Reelz Talk: Turns Out Not Many People Watched “The Kennedys”
Apr 5, 2011
-
When The History Channel pulled The Kennedys from its network, you probably knew something was amiss. Judging from the reviews of the Katie Holmes-Greg Kinnear-led miniseries, the answer to why THC bailed has become more clear in the ensuing months: The Kennedys was terrible. That didn’t stop Reelz from picking it up, and debuting the story of former president John F. Kennedy on Sunday. Well, lo and behold, the last laugh went to Reelz; The Kennedys was a hit! Except it wasn’t.
-
On Monday, the network reported that a record 1.9 million people watched the debut of The Kennedys on Sunday night, a record for Reelz. About that: On Tuesday, it was revealed that only 1.3 million people tuned in to watch the miniseries, a discrepancy of nearly 30 percent. Said a Reelz spokesperson to Vulture: “The numbers we reported yesterday were fast national of average viewers per minute when we add our two showings (8 p.m. east and 8 p.m. west) together, which is the gross audience for an average minute.” Right. So it’s the ball bearings. It’s all ball bearings nowadays.
-
Needless to say, don’t expect to see Reelz trumpeting the great ratings for the remainder of the series

Reelz Fudged 'Kennedys' Rating @ 04/05/2011 at 9:32 pm

Turns out, the first two hours of ‘The Kennedys’ miniseries wasn’t the record-breaking success Reelz Channel wanted us to think it was.
-
Although the network reported an audience of 1.9 million, actual Nielsen numbers put the total at 1.3 million. That’s 30 percent lower, Vulture points out.
-
So, what does Reelz have to say about the conflicting reports? A rep told Vulture, “The numbers we reported yesterday were fast national of average viewers per minute when we add our two showings (8PM East and 8PM West) together, which is the gross audience for an average minute.”

Oooookay.

Ratings Dramatically Overstate @ 04/05/2011 at 9:58 pm

Really, Reelz? Ratings for The Kennedys Dramatically Overstated
-
Cable network Reelz made a desperate bid to “steal” some Nielsen headlines Monday.
-
The channel that bought The Kennedys when nobody else would issued a press release Monday asserting a “record” 1.9 million viewers watched Sunday’s opener. But when Nielsen issued final numbers on Tuesday, it turns out that just 1.3 million folks opted to check out the critically reviled mini. That’s nearly 30 percent fewer than the original Reelz claim;
-
what’s more, among viewers under 50, The Kennedys earned a pretty anemic 0.3 rating, putting it near the bottom of Nielsen’s top 100 cable broadcasts for the night.
-
It may be that Reelz counted anyone who even caught a minute of the show, as opposed to using the standard number issued by most real networks — i.e., the average overall audience for a show. Looks like the folks at Reelz studied at the Tricky **** School of Ratings Spin.

Is the only way you can succeed is to see Holmes fail, #7?

# 9

I like her style too!

@#5-#8
did you happen to check out the other mini series that are around, on the bigger channels…….thought not!
you are so desperate!

Gee, “Romeo,” is the only way you can succeed to live vicariously through some celebrity? Reelz lied in their press release and is now backtracking to cover themselves. That’s the truth, not an attack on you personally. Why are YOU so invested in the success of someone who doesn’t even know you’re alive?

You can dress up a hag but it’s still a hag. Like “laughing” I’m amazed of how many are “invested in the success” of Katie Holmes. She’s a zero, can’t act and is one of the worst celebrity moms in Hollywood.

I feel sorry for Katie, she no longer has a career and is trapped in a loveless marriage. I personally think she’s beautiful, maybe she’s not the sharpest crayon in the box but she’s taking it all the way to the bank. I hope she takes acting classes and has a great comeback!

‘The Kennedys’ Plummets 35% on Second Night

The third episode of the controversial miniseries – developed and then dropped by the History channel – averaged 841,000 viewers Tuesday night on ReelzChannel.
-
Interest in The Kennedys appears to be waning on ReelzChannel.
-
The third installment of the controversial miniseries – developed and then dropped by the History channel – averaged 841,000 viewers on Tuesday night, according to Nielsen data supplied by the network.
-
That’s down nearly 35 percent from Monday’s premiere, which averaged 1.3 million viewers for its two-part premiere, according to Nielsen.
-
According to a press release issued Monday, Sunday’s premiere was watched by 1.9 million viewers, the “highest ratings in the network’s five-year history.” But that number was actually the combined viewership of the premiere plus one repeat airing, said a ReelzChannel spokesperson.
-
According to final Nielsen numbers, the two-episode, two-hour premiere was watched by 1.3 million viewers.

Numbers On the Downward Trend @ 04/06/2011 at 7:25 pm

“The Kennedys” Numbers On the Downward Trend
Wednesday April 6, 2011
-
After debuting to a sizable audience, the ensuing installments of the highly-anticipated miniseries “The Kennedys” appear to quickly be losing steam.
-
The controversial made-for-TV show, which now airs on the ReelzChannel after being dropped by the History Channel, averaged just 841,000 viewers last night (April 5).
-
According to Nielsen data, that number is down nearly 35 percent from the 1.3 million viewers that the Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear starring Monday premiere drew in.
-
Still, the home of “The Kennedys” is boasting about the show’s performance, telling press it’s brought the “highest ratings in the network’s five-year history.”

Love her! What a bunch of losers, I cant believe it you waste so much time looking for info to put sb down. Like it or not The Keneedys is a hit for this chanel, and u looking for info about them is a great example. They wanted notoriety, they are certainly getting it-

Not doing well in the ratings @ 04/08/2011 at 8:54 pm

“The Borgias,” “Camelot,” “The Killing,” “The Kennedys” and, in a few weeks, the one I’m most looking forward to, “Game of Thrones” on HBO.
-
Encouragingly, all these big-ticket projects are doing well in the ratings. Well, except for “The Kennedys.” Sunday’s debut drew 1.3 million viewers on the obscure ReelzChannel. (Reelz immediately issued a misleading press release inflating that number to 1.9 million).
-
By the third night, the audience had eroded to just over 800,000.

I can see now that Katie seems to be “copying” Victoria Beckham on the “designing of fashions”…….same smirk/smiling…..and now, the same hairstyle. See the latest photos of Victoria on JJ.

ugh

@Pooter
KH has more class and grace in one finger than VB will ever have…their style has nothing in common, Katie is much more laid back, young, refreshing, natural, simple than VB.Please dont be ridicoulous….

The Kennedys is very badly acted and Katie contributed to the debacle with her stilted, over done portrayal of Jackie O. If it was a quality production then the numbers would be going up instead of down.
