James Bond wears dress for Women’s Day
James Bond actor Daniel Craig is to star in a campaign by charity group Equals in support of International Women’s Day.
Equals, a charity venture between global aid organisations including Oxfam, ActionAid and Save the Children led by Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox, has created the cinema and digital campaign to raise awareness of gender inequality that still exists in the UK and worldwide.

The short film, which also features the voice of Dame Judi Dench in her role as Bond’s advisor M, sees Craig appear dressed as a woman in a blonde wig.

In the film ’M’ interrogates Bond with a series of questions on gender issues such as pay inequality and domestic violence and reveals a number of facts and statistics about the treatment of women in society.

Dench asks: “For someone with such a fondness for women, I wonder if you’ve ever considered what it means to be one?”

The film will be shown online from Midday today (7 March) and in cinemas from tomorrow, the 100th International Women’s Day (8 March).

An Equals spokeswoman says: “We feel it is crucial to involve men in the movement for women’s rights and EQUALS is about men and women working together for positive change.”

TWEET AND SHARE TO ALL! this needs to be seen and heard.

So true and so many things people just dont think of:
the amount of rape and abuse!!! Women all over the world are subjeced to! and yet somehow in CANADA where we think we are ahead, we are not paying women the same money for the SAME FREAKIN JOBS!!! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE LEGALLY?!?!?!?!

And women losing their jobs due to pregnancy, that is complete discrimination. WHY ARE WOMENS RIGHTS SO BEHIND AFRICAN AMERICANS RIGHTS?!?!?!

People need to realize racism has been taken care of better than womens rights. Women cant even walk the streets without risk of being raped for god sakes!

And women do 60% of the worlds work yet own 1% of property and make 10% of the income….we are so overworked, forgotten, and abused. THIS NEEDS TO STOP, SO SPREAD THIS VIDEO AROUND!!!!!!!

From Bond to Blonde: Daniel Craig dresses up in drag to help highlight inequality

With a tumbling blonde wig, black and white wrap dress, make-up and high heels Daniel Craig makes a surprisingly attractive woman – if you ignore the stubble rash and broad shoulders.

The actor seems happy to go from bond to blonde, and his appearance in drag will no doubt raise a smile from fans of 007.

But behind the humour is the real message, the James Bond actor is putting himself in a woman’s shoes, quite literally, to highlight the inequality women around the world face.

March 8 marks the centenary of the International Women’s Day and the short two-minute film features the voice of Dame Judi Dench as M asking Bond if they are equals.

As a suave-looking Daniel enters into shot as the Government Agent M makes the point that although it is 2011 men are still earning more than women, have better job prospects, are far less likely to be victims of sexual assault and having a child poses virtually no risk to a man’s career.

M asks Bond if he has ever put himself into a woman’s shoes saying: ‘For someone with such a fondness for women, I wonder if you’ve ever considered what it means to be one?’

Craig exits the screen reappearing in drag and while the initial reaction to Craig in drag might spark a smile, the statistics revealed shocking and have the desired effect.

Women complete two-thirds of the work in the world yet only earn ten percent of the total income and own a mere one percent of the property.

70million girls do not have access to a basic education and 60 million girls are sexually abused on their way to school.

M further reveals that at least one in four women are victims of domestic violence and every single week in the U.K. two women are killed by a current or former partner.

The film is the first to feature Bond which is directed by a woman, Sam Taylor-Wood and is scripted by Jane Goldman.

Sam Taylor-Wood said: ‘Despite great advances in women’s rights, statistics show that when it comes to the balance of power between the sexes, equality is far from being a global reality.

‘As ‘M’ reminds Bond, facing up to gender issues and the sometimes covert nature of sexism in the 21st century is something that we all have to recognise, confront and challenge.’

The film was commissioned by EQUALS and spokeswoman Esme Peach said: ‘We are thrilled that Sam Taylor-Wood, Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench and such a prestigious production team agreed to create this powerful short film for EQUALS.

‘We feel it is crucial to involve men in the movement for women’s rights and EQUALS is about men and women working together for positive change.’

Judi and Daniel are wonderful in this. Thanks to all who worked on this video for all the women in the world. Don’t you just love Daniel more after this? By the way, he has great legs in heels.

  • susan

i just love the comments made by Judi Dench.

  • marie

well. physically, we’ll never be equal.
males will always be stronger and bigger, have more muscle content etc
a female could be packing heat and still be overpowered.
so yah, that’s always gonna suck.

  • Good Man

Very Important issue. Love Daniel Craig and love that he cares to share his celebrity and participate in such topics as women’s inequality.

  • Miller

This clip tugs at the heart strings.. I shall never forget it. Hope to see it on TV.

  • Mona

All the men must accept their problems with composure and all the women with equanimity.

  • Cindy. K

Thank you for the powerful message. By the way, Daniella is more beautiful than me. LOL

  • Manchu

women shouldn’t be celebrated. they are so jealous, bitter and catty always cutting down other women left and right. (as seen on this site and other gossip sites) I know not all women are like that, but the internet kind are atrocious. (which is alot of todays society, sadly).

  • jasmine

Great video and great point. I get why him dressing as a woman was necessary here but honestly, I feel like people just find excuses to dress in drag now…it’s weird.

  • Sadaf

In my country, it shows no sign of improvement about this matter.

  • dave

Yes, it’s very disturbing especially when you have a daughter. I hope the world becomes a much better place

  • jello

@Manchu: Ur so right. Women should be beaten, raped and killed. And in between these things she should be greatful to even see the light of day in between the kitchen and birthing children. Hell why stop there-No one should be celebrated. Why? Because according to your logic the whole-ENITRE groups of people should suffer for the actions of the few.

Do the world a favor and stop breathing. One less idiot to feed.

  • Sadaf

But I am still hoping that all will turn out well…. I don’t think to submit to the belief that we are powerless to change our destiny. Thank you for the message. Thank you, Daniel, Dame Dench.

  • sarabeth

OMG! When I first saw the picture I thought it was Barbra Steisand!

    Great campaign and thanks, Daniel!
