Anderson Cooper Talks Attack in Egypt

Anderson Cooper suits up as he arrives at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Wednesday (February 9) to tape an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.

The 43-year-old Silver Fox chatted about his recent trip to Egypt – and being pummeled!

“I don’t recommend it – I’d never been hit in the head before!” Anderson said, adding that he and the production crew were hoping to talk to pro-Mubarak demonstrators. “All of a sudden, the guy went to grab our camera, and from then, it just became a free-for-all – people came from all around, surrounding us, punching us, kicking us, trying to rip the clothes off my female producer,” he continued.

Glad everyone’s okay now, but what a scary situation!

he is NOT a mortal. I wish I could look that good after a week of reporting in turbolent Arab country in questionable conditions. he looks great for his age

  • W

I hate to say it but…typical entitled American with God complex who thinks he can go to a foreign country and ‘help’ show the natives how to be civilized. I’m sorry but you can’t go to a country in a dire situation such as Egypt and expect things to go smooth. These idiots are risking their lives for what? To come back home and tell a ‘cool story’ about how they were almost killed? What was the purpose of going there? To report on what’s going on there? There are other ways of doing that.

  • sunbears1

@W: He’s a reporter. He went there to REPORT since the government is trying to make it as difficult as possible for civilians to. He didn’t expect to help them. He didn’t expect things to go smoothly but he was surprised by how terrible things were over there because of censorship.

  • Hello!

    GIVE IT TO ME

  • OVERRATED WHITE AMERICAN

He looks like a drog and is unwilling to do anything fun, remember when Kelly tried to get him to the workout and he whined throughout the entire thing. Cant stand people who are up themselves

Hating on ANDERSON f*kn COOPER now lol?

    LUV YA SILVERFOX <3

  • Yasmin

    glad he’s back safe

  • Jane

That was nuts, to attack a reporter and his crew, stupid! Glad they are all ok!

  • bee

@W: That’s an ignorant thing to say, that’s his job!! And what other ways should he be doing it then, without those reporters we wouldn’t have known what was going on there when the government shut off the internet. People have been kidnapped, tortured and killed during those black out days and we wouldn’t have known that if it weren’t for those reporters. And not just American journalist btw who’s been harrased but EVERY foreign media has been targeted. Those thugs were paid specifically to rough up journalists.

  • Melissa

    @W:

Americans dont have a God complex. Okay so maybe we just realized most of us our civilized and if reporters from another country came here I bet if it was a female her clothes wouldn’t be almost ripped off. I say eff all of them over there in the East – let em deal with eachother. I agree we need to stay out of it. They are all so medieval. What a bunch of nasty pigs and sorry excuses for men. I could care less what the hell happens to them or there sorry ass country.

  • Melissa

Maybe we just realized how civilized we are and we’re trying to help these ignorant medieval thinking countries. Trying to rip of the females clothes? REALLY? What a bunch of pigs! I say screw em and let them be. Let them figure out their crap on their own. They are all just jealous of us and think we’re crazy bc we don’t like to stone women or try and rip their clothes off at rallies….and those who do go straight to jail. Idiots.

  • sunbears1

    @Melissa: You’re an idiot.

  • no way

I can’t trust a closeted man, no matter how hot he is. How did he turn the egyptian story to be about him? Does he speak Arabic? No, which means his information is secondhand fodder. Did he not think that maybe these people just didn’t want foreign interference and they are NOT mubarakwhateverhisnameis supporters?

  • Sean

This liberal hack is trying to make a big deal out of nothing. There wasn’t a scratch on him. Mobbed my ass…

  • proudEgyptians

to those of you some ass hats who now nothing about egyptians we did not ask of your help or your reporting we were doing just fine with out your so called reporters trying to provoke our protesters to fight with each other and i do agree that there were some violence but it was not directed toward just foreign reporters who the hell do you think your self to egypt the country of 2000 years while you are still making it to the surface?? and those attackers were paid off to do so and your precious reporter were saved by true egyptians so go and see the video before any of you open their mouth again!!

  • proudEgyptians

and one more thing to all of you who are supporting us and there were some of you here that saw what is really going on and that he was making too big of a deal, thank you we really do appreciate your support here!!

@bee: Wow! You really are an idiot. He is a reporter in the middle of a huge demonstration; OF COURSE it was going to be violent there! Especially because he’s a foreign reporter and your media NEVER conveys the truth. I have seen the video that CNN showed of Anderson Cooper’s “attack”. Yes, a lot of people tried to push and hit him and his crew, BUT in the background people were saying “Stop! Stop! Let him go!” and they managed to get them away from the thugs that started the violence. These people are the real Egyptians. Why did he not mention that? Plus, it’s your foreign government and media that’s interfering with everything we’re doing. We don’t want your media here because they convey a wrong picture and we don’t want your government meddling in every little thing we’re doing. It’s NONE of your business!

In a demonstration like that there’s going to be “mob mentality” people are angry, aggressive, and the more numbers of people who are angry and aggressive the more dangerous it gets especially to foreign reporters, (they do NOT want or NEED us there) which is what Anderson Cooper was considered to be. Not everyone tried to attack them though, some of the Egyptians tried to help him, but couldn’t get to him. The media outlets always sensationalize what they want depending on the station, here is no different. The US should just stay out of it, stop trying to control this and let the Egyptian people deal with their government. Every time the US tries to get in on a situation like this we wind up looking like a bully, or just plain stupid. I hope the Egyptian people get what they wish of their government, that has to be frustrating what they’re dealing with.

@bee: Sorry didn’t mean to reply to YOUR post!

  • Halli

Seriously, Anderson is making this about himself and trying to milk this. Stop it. I saw the footage, I got a bigger a$$ kicking from my siblings growing up. Can’t believe he’s never been hit in the head before, what a sheltered kitten.

  • Matty

I watch Anderson every night and he has NOT been making the situation in Egypt about himself AT ALL. He is solely focused on the anti-Mubarak protesters and their courage and strength. It is quite clear how much he’s in awe of how they continue to protest peacefully and relentlessly. He’s done nothing but report the facts about Mubarak and praise the protesters. Whether his work is accepted or not by the Egyptian people, I admire him for telling the truth and speaking up strongly about Mubarak. Anderson’s one of the best reporters around, his work during Katrina, the Haiti earthquake and the BP oil spill speaks for itself and it’s frustrating to read misleading and negative comments about him that are completely wrong and unfair.

  • MRN

People try not to judge cause you weren’t there neither was i but sometimes media messes up with everything
Not all of the egyptians are uncivilized
they were full of it,they were full of everything , they wanted the change and they were full of rage i don’t think they meant hurting anyone
and i am not attacking any of you
so please don’t bash me =)
    xx
