  • c

  • Eulalie

Congratulations to Marion and Mr. Canet!
This baby is going to grow extremelly handsome, talented, involved & “ecologist”! :)
Oh and Marcel is a very beautiful name, whether in spelling, sound, origin and moreover it has fantastic name-bearers watching over that little boy and spurring him on to be a great person and a great ancestor for others…himself! Great choice! Lovely Francophone name, simple but classic and meaningful!

  • lennie

Congrats to the happy parents. I’m french, and I love them both. But geez Marcel is an old old old sounding name. Weird choice.

  • justme

At least it’s not an odd made up name. Marcel is not the nicest of French names but better than Bear and Bronx or some weirdo name like that.

Or Pilot Inspektor or Moroccan Scott… Marcel is a common French name, no big deal. Perhaps she named her son after the the boxer Marcel Cerdan, one of Edith Piaf’s lovers (and she played Edith Piaf, as u well know).

  • À la recherche du temps perdu

…or after the novelist Marcel Proust or Marcele Marceau

Congrats !!! Marion chose the name “Marcel” in homage to Edith Piaf’s first love, Marcel Cerdan. (La vie en rose = her biggest role= 2 Oscars = 4 BAFTA = 5 Césars = 1 Golden Globe…) In french Marcel sounds like a old name but i think it’s not a big deal :) in a few years i bet old names will be popular ^^

  • newday

They like the name and that’s the only thing that matters

  • Merson

Marion Cotillard is so beautiful and voluptuous. This incredibly gorgeous and curvaceous young woman is pure French perfection. I love her. She’s a really sweet girl.

  • Carla Titmuss

Congratulations! The need for a child at some point is stronger then anything.

Marcel is a very beautiful name, there are a lot people named Marcel in Indonesia, btw FELICITATIONS MARION AND GUILLAUME!!! :D

  • Danila

Wonderful news! Congratulations! I’m sure they will be great parents! From the first second, you feel so much love. It is a revolutionary experience. That’s the best way I can describe it. It transforms you completely, in a second. Nature is very wise and gives you nine months to prepare, but in that moment – when you see that face, you are transformed forever. Even if you have heard from all your friends and family, ‘This is what’s going to happen,’ until it happens to you, it’s hard to understand in your soul.

  • Carmen Vergara

Congratulations! I’m a new mother myself and I highly recommend having children. My hips are bigger…my breasts are bigger. I’m loving it! I feel like more of a woman now. It definitely makes me feel so much sexier than ever before.

Marion Cotillard is my favourite French actress. I have been a fan of her ever since I first saw her in A Good Year (2006). The Dark Knight Rises (2012) is one of the forthcoming films that I am most looking forward to and it is really great that she is now joining the Batman franchise for the final film in the series, especially since it is so soon after she has given birth.
Put yourself in her position. You’re pregnant with your first child. You probably want to take time off after you give birth. Are you really going to run back to work just to play a character who’s basically a red herring and give up quality time with your baby for such a role? I doubt it. This had to be a good role for someone like Cotillard to sign on.

  • Jenna

Love Marion!! She deserves to be so happy and have lots of babies. Really lovely girl. Being a mother changes you immediately. It’s hard to explain because it’s so deep. But it’s the most beautiful feeling I have ever had.

Marcel, is a regular french name and is even used in non-french speaking countries as a first name.

Glad that the kid is healthy and his parents had the common sense not to give him a stupid name, with which he will be the laughing stock of his entire classroom at school.

  • Yo-landi

As a French citizen, I’m happy they chose a real French sounding classic name. But yeah, it does sound grandpa-ish :D well, hey it’s still original !

  • Idril

Thanks for the information, but I’m french :) and I never met someone under 60 named Marcel.

  • ModestMouse

I can’t help but think of that scene in La Vie en Rose where she crazily shouts “MARCEL!”

  • anon

Congratulations. What a pretty woman Marion is and very talented.
What an exciting time for her and Guilluame.

  • Mari

Tough luck for you. I know at least 3 french guys named Marcel under the age of 30, since my father’s family is from France. :P ;) Maybe it depends where you come from (in France).

And in Germany it had been very popular in the early 80s as well.

Even if it was oldfashioned. It is way better than Morrocan, Bear Blue, Sparrow and whatever seems to be in fashion nowadays. At least with Marcel you know it is a human being and not a pet or a plushy.

  • Mal~Cobb

Marcel is an old name in France, but well, that’s a beautiful reference to Piaf!! Congratulations, Marion & Guillaume I love you so muuch !! ♥3

  • gig

great name, sounds old fashioned which i adore.

  • Holic

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, yeah, enfin ! Félicitations à eux deux ! :D
Il était temps. Ils forment un couple magnifique, yay.

    ( Congrats ! haha. )

  • Nana

I’m sorry but Marcel IS an old name in France (and Belgium). I think most french speakers would considerate it… plain ugly (really)! But I understand it might sound exotic and “chic” for non french speakers!

  • Finanas

Geez guys ! Stop putting the thumb down when the French people say it’s an old-fashion name in France ! C’mon, we know better than you about that… but it’s like everything, the “fashionable” names in the 20′s are back so.. why not Marcel :)
Anyway : Félicitations aux parents ;)
