Rachel Weisz: 'Oz' Evil Witch?

Rachel Weisz is currently in talks to play the evil witch in Oz: The Great and Powerful, THR reports.

The 41-year-old British actress would play Evanora, the powerful villainess who tries to rule the land.

Mila Kunis has already signed on to play Evanora’s younger sister, Theadora, while James Franco will take on the role of Oz.

The flick, directed by Sam Raimi, is expected to begin production this summer.

I love Rachel Weisz! She’s a great actress who doesn’t get enough cred

why is james franco is every movie?

They needed more of an eccentric to play the the lead. I think Franco is completely wrong for this. Kunis is a captivating beauty, and I’d watch a movie about someone flushing a toilet as long as she was in it. Weisz would make a nice addition……This site is so distracting with that huge photo of Bilson’s mug off to the left for the DVD release of that stupid movie that played in four theaters and made like $50,000 during its two week run.

Two beautiful women.

Rachel Weisz is probably the only good actor who has been cast so far in this film. Rachel is a talented and versatile actress. The jury is still out on James Franco and Mina Kinis

@r:

Rachel Weisz is the best actress working today, she’s amazing in the movie “The Whistleblower”. She will no doubt be great in this one.

depp and rdj passed on the movie. if she is wise, she will too.

@pigbearman:

Yeah there must be a reason why they couldn’t land a bigger fish with Depp and Downey Jr. each attached, or at least rumored at some point. This seems like a role tailor made for Depp.

@pigbearman:

Read the script, Rachel Weisz’s role is the best role in the movie and i’m glad she got it. Rachel has the range and talent to pull it off.

I worked with Rachel Weisz on a couple of things, she’s a great actress and a wonderful, kind human being. This is the best casting news this film has so far.

@JC: what are you 12? grow up

@llcool23:

What did I write that you find so offensive?

@Adam: James Franco is an awesome actor, you do realize that he got an Oscar norm for 127 Hours, brilliant in Howl (should have gotten an Oscar norm there), Milk, James Dean (shame, it was a TV movie otherwise, he would have won an Oscar for sure) and Pineapple Express.

@ pigbearman “why is james franco is every movie?”, anyone who can play James Dean has a free pass to be in every single movie he likes. That proves that he’s an awesome actor no questions asked (he’s hardly made any mistakes in movies).

His style in every movie is different. I have a feeling James will get another Oscar nod before this movie comes out.

Also, just because depp and rdj said no, doesn’t mean the movie will be bad. James Franco said no to Inception and ended up with a hit 127 Hours, which cancelled out him missing out on Inception (man it’s a shame he couldn’t do that too).

It seems to me that they have a very strong cast and wait and see before you judge.

I’m sure it will be a hit, Mila Kunis will sure win an Oscar sometime soon too.

They are very beautiful womens

so excited to see james and mila in this!!!!!

Well it sounds brilliant!!
I mean cant you just imagine rachel in that costume!?
I cannot wait in this movie. I am glad that these 3 underrated actors are getting the roles they deserve.

@JC: “This site is so distracting with that huge photo of Bilson’s mug off to the left for the DVD release of that stupid movie that played in four theaters and made like $50,000 during its two week run” This post has nothing to do with Rachel Bilson? How would you even know how much the movie made, I’m a fan of hers and I didn’t even know. You’re just making her more famous with bringing her name up all the time. If she bothers you THAT much, you need to find help. Fast.

Sam Raimi really wanted Hilary Swank.
but
Disney wanted Michelle Williams.
so
WHY DID RACHEL WEISZ APPEAR SUDDENLY?
She resembles neither of them!!!!!!

It’s quite a windfall for Weisz.

@WHY?:

Rachel Weisz is a fantastic actress, one of the best. I actually think she’s better choice than Swank or Williams

I am surprised because Rachel is not an actress of the types to star to such a big movie.

@Jen:

Rachel Weisz has done big movies before but she mostly does independent work, which she still does.

I didn’t say Rachel Weisz was a bad actress. In fact, Raimi has wanted Swank all the time and has fought against Disney. Everyone knows he reached a compromise in the end.
It’s no offense to Rachel.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad choice!!!!!!!!!!

@Chris:

Sounds like a personal problem.

@WHY?:

I actually think the compromise resulted in a better choice for the role in my opinion.

Hilary Swank would not have been a good choice for the role like she’s been in her last few roles. Michelle Williams is way too young for the role. Rachel Weisz is not only the right age but has the acting chops to pull it off.

how stunning Rachel is!for me she’s one of the most beautiful women in hollywood!
i think she will be great in that role because she is a good actress and it’s nice to see her in something less expected..we’ll see..

Mila Kunis and James franco in a movie together. I can’t wait they were great in The date night.

@JC:

No worries, your comment was not offensive in the slightest. The person is just a troll.

I love Rachel Weisz…..
And I agree,… these 3 actors are underrated

I love that rachel Is considering this role, I will be something completely different from what her audience is used to seeing. Kunis, I love, she is beautiful (as well as Weisz) underrated, and is showing she has range and isnt just a pretty face.
Franco I’ve always liked him, he is a great actor, and has this “I dont give a f*** about what people say” attitude, which I love!.
Though I had my doubt about him playing the wizard, he was never in my mind to play this role. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, becasue I also thought the same thing when Pineapple came out I thought he could not do comedy, but he proved me wrong.!…So hopefully he proves me wrong again!.

All Jews… meh
