Spider-Man: Julie Taymor Replaced as Director

Julie Taymor will leave her post as the director of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

The troubled production has also delayed opening night from March 15 “to an evening in the early summer, 2011,” producers said in a statement.

The show is also set to be revamped with new music, sound, staging, and book rewrites before the opening.

Julie Taymor is not leaving the creative team,” producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris said. “Julie‘s previous commitments mean that past March 15th, she cannot work the (daily) 24/7 necessary to make the changes in the production in order to be ready for our opening.”

I’m glad to hear she’s not helming this bound-to-be dry adaption of Spiderman. It does not suit her style. Hopefully Taymor will move on to better things, other than remakes to films that are not even 15 years old.
