Benjamin Millepied Defends Natalie Portman's Dancing

Natalie Portman takes her dog, Whiz, for a walk on Thursday (March 24) on a chilly day in New York City.

The 29-year-old expectant mama was spotted taking Whiz out yesterday, too.

Nat‘s fiance, Benjamin Millepied, recently defended her dancing in Black Swan after articles questioned how much footage from the movie showed a body double and not Nat herself.

“There are articles now talking about her dance double that are making it sound like [her body double] did a lot of the work, but really, she just did the footwork, and the fouettes, and one diagonal phrase in the studio,” Benjamin told the L.A. Times. “Honestly, 85 percent of that movie is Natalie.”

There is nothing bad about having a body double. She did an incredible job! Cleary, it is just not possible to dance 100% like a professional when your primary goal is to be a good actress.

@bp, i totally agree with you. She was amazing in Black Swan

Is she trying to bring awareness to animal cruelty by wearing fur? Or was she coordinating her outfit with her dog? She so pretentious.

    Me Says:

He means 85% of the acting, right? Because let’s be honest here. If someone else did the footwork and she did the torso work, then she didn’t do 85% of the dancing. Nice of him to defend his baby’s mama and all, but let’s be realistic here.

she needs to stop inflating her lips..does she want to look like Angelina Jolie or what? Insecure much?

When are Millipeen and this pretentious broad getting married? I guess they want the baby to be born a *******.

    @Heather Says:

I don’t see her as pretentious.
First of all it doesn’t look like real fur.
Besides most of those kind of coats come with fur and most of people I see around wear these sort of fur details.
Finally, if you are an activist, I really appreciate your effort, I tend to agree with you. But I also think we should not judge people only on this basis. She is one of the rare talents in Hollywood. And she is also one of the rare actors who have a decent education and school degree. Most of them are talentless, ignorant, gross famewh ores who slept their way to success and they need a full PR staff to tell them what they have to say, which charities they have to endorse, which outfits they have to wear, etc. And, yes, they tell them NOT to wear furs.

I knew this fat biotch was a fake.. her body double is who made that movie. She needs to give her the Oscar.

reminds me of Cate Blanchett who said she did most of the dancing in curious case of B.B. the point isn’t that they have a body double, its lying and saying they did most of the dancing.

fake lips needs to stop killing animals..did she cut off a cow’s bu** and sewing it on her lips?

    BD Says:

There were actually several body doubles and editing techniques that enabled Nat to win her Oscar. But she and Ben are too vain to acknowledge that.

    Chelsea Says:

I don’t know. Something seems off here. Why keep the fact that there was a dancing double so hush-hush to begin with? It’s fishy. I saw Black Swan, Natalie was good, but not Oscar worthy. I thought Annette, Michelle, and Jennifer were all better.

hahaha I knew she couldn’t be that good. What’s up with her face, she looks different?

    bluegreen Says:

I dont have a problem with body doubles, but give credit where credit is due. That is something Natalie hasn’t done. She didnt deserve the Oscar. But she’s Jewish, she’s got connections.

Maybe he meant they did not use a lot of real dance sequences. I remember they focused more on her face and on torso movements. Anyway, I can’t remember another movie on ballet with professional actors playing dancers roles where the result was so credible. Of course, ballet lovers can see the “machinery” in the stage scenes, and anybody can understand she simply cannot perform footwork and diagonals. but overall, I think the result was acceptable and as an actress she was great.
When he says she is 85% of the movie I agree since she made this movie a great one – script, direction, ballet quality and other actors being pretty average to me.

This is the article about Sarah Lane, her body double.

    http://www.dancemagazine.com/blogs/wendy/3733

Kind of despicable that Natalie didn’t give her a shout-out at the Oscars. I don’t care if she “trained” for 5 months—that doesn’t make you a ballerina to a professional standard. I have feeling there was a lot more of Sarah Lane in Black Swan than people are admitting.

    Tasah Says:

I’ve studied ballet since I was 3. Natalie is not a professional, clearly, but thats not the point of the film. She did a really good job in my opinion. The choreography highlighted what can be learned- arm movements, while straying away from complicated footwork. I think Benjamin did a fantastic job and so did Natalie. I just don’t think he should downplay the body double’s work, afterall the feet are very important in ballet.

    Krauss Says:

Darren Aronofsky strongly denied the use of a body-double and now he is eating his words.

the fur on her coat is clearly fake. however she says she is vegan and yet she does not wear vegan makeup, did not use it during the whole awards season.

She clearly did not get the glowing part of pregnancy.

    SerenaDou Says:

Actually she trained for an entire year, and took lessons as a child. As someone who dances I can say that with therighht training she very easily could have done 85% of the work. As someone who also took lessons as a child, left it for theater and softball, and then got back in at 18 I find that the movemements and the grace all comes back with a little bit of effort. Plus, none of the dancing in their was so spectacular that someone with moderate amount of skills couldn’t do it. Thirdly, the fur is fake, People’s Style Watch always lists it in their ‘ most needed’ and Dior makeup is one of many brands that have turned vegan in the past couple years. And that Sarah Lane girl sounds like a *****, she already said she disliked Natalie because of how Benjamin broke up with his other girl to be with her, check Glamour Magazine sometimes.
