people. Saddam and the ongoing situation in Iraq is a sensitive issue. I do not find humour in making light of an atrocious history where people were murdered. SBC is overrated.

I don’t think it makes sense to play an Iraqui by Jew, the enemy! The movie will not be at all objective and we will have a distorted vision things!

Sadam was a horrible person, a dictator and so on but I do isn’t a good idea especially with the conflict at the moment and to laugh while thousands and thousands of innocent people are dead!
I find nothing funny about it

    @Iffy Miffy:

It wasn’t that long ago that a movie called 2012 came out. The movie is a disaster film where earthquakes destroy (on screen) all of the Earths architectural wonders. The only wonder that was too sacred to be destroyed on screen was that big box in Mecca that the Islamist flock to during the Haj. The director of the film said he had been threatened with a fatwa against his life if he kept that in the film.

So whether this topic tickles your funny bone or not, its more important than you’d think. In America we have freedom of speech and we need to cherish and embrace that freedom. Sadam was a tyrant and despot and this story (with a tongue in cheek or not) needs to be out there. If only for a, “we CAN so we did” attitude. Who cares if it sucks or not. (there wouldn’t be any further discussion if this were about Mao or Hitler or Mussolini or any other dictator from history….but dont you dare insult the precious followers of Islam.)

@ Rupert No, I’m not going to watch this ****, he’s just going to anger a lot of people, he’s annoying anyway, I do like his wife Isla Fisher though, she’s funny. I don’t think this story needs to be out there, it’s just exploitative and it’s a SLAP in the face to the troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nothing about Saddam should be made a joke, he killed thousands of Kurds with chemical weapons, he oppressed thousands of his own people, he ordered executions on hundreds of Iraqi officials and their familes. You think we have freedom of speech in America? Not really, there’s things you just can’t print or say still or you’ll have the FBI at your door. Actually it’s more like you don’t insult Mohammad the Prophet, (who was not a dictator check your history there) There’s a reason why America has Islamaphobia because they are mis informed about the religion itself. It’s the “fundamentalists” of Islam, not Muslims that pervert this religion. Take a class on the Middle East sometime before you judge.

    Leros Says:

@Iffy Miffy: It is waht we do here. We make fun of the idiots in the world. Making fun of him IS standing against him.

  17. 17
    Leros Says:

@Jokergurl: We are aware of the difference between religions and fundamentalists. We are not misinformed.
It is not a slap in the face. (actually, that is illogical since he will be making fun of the very man the troops are fighting).

Furthermore, you condemn a movie making fun of a dictator, but you seem to support free speech.

Really, nothing you said holds water.

What SBC does is satire. I can appreciate the audacity for him to do what he does. It’s sad that people aren’t understanding. It’s the same thing that popularized Bill Maher. There should be some more instances of the funny guys poking fun at social and political matters.
