I don’t see it, but i’ll trust them.

She’s not at all how I pictured Katniss. But I can see why they decided to go with a 20 year old actress. And Jennifer can act (I’ve heard), so that’s a good thing.

Plus, considering Jennifer is older…that means they can cast older actors to play Peeta and Gale. It would be weird if they had cast 25 year old Hunter Parrish opposite 14 year old Hailee Steinfeld, but they can pretty much cast anyone with Jennifer. I’m rooting for Taylor Kitsch as Gale and Hunter as Peeta.

hmmm.. i suppose she’ll do okay (she was GREAT in winter’s bone) but she’ll need to do a lot to physically match the description of katniss. darker hair, and some weight loss, i think. they could have found someone better, i think.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was amazing and gritty in Winter’s Bone. She’ll do Katniss justice but I’m interested to see how they change her appearance…they can do anything these days with hair dye, makeup, lighting, etc.

Really really don’t see it and I think she looks much older than 20 so playing a 16 year old, not quite sure about that.

Yay!!!!!!!!!

Casting a 20 year old totally takes away from the fact/horror that it’s children fighting to the death. Katniss is supposed to be tiny, olive-skinned, with black hair, and while 16, she looks 14. In short, not JL. JL is great, but not Katniss, at least in how she’s described.

Excellent! She will do such a great job because she is just so talented. Can’t wait for this release in 2012!

@RebeccaS:

Will not be going to see the movie. She is NOT Katniss

HELL TO THE NO

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEAHHHH anyone ANYONE whos seen Winters Bone can tell you ho young and vulnerable and hard and complex she looked in that. Katniss isnt exactly a stretch from that. she’s gonna ROCK!
frankly having a younger actress makes the shoot difficult cos if the girl is young nad the guy playing Gale and Peeta are older it makes kissing scenes difficult esp. legally. Hailee watsit would make a good Prim but she’d SUCK as Katniss. Its called hair dye people. and oh my god, its like no actors ever lost or gained weight for a role….oh no. wait. they do
MORONS

Great actress, wrong for the role. Not as excited for this anymore.

@Casey – Hailee is too old to play Prim. And you’re calling us names?

She’s a fantastic actress so good luck to her!

The producers knew but simply didn’t care, #9. Get over it.

Yes, you will, #11.

Perfect fit since she has such olive skin and such dark hair!!!

Romeo, did you even read the books? Of course it’s a big deal that she looks 25.

Not my first pick, but she has the acting chops. Though they better dye her hair dark, get some gray contacts, and (no offense) she needs to get leaner; Katniss has a wiry physique.

Never read the book and never saw Winters Bone, however certain aspects of a book are elemental to the plot and theme of a story. From what I have read the age of the book’s protagonist is an important part of the foundation of the plot. Messing with that could shift the focus of the story making a different story altogether. If they can’t sell Jennifer Lawrence as a young teen whose to say, Maybe they will settle for a movie “inspired” or “based” on the book rather than a movie version of the book. It wouldn’t be the first time. Shame really, It isn’t like there isn’t enough good young actresses that look the age of Katnis.

I HOPE HUNTER PARRISH GETS THE LEAD!
HES SO EFFING HOT!

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!

CONGRATS JENNIFER!!!

Clearly we know she can act (hello she was up for an Oscar) its just the fact that she looks NOTHING like Katniss. I’m sorry she just doesn’t.

If she dies her hair dark I think she would be perfect!

So I will go ahead and predict…Jennifer as Katniss and Elle Fanning will be Prim.
