Amanda Seyfried: Adopt Your Pet!

Amanda Seyfried visits a FedEx store to mail a package on Tuesday (March 29) in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old actress supported the animal rights organization PETA by wearing a t-shirt telling people to adopt animals instead of buying from breeders.

Earlier in the day, Amanda took her adorable pup Finn to The Dog House in Los Angeles for some doggie day care!

Good grief, not all breeders run puppy-mills! I’m really sick of these celebrites acting like people who want and buy pure breds must be buying from puppy mills. I love my dog more than anything. She’s happy, healthy, and we bought her from a verified breeder who treats all of her puppies well and like family. It’s not a crime to want a pure bred dog. Great if you want to adopt, it is a fantastic cause and those dogs need homes, but don’t knock people who buy from legit breeders either.

You’re right, not all breeders run puppy mills, but an overwhelming number do, and she’s bringing attention to the overall issue, which is great – many people don’t know about puppy mills period. Also, as you mentioned, whether or not the breeder you buy from runs a despicable or more caring operation, it remains that when you get a dog who was intentionally bred, you’re not rescuing a dog who’s already in existence in a shelter or in need of a home elsewhere.

I love her even more now.

It doesn’t matter if you got your dog from a breeder who doesn’t run a puppy mill. For every perfect puppy bought from a breeder, thousands of dogs are euthanized in shelters. Why buy puppies and encourage breeders to continue overbreeding when there are millions of dogs in shelters that need homes? Its incredibly selfish. The breeding business should be put on hold until every last dog in shelters gets adopted. If we continue to allow breeders to overbreed, we are just going to end up with more dogs in shelters! Thousands of beautiful, innocent animals get euthanized every year. Does that make you feel good? By buying dogs from breeders, you are increasing the demand of purebred dogs, and the breeders will continue to overbreed and many of the dogs bred will at some point end up at a shelter because most people are irresponsible owners!

Next time you buy a dog from a breeder, go to your local shelter first and look into the eyes of the dogs there. Look at the love in their eyes, and the sadness. Could you live with yourself to know that you are buying a perfect dog, and the ones you just saw at the shelter are going to be euthanized?

Thank you Amanda for wearing this shirt. ANYTIME you buy a dog from a breeder you are killing a shelter dog. There is no excuse for it. The only time it will ever be OK to buy from a breeder is when there are no dogs left with no homes. Shelters have puppies and pure breds. I’m tired of people making excuses. The shirt is very true and I love here even more for wearing this shirt.
