Looking gorgeous! Bet he can’t wait to get home to his family :)

Evidently he wanted to get back as soon as possible, since he flew out almost as soon as he could.
Appeared in London for Boss on the 17th, then flew home on teh 18th.
Sure sounds like a man who wanted to get back to his family ASAP!

  • Spill the beans

The Hobbit starts filming this month. Wish we knew if he is or isn’t going to be a part of it. Don’t know why he’s being so coy about sharing the info.

  • @12

I don’t know if you could call contractual obligations “coy”.
He says he can’t talk about it. He isn’t pretending to be shy about an announcement. ‘Can’t’ talk about it, and ‘won’t’ talk about it are two different things.
IMO, his not being allowed to comment on it means that they are still negotiating the finer points of the contract, and that the official announcement will probably come from Peter, himself.
WHEN he returns as Legolas (being optimistic there), he may not start filming until much later, anyway. Bilbo and the dwarves need to travel a long way before thay reach the home of our favorite Elven Prince.
I can’t wait to see him in the blond wig and pointy ears, again!!!

  • @12

It is odd. Elijah and Cate Blanchett were able to confirm early on.

I also had thought it might be that they are still negotiating things like merchandising, and if he states on the record that he’s in, that’s binding and weakens their negotiating position.

They haven’t announced Bard yet, have they? And they haven’t announced Thranduil or Smaug. Presumably they are leaving Mirkwood and Laketown and Lonely Mountain till later.

  • @14

Well, not all contracts are the same.
It may be merchandising, as you said. We all know that the sure to be upcoming Weta Mirkwood Legolas, and the Weta Battle of Five Armies Legolas, will be hot collectors item when the time comes.
Or it could even be something like the length of time in NZ. He may want to make sure that there aren’t scheduling conflicts with The Leaureate, or some other project that we have not heard of (remember, he said a “couple of exciting things). Or maybe even working around Miranda’s schedule so that they aren’t on other sides of the planet when they have Flynn to consider.
Or it could all boil down to a question of money. Orlando is in quite a different position coming into this film than he was for the trilogy. . The franchise made a TON of money off of his image and popularity, without much of it going into his own pockets. He has some negotiating power now, why not use it
I know that he had quite a lucrative deal to get a percentage of the boxoffice from the last two Pirates films (I’ve heard the amount of 20 million kicked around). And other rumors have stated that he received more for 3M, than all of the musketeers combined. So maybe he is just wanting his due. You can’t fault him for that. That’s just good business. And as much as he loves Peter, this is still a business.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will all be resolved quite soon, and that we can start looking forward to seeing our favorite Elf on the screen once more.

  • LOTR fan

I like Legolas but i shall miss Aragorn. The king is the king.

  • @16

I had a crush on Aragorn from the book but like a few LOTR book fans, I was disappointed in Aragorn in the film. I thought he was a bit soppy and not ruthless enough in the action scenes. I know lots of people would disagree, of course.

Bard is a very similar character to Aragorn, so it will be interesting to see who they cast and how they adapt him.
