Natalie Portman & Benjamin Millepied Take A Taxi

Natalie Portman covers her face with a tote bag as she leaves a building with fiance Benjamin Millepied on Sunday (March 27) in New York City.

Last week, American Ballet Theatre soloist Sarah Lane claimed that in filming for Black Swan, “On the full body shots, I would say 5% are Natalie. All the other shots are me.” Lane was responding to an interview with choreographer Benjamin Millepied who said, “Honestly, 85 percent of that movie is Natalie.”

Fox Searchlight released a statement over the weekend: “We were fortunate to have Sarah there to cover the more complicated dance sequences and we have nothing but praise for the hard work she did. However, Natalie herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film.”

FYI: Natalie is wearing the “Woolen Trench” in caviar black from the Isabella Oliver Maternity Collection.

It seems like she’s been pregnant forever.
And this whole dancing controversy is irrelevant.
The reason she won the Oscar and the film got so much attention is because of her performance. Her acting. Not the dancing.
In all honesty, the dancing was not the great. I can’t remember one dance sequence in the movie that impressed me. I can name quite a few acting moments though.

  • Hanne

It looks like she’s rushing to the hospital!

  • Dollhouse

I don’t care for Natalie Portman, because her role in Black Swan was average. The movie and her work in it was so over-hyped, and of course, the Oscars loving giving out awards to over-hyped, medicore actors and actresses.

I believe she did some of the dancing, but most of it? I doubt it. Most of these actors never do most of the work anyways and they all the credit.

  • randyk

Where’s the usual deets on the clothes and accessories? I swear, these posts are becoming more about what the celeb is wearing (i.e. ADVERTISING) than about the celeb.

  • zaraaaa

she seems like the most miserable pregnant woman…she’ll probably end up with postpartum depression

  • Eresyn

    @Hanne:
yes, she does look like she’s rushing up…she’s also very bloated. Look at her face. When was she due? she must be close by now.

  • Celia

    @zaraaaa:

Since when does Natalie smile and wave at the dumb paparazzi? I would be miserable too if they were photographing me when I felt so uncomfortable and then selling the pictures to the tabloids.

  • joan

portman is a liar and fraud.
and it must have been a slap in the face to her gynocologist father when he learned that she used sloppy birth control methods.
    shotgun engagement.
she publishes papers about her devout judaism and then gets knocked up by a guy with a live-in girlfriend.
    fake and fraud.
i am sure all ballet dancers feel like spitting on her.
    and she deserves it.

  • KIM

I think it is very sketchy that she won an Oscar for playing a dancer when she wasn’t the dancer.

  • Jill

She did steal another woman’s man and now this – seems like her good girl image is just a PR construction – much like that idiot Jennifer Aniston.

  • Lynn

I think it is very sketchy that she won an Oscar for playing a dancer when she wasn’t the dancer.
.. SHE IS AN ACTRESS, NOT A BALLET BALLERINA.. SHE CANT BE PERFECT, NOT ANYMORE . AND THE OSCARS ALWAYS IS FOR ACTING. IN “DANCING WITH THE STARS” OR IN OTHER THINGS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE DANCE

  • jane

There is nothing bad about having a body double. She did an incredible job! Cleary, it is just not possible to dance 100% like a professional when your primary goal is to be a good actress.

  • charlotte

Where does she get all that all that arrogance & confidence???? Fore someone with such average acting skills, and for someone who was in such a ridiculous silly movie, to win an oscar, just says to me that winning an oscar has nothing to do with real geniuine talent, , even I could win one,

  • Kelly

I think it is OK to use a body double, but don’t try to lie/trick people into believing it was 90% you dancing – when it wasn’t. I think she should have been more upfront instead of being so greedy.

  • Eon

Hey Natalie why did you iron flat your hair again? i like it messy and smelly like your unshaved vajj…. oh and that runway wide forehead & semi hydrocephalic head of yours give me chills

  • Raichill

Natalie looks like she is retaining fluid. Her face looks quite puffy in these photos.

  • NormaIsabelle

Wow. Natalie Portman covering her face while getting into a taxi with finance. Major news! I’ll sound the national alert bell.

  • Eon

i agree that pregnancy doesn’t favor this pumpkin head! and is she having some kind of weird edema that’s only isolated in her chipmunk face?

  • lexy hates bilson

Poor Natalie! The press are going to hound her until she gives birth.
    -
BTW, who cares about the body shots?? She won the Oscar for her ACTING not dancing!! Some people will do anything to get in the spotlight!

  • joan

without the dancing, black swan was one of her more mediocre roles. she got the oscar because of the dancing that she took too much credit for.
how could she thank everyone and their mothers, but forget the actual dancers themselves? it was done purposefully, thats why!
fake and fraud. just like chinny maniston.

  • Jess

I’m sorry, but i’m tired of having to make this correction!

Only 10-15% of the dance scenes are full-body or show the ballerina’s feet — that 10-15% is SARAH LANE, so she is not lying when she says she danced almost 90% of the dance scenes that aren’t just upper body shots. I’m so tired of articles making it look like Sarah said she did 90% of the TOTAL dance shots and implying she is lying!

The Picture above make it look like Nat and Ben are rushing to the hospital. She is holding her belly in one.

  • Nicole

she won for acting not for dancing so that is irrelevant….
    Gorgeous Woman and Talented Actress.

  • Halli

Okay. Darren Aronofsky said 80% of the dancing “shots”are of Natalie, but that includes meaningless cut away shot of throwing her arms up or up close face shots of Natalie supposedly dancing. BUT the point was Benjamin Milliped can’t keep his mouth shut and claimed Natalie basically did 85% of all the dancing, including the crucial dance sequences of in the Swan Lake scene and other full body shots. For those dances Sarah deserves credit and Benjamin basically tried to railroad her efforts becuase he is obsessed with the image of his baby mama.

  • jaliah

All they had to do was to be honest and give Sarah the dancer her dues instead of this cover up because an oscar is involved. Sarah the dancer has learned the hard way the politics of movieland and how fake a lot of these folks are when oscars and money are involved.

  • Helen

They should have been honest, but everyone – including Natalie – got greedy for the Oscar.

  • http://J.com kaz simply Amaazingg !!!!!!!!

    They cry

  • hollywood

    she got fat

  • Jones

@ Helen – Agree with you and others who’ve said the cover-up is the real issue. I really don’t think people care if Natalie had a body double or didn’t do a majority of the dancing (specifically the footwork). I think the real issue is that everyone lied about it: first Darren Aronofsky, then the studio, then Natalie in their desire for critical recognition and awards. Now they all look silly because they’ve been caught in their lies. And rushing to defend Natalie in the press (first Millepied then the studio) just makes it look worse. I saw all the films of the best actress performances last year and Portman was not my pick. But I knew she would win because of her heavy Oscar campaign tactics. Now her other Oscar nominated performance in 2004′s Closer (with Julia Roberts, Clive Owen and Jude Law) was Oscar-worthy in my opinion. Not Black Swan.

Of course director Darren Aronofsky had to come to Portman’s defends the producer’s portrayed Portman as a prodigy and became a premier ballerina over night during award season and Natalie went along with this lie. They are not going to back track now when she’s won so many awards for the movie so they’re going to cover their asses. Unfortunately for them no one believes their lies the public at large is not stupid we have eyes.

    tainted oscar!!!!

  • bridesmaid

Portman’s confidence–only jealous people see it as arrogance–comes from her talent. They should have given Lane more credit, but clearly Lane’s just fameballing now, using someone else’s success to catapult herself into celebrity. Good luck with that after everyone but IMDB haters forgets this “controversy.”

  • balea

@Jill: You mean Jolie? The husband stealing, the PR image. Jennifer is too plain to even need any coverups.

  • Nat best Actor NOT best Dancer

Who cares what X17 says ? Have you ever read the crap they come up with about Brad and Angie. Pure and uttter nonsense 95% of the timee.
The award handed to Natalie Portman was an oscar for best actress and she won it fair and square. The and Natalie has the award at home biggest mistake is Natalie Portman not giving the extra (sorry i forgot her name) a sincere Thank you .Yes gratitude should have been the first connection. Other than that there is nothing left to say. Maybe she forgot as alot of them do or she couldn’t remember names as what happens apparently up on that stage knowing you are looking out at millions of ppl all over the world.
I read that the movie was suppose to be a small Indie movie but is doing great at the BO. Alot more money then what they thought so it must be a good movie.

  • diary

There is nothing wrong with a body double. There is something wrong however with lying about it.

but hey “lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off” …….ha but natalie did that too. Thats all it takes to win an Oscar.

  • Helena

rumor is she’s due this summer, but i think thats off

  • Cecille’D

@JOAN: you know what, Natalie Portman is a smart actress. Why would u say those things about her? Just remember, NOBODY is perfect. To say those things about her, doesn’t makes u look better than her.

  • mandma

Lol the fact that people think Sarah is looking to get famous are in denial. She is a dancer. A spot on TMZ is not what she is going for, it will not enhance her career. She was responding to Benjamin, a collegue whom she clearly respected.

  • Jamie

How is it sketchy that Natalie won an Oscar for playing a dancer when she’s not a dancer? She’s an ACTRESS and that’s what the Oscar awards are given out for – ACTING, not dancing. I’m not even a fan of Natalie’s, but this whole controversy is ridiculous and I completely agree with Celia’s comment.

  • Grandma of Four

Honestly, this whole “who did the dancing” thing is redicilous! BM did NOT say that 85% of the DANCING was NP….He said 85% of the MOVIE was NP! NP was hired to do the ACTING….of a very complicated part….and was duly rewarded and awarded! SL was hired as a BODY DOUBLE to do the dancing that NP did not have the training for years to do! This is the MOVIES…you know, MAKE BELIEVE…BODY DOUBLES (yes, that includes DANCING doubles) and stunt folks work in movies all the time! I would bet at this point, SL is wishing she had kept her mouth shut and not made such a fuss! She was hired to do a job; she did it; end of story! Do not think Hollywood is going to come calling again for her dancing skills!

  • lexy hates bilson

Give the body double “credit” – did the body double do this for free?? Did she not receive a pay check??
    -
Wow I hope to see all you haters crying foul when all the male-dominated summer “blockbusters” come out where we KNOW the lead actors – like Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman & Co., Chris Evans – aren’t doing their own stunts in those summer block busters!!! I expect to see all of you complaining about body doubles doing most of the work while the actors get all the credit – and money!!!

  • Annie

I agree there is absolutely nothing sketchy about Natalie’s oscar. The Oscar was given for her PORTRAYAL of a CHARACTER who happened to be a ballerina. A portrayal is just that – fiction, make believe, pretend – not the real thing – don’t people have any imagination? And as far as the character when, I thought Natalie absolutely nailed it. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role just like I can’t imagine anyone other than Sissy Spacek playing Carrie. When I saw Black Swan I was watching Nina Sayers, not Natalie Portman who I may agree or disagree with over an opinion in real life – and THAT is good acting. When Natalie spoke about how hard she trained I only ever took it to mean that it was hard work to get her body looking anywhere close to credible to the untrained eye as a ballerina, not that she was actually BECOMMING a ballerina. I agree it would have been very nice for Natalie to thank Sarah Lane at the oscar’s since she’s dedicated her whole life to a craft which is no less than acting. However, I think if Sarah wants awards/fame she should stick to trying to find that in the dance arena rather than taking jobs as stunt doubles – she is a ballet soloist after all. I think the reason Nat didn’t mention her wasn’t so much a “cover up” but rather that it is not the usual protocol for actors to thank their body doubles.
