Fergie Defends Christina Aguilera's Super Bowl Performance

Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie is sticking up for Christina Aguilera‘s Super Bowl performance.

“You know what?” Fergie shared on on Dan Patrick‘s radio show. “It’s such a huge venue, your nerves take a hold of you. I completely understand. She’s one of the best singers of our time. Nobody can take that away from you. … But you get nervous at these things. We’re human.”

As for her own performance, Fergie admits it wasn’t perfect.

“Some of my notes were pitchy to me,” she shared. “It was so exhilarating. The whole thing. It was so big. That’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

BEP‘s will.i.am added, “Xtina sing’n wonderful.”

American Idol vet Jordin Sparks also shared, “The test of a true artist is continuing even when things go a little left & not letting people know it did during the performance. I love Xtina.”

Glad Fergie and other of Christina’s peers are supporting. And America likes to think they have hearts, my ass. People in the industry are having more heart!

THIS FOREVER!

I feel bad for all the flack Christina’s getting. After everything in the last year and now this… I think people are making a bigger deal out of this than it is. I mean yes, it’s bad to screw up the National Anthem, especially when you’ve been singing it since you were like, 7, at football games. But it’s not like she said completely different words from a different song. It was still a lyric to the song, and she was probably so nervous and jittery in front of over 100 million people, that she wasn’t thinking clearly. Especially knowing that those people are probably gossiping about and judging her.

At least she sang live and didn’t go out there and lip sync and fake it like some current singers would. She tried, she messed up, she’s owned up to it, she’s not making excuses about how her mic was messed up or whatever. Lets say good job, could’ve been better but a valiant effort, and move on.

Well, Atleast she’s set herself up for a HUGE comeback! Now all she has to do is deliver.

Yah, its totally not the easiest thing to perform in front of 100 million people. Anyone can sing in front of like 30 people if it was on a daily basis. but a Super Bowl sized performance that happens here and there in someones lifetime. of course there’s going to be nerves! sure it was a bit of a fumble but she gracefully finished it off just fine to where i didn’t even notice until people started tweeting about it.

People just don’t like Christina right now and that’s completely fine. If she didn’t mess up the lyrics, I’m sure people would have found something else wrong. Singing, hair, clothes, make-up, outfit, shoes, nail color, etc.

I just want to know if the people judging her know the lyrics 100% themselves and if they can sing the national anthem at the Superbowl. Matter of fact, at this point, I will accept anyone who can sing at their child’s Little League baseball game.

SHE MESSED UP THE LYRICS. Wow. That’s SO tragic. My God, she’s gonna make the economy crash, keep the troops in Iraq some extra months, make thousands upon thousands lose their jobs, have children they can’t support, make people have cancer and HIV/AIDS, etc.

It’s NOT the end of the WORLD. That’s happening in 2012 or 2039. Whichever one you prefer.

If I jump on the Christina bandwagon, even to offer support, nobody will notice that I sucked worse!!

Of course she’s going to defend her. They both sucked big time and she has to cover her own a.s.s. They better find a better excuse than being “nervous”. You’re supposed to be PROFESSIONAL singers and rehearse until you nail it. I’m sure Whitney, Beyonce, Carrie U. and others were are nervous as well, but as a professional, you don’t allow that to get in the way, specially if you’re singing the National Anthem. Christina failed last night and she will better off acknowledging it than making up lame excuses.

As of Fergie and the BEP, not so great without the auto-tune filter, huh?

Well stated! She had done more live performances, flawlessly, over he past 11 years of her career, she’s allowed a flubbed line or two. Big whoop! Moving on….

@Ashley:

She sounded and looked like pure crap. She was a H.A.M. (Hot Ass Mess). My cat could have sang it better. It was a disgrace! Stop defending these people that make more money than God! Learn the words alright! Stop putting yourself out there so much and stay home and take care of your kid! How much did you drink or smoke before the Anthem because you sure looked awful?

I don’t know where Fergie gets off complaining about her pitch – we could all hear the automated pitch correction on all of Black Eyed Peas’ members in every one of their televised performances this year. In today’s music media, splashy pitch-corrected dance acts are hailed as our best musicians.

how could some say that was crap –she has real extreme talent–if she was black then they wouldnt say anything–no one is perfect she did a great job just not totally perfect so what she sings it all the time —for Fegie to back her up like yeah right everyone should be & stop hatingto me Fergie ant **** compared to a real voice !

NOT ONLY DID XTINA FORGET THE LYRICS TO HER COUNTRY’S NATIONAL ANTHEM SHE SOUNDED LIKE A F*N DYING CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAD TO LISTEN TO KELLY TO CLEAR MY EARS OUT!!!

Thank goodness. I was hoping someone would come out in her defense. I’m counting on Madonna and Ciara next. I’m just hoping!

Christina sounded like an angel compared to fergie singing sweet child o mine, that was an abomination

Fergie ant **** compared to her hahaha ofcourse everyone that really knows the biz backs her up –Christina is a extreme talented artist–she sang the song a 100 times before how could people try say she looked shot & sounded like crap– thats alot of the blacks or haters hating real stupid like Wendy Williams lies & talking **** about people when she has no room to talk –she is one of the best thats why she did the anthem not perfect but ok performance!

It wasn’t just the words that was effed up. That rendition sucked pretty much all around. Including when she tried to make up for the lyric flub by adding all the extra runs and pitchy high notes at the end. It’s an anthem, not a pop song.

Ijustwantedtosay @ 02/07/2011 at 4:41 pm

Of course they goofed up, they are both foreigners! It Does seem like they should have at least studied the words though, how Unprofessional!
