Henry Cavill Talks Suiting Up for Superman

Henry Cavill covers this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands Friday (February 18)!

The 27-year-old actor chatted about tackling the role of Superman in a new Zack Snyder reboot of the franchise! Check it:

On thinking he didn’t stand a chance in the audition process: “All I could think was, Oh, God, they’re going to look at me and go, ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going, ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready!’”

Zack Snyder, on being impressed with Henry early on: “He walked out and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, ‘Wow. Okay, this is Superman.’ ”

At last recognition! Go Henry, well deserved. Just hope Zack Snyder does a better job than Bryan Singer

He’s a lot ‘paler’ than I like but I think would…. … yes I would :)

Cavill was so believable and awesome as Charles Brandon in the TUDORS. Those eyes..his voice and that face..wow!
Four seasons of this man and the rest of the cast on this brilliant series was so entertaining.

I read that Cavill was considered for Bond role…but too young and Harry Potter writer sort of had him in mind when charaster was developed…but when it made it to big screen ..Cavill was too old.

Timing is everything in this business and I hope the role brings Cavill the success he’s been looking for. But for me…he’s always been a Superman.

That’s saying alot since I grew up watching Christopher Reeve in the role and loved him too.

Henry is a good actor and sexy man, but I think, that role of Superman is not the best for actors to future. Good luck, Henry!

He’s not just a good looking model type. I’m in the industry and there are tens of thousands of men who are at his level of looks spread accross this country. The reason that all the Super-Heroes (from Wolverine to Spider-Man) are going to British actors is because American’s are spoiled Paris Hilton types who don’t take acting seriously.

Maybe it’s because of Shakespeare’s over in England, the Brits take acting much more seriously and spend years if not decades perfecting acting. 95% of American’s are a joke, like on the level of those American Idol contestants on the first round, they all think like Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian and haven’t spent years taking acting seriously.

In this case the best actor got the role of Super-Man since America is full of douche bag wanna be actors.

Major photo shop pic though – geez

I don’t like his stumpy neck but he’s an alright actor..

on one hand i think he has the look on the other i just don’t know. i’m unsure about him. can he even act?!? …good!?

I love him!! Hope the “Superman curse” doesn’t strike in his case.

He was great in ‘The Tudors”. Not quite as handsome without the facial hair. Can he do an American accent, or are the filmmakers going to have the Kent Farm in Smallvilleshire in England?

well i like this actor but Superman is distinctively AMERICAN.
so i dunno. i know he’s an actor and all but being American is sort of something you carry in your persona having grown up here so…
not sure how that’s going to work out.
guess we’ll see.

He looks like a 70′s porn star.

He’s gorgeous and talented. I’m so happy for him. Hopefully, this Superman movie will bring him the success and recognition he deserves.

I first became aware of Henry on The Tudors. He was wonderful and the way he portrayed his charachters wide ranging emotional depth was very mature for someone his age but he pulled it off.
I am very happy he will now fill Superman’s boots but hope hope hope he isn’t saddled with a Kate Bosworth for his Lois Lane. It’ll ruin the movie ala Superman Returns. He needs a feisty Lois someone along the lines of a Mila Kunis perhaps?

he actually looks like Clark Kent in this pic – add glasses and he looks even more convincing :) I can’t wait to see him in a suit , yuuuum ]:>

@anonymous blowhard
there are plenty of great actors stateside that are not walking egos or “douche bags” …

your quote that you are in the industry is laughable … pushing a mop on set doesn’t count.

playing Superman is a hard gig to survive. Everyone who has tried in my lifetime had their career ruined by it because it’s such a silly terrible character to play.

brits are getting roles stateside because there simply a thousand times more roles available here to try out for as opposed to the 50 movies produced by england studios. simply put the movie industry for the most part is located in california.

@noitallnow:
It wasn’t harry potter it was twilight! He so should have landed 007, Daniel Craig is Ugly!! And he was almost cast as superman before too! Now, finally his luck is turning around! Thank god because he’s way too ho to stay stay from the screen!

@Anonymous and honest: Hello, Henry is good but please, can’t compete with 80% of American actors. That is why hollywood is the movie center of the universe. As a Brit or other national, you haven’t arrived in show business until you are accepted and succesful in America – it’s the world standard as is Broadway for theater. If I were Henry though, I ‘would have thought twice on this since Superman historically is a dead end role.

@Payne:
That doesn’t mean american actors are better, just that there is a larger audience..the market is larger, that’s why the industry is too..supply and demand
