James Franco: NYU Professor!

James Franco takes a walk down the street in a slick grey suit on Monday (March 28) in New York City.

The 32-year-old actor will take his knowledge of the film industry to New York University, where he will become a professor next year at the Tisch School of the Arts.

James will teach a class of twelve graduate students about adapting poetry into film.

“He’s here to teach because he really knows something about directing that he can share with our students,” said John Tintori, chair of NYU’s graduate film program. “He’s incredibly prolific, and that comes from a real work ethic — and that’s another thing to impart to our students.”

Used to like him but now even his face just gets on my nerves urrrrrrgh. I am allll about self confidence and loving yourself but shiz man this guy just reeks of arrogance and he tries to come off that he is so down to earth. Give me a break.

Yeah I would take that class! Too bad I don’t live in NY…
Wonder how many of the students will be there just to flirt with professor Franco.

MangerBouger @ 03/30/2011 at 6:31 am

WOw … he must be really good then … bravo ! Can’t believe that someone in stupidwood is actually smart LOL.

Super Cool @ 03/30/2011 at 8:07 am

Professor??? Is becoming a professor that easy? What has he done academically to become a professor? Wow… What a joke…

@Super Cool:

He studied English with a focus on creative writing at UCLA. After receiving his Cachelor degree there he moved to New York to simultaneously attend graduate school at Columbia University’s MFA writing program, New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts for filmmaking, and Brooklyn College for fiction writing, while occasionally commuting to North Carolina’s Warren Wilson College for poetry. He received his MFA from Columbia in 2010. He also is a Ph.D. student in English at Yale University and will also attend the Rhode Island School of Design.

I really think he deserves being a NYU professor.

@Bluebell: …You do realize that normally professors already HAVE a PhD, as well as postdoctoral work in the field? It’s not typical for someone who’s just a PhD candidate to be a “professor”. They are usually just TAs. Well, at least at my university anyways, I’d be horrified if they gave me graduate students as professors instead of established, well-recognized doctors in the field. I’ve heard some American universities do cheap out by making grad students teach classes though. I can’t imagine paying the insanely high tuition of American schools only to be taught by a grad student.

Personality-less d-bag who blames everyone else whenever he fails to deliver.

love him!! what i would do to be in his class!

I love James! <3

does anybody know why James Franco’s facebook page doesn’t exist anymore? what happened with that?

@anne: he’ll teach next year and he’ll have his phd by then

james looks so handsome!!

claudiaxo @ 03/31/2011 at 3:32 am

@AB: i think it’s because he posted a picture of him and some naked women like dancing around him or something. check @jamesfranconews twitter they have info.

Curious, ” he really knows something about directing…” What has he directed?

Anyways, good for him to be able to reach that rank I guess. Although, just because you look good on paper doesn’t mean you’re really that good. Trust, I know a lot of people who are amazing on paper, but off it they disappoint.

@Bluebell: Thank you, I actually don’t know about the system to become a professor in USA. Because the system in my country is as above:

You have to have a:
1) Bachelor degree
2) Master’s degree
3) PhD

Then you have to become an:
4) Assistant professor
5) Associate professor

And finally you’ll become a:
6) Professor

In our system it takes years and years becoming a professor. Even 10-20 years…

It would be nice to become a professor with just a PhD…

Super Cool @ 04/01/2011 at 8:19 am

@anne: I agree with you.
