Sandra Bullock Donates $1 Million Toward Tsunami Relief

Sandra Bullock looks upbeat as she heads out to run errands on Wednesday (March 16) in New York City.

The 46-year-old actress has donated $1 million to the Red Cross to support tsunami relief efforts in Japan!

“The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family,” the organization said in a statement. “This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.”

Sandra also donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders to benefit Haitian relief efforts after the 2010 earthquake.

Sandra is so amazing for doing this. Her generosity just adds to the already lengthy list of reasons to respect, support, and adore her. What a gal.

  • Lilly

Great example from Sandra! Good for her, we should also help in our own possible way!
    Good Bless <3

  • gi

good woman, now if all the other celebs would follow suit instead of blowing their money on thousand dollar purses and shoes.

  • laverdadduele

I’m pleasantly surprised to finally see a celebrity not being a self-centered moron. Sandra has earned my respect and all other celebs should do the same. Instead of doing some stupid campaign for others to donate money or purchase a stupid song, they should start digging in their own pockets.

  • Japan

I love generous and good hearted people who are concerned about others

  • SJC

I already have so much respect for her and the fact that she has donated another $1,000,000 to a cause in need makes me respect her more. She could just sit in her Hollywood life style and not give a damn about other people but she has the humility that is missing with a lot ‘stars’ in Hollywood. They could learn a lot from her. Not just in her charity work but also in the way that she handles herself.

  • LALA

Reason number 500 for why Sandra is my “chick crush”. She’s just terrific!!! …I agree that it would be great for others in Hollywood to give up the private jets and excessive shopping to provide some UNCONDITIONAL help (hint hint Tom and Katie…don’t expect the needy to sign up for Scientology or detail your SUVs).
Snarky comments aside…My prayers are with the people of Japan…

  • anonnn

@laverdadduele: so true. She donated her own money like the rest of us not like some others who whine and whine until we donate the money and they do nothing but enjoy the attention.
    muy bien

  • REDCROSSDOCWITHOUTBORDERS

She just knows she owns more than she needs..wise woman not cheap and stingy

  • hmmmm

Im glad she isn’t one of those (most) celebs who only do charity events in order to gain publicity. They have so much money and yet are very selfish to give away some. Sandra is a kind hearted woman, and her million dollar donation will be repaid to her in many blessings in her life I’m sure.

I’m not a fan (I get a cold vibe from her) but this kinda makes me want to reconsider. Great gesture Sandra!
Totally agree with the previous comments about celebs asking US to donate/buy stupid stuff when THEY earn millions.

what is $1 million to them when they earn $20m pero movie

  • katie n

She is a phenomenal woman. She gave 1 million to the tsunami 2004 victims in Sri Lanka as well.

  • An

    Angie best heart

  • Michele

How dare she ANNOUNCE this donation. Charity should be done in private…blah, blah. Just writing this because of the grief given to other celebs when donations are made public.

  • CanadaGirl

Sandra is always one of the first to donate money. She’s such a generous and amazing woman. Adore her.

  • That’s the way you do it!

Kudos to her. She didn’t hold a telethon asking everyone else for money … she gave because she can. I love when celebs do this.

  • Ehm

Wonderful, she’s a real role model! She had such a tough year last year and so much going on yet she still has the strength to go beyond her personal drama to help others in need. And she’s handled all her drama so well, I can’t believe it. That is SO strong. We all live in the same world, and we all have the same human needs and troubles. I think she’s amazing. Love her spirit!

  • Candace

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOVVVVVEEEEEEE her!!!

  • Lovely Sandra

Way to go Sandra! Wonder why BRANDgelina hasn’t stepped up to the plate?

  • Jones

Love to hear it when any celeb who donates on this level. Way to go Sandra! Funny though how there doesn’t seem to be any accusations of self-promotion that I normally hear for a certain other celebrity couple. Just sayin’….

  • jasmine

RESPECT. She does a lot of good work with her money. Another reason to love her!

  • boston61

Pretty stupid. They have plenty of money in Japan. That is not the problem. She could have really helped someone here with the money.

  • rachel

@Boston61 — is that your age or your IQ? Moron.

  • sefora

    god bless her!!!

  • tom

I did some relief work in Waveland Mississippi, (Katrina) years back and we were supplied brand new Stihl chainsaws…..guess who donated and bought them…..Sandra….she walks the walk

  • SJC

@Michele: If it wasn’t for celebrities for her, a lot of people wouldn’t donate or wouldn’t be aware of the causes that need help (not including big issues such as Japan and Haiti). You should be grateful for her and respect what she does.

  • kei

Sandra, thank you!! Hang in there, Japanese people!

  • patty243

Angie donates money for press, she is a homewrecker. Sandra is real and people love her. Sandra doesn’t need press.

  • fudgevo

Well hats off to Sandra. It’s nice to see some celebrites helping out in a crisis like this.

  • Jokergurl

@ Kaz and the other idiot. Go stick you head in a toilet!
Cool she did this back in 2004 with the tsunami as well, not to mention 1 million to the September 11th Fund, 2 million to Haiti, 1 million to New Orleans for Katrina, she doesn’t just talk about charity, she gives her own money. Thank you Sandra :)

  • mln

@boston61- actually she has helped her, she has done a lot for NO after Katrina as well. She donates her money across the board. She recognizes how fortunate she is to have money and she always donates.

@ Michele- technically the Red Cross announced this donation- it didn’t come directly from her PR rep. but ya know what, even if it did- she put her $ where her mouth was. I’m sure the people who have benefitted from her generousity in the past don’t care whether its announced or not- just that its given.

why so much cynicism on a good deed?

  • http://www.advancedwebads.com/sc/164 Randy Addison

Sandra Bullock is really a generous lady! I hope she receive more blessings and more projects in the future! She is one of those few Hollywood stars that do care for others.

  • offtheproperty

That is impressive. Very generous of her.

  • offtheproperty

She can do that and she did do that.
Kind of takes your breath away.
