It’s not just his former teammate – they’re best friends. They were each others best man at their weddings. However I find it unbelievable that LA Galaxy let him play in this match – a friendly, when they are still playing in the league. It’s obvious that David just gets to show up when he wants.v He earns so much maybe he should actually shows he ‘s worth it.

Although it was quite funny that no-one in the UK actually caredthat Becks was back in a Man Utd shirt. Ryan Giggs stole his thunder, just like he did when they were playing together at Man Utd. He had to leave to get the attention he wanted.

  • mi

#12 is actually ill-informed, silly and childish. This was a tribute to Gary Neville, who has retired.

Ryan Giggs is a great servant and Man United legend. He was substituted after 30 minutes so I really do not know what you are talking about.

The crowd cheered David the entire game. When he stepped up to take a free-kick, the crowd went wild and there were chants of “There is only one David Beckham”.

David Beckham was already outshining Ryan Giggs way back in 1996/97! He had a better season than Giggs and was Manchester United Player of the Season winning the fans’ # 1 award, Matt Busby Award BEFORE Ryan Giggs himself ever did ( and Giggs is nearly two years older than Becks). In addition, David was Premiership Young Player of the Year. He was a fan favourite back then at just 21 years old and already a popular Premiership player. He did not have to go anywhere to get the attention. He already had it!! He was already an England international. He succeeded Cantona wearing the Famous #7 shirt because he earned it and because of his popularity with the fans!! The fans loved him ever since he established himself and his name in the first team.

David Beckham IS A MAN UNITED LEGEND, as the class of ’92 all are. YOU cannot take that away from him, try as you may. Stop hating!!

    Dashing David! Beautiful!!

I know it was a tribute to Gary Neville – my point is that David should not have been there – he is under contract to LA Galaxy , he should have been playing for them. Testimonials are out dated – they used to be for retiring players to get one last pay-day to provide for their family as they would no longer have the steady income. ]

And David Beckham may have got the popularity, but there are very few REAL Man Utd fans who actually think he was a better player than Giggs. I should know, I’m unfortunately surrounded by them at work. Giggs could actually dribble past a player, he could do more than score an awesome free kick and cross the ball.

Just look at the facts – David’s playing in a mickey-mouse league, Giggs is going to be playing in the Champions league final, which is without doubt, the biggest club game in the world. And as you said, Ryan’s 2 years older. David crave the limelight, Ryan craved the ball. He will always be the better player. David would struggle to make the bench of Man Utd now.

And I’m really sad to see Neville retire. Bar his indiscretion at the liverpool game, a really good guy.

  • mi

The Galaxy/Bruce Arena clearly gave him permission to attend so I do not know what your point is! This has nothing to do with him under contract or not!

This is not a discussion about who the ‘better’ player was. Giggs is a
great player, a one club man with longevity.
I said David had a better season and was already outshining Ryan Giggs and getting all this media attention over and above his peers in 1996/97 SOLELY ON HIS OWN MERIT AND TALENT AS A FOOTBALLER. He stood out because of his spectacular goals and they won games for United.

Ryan Giggs only started 13 or so League games last season and the season before.. He has been playing regularly now but that is because Alex Ferguson knows how to use him. He has had long stretches of poor form and periods when United fans have booed him!! and have said it was time for him to leave the club because he just was not in form or not performing. And I am sure there have been fall outs with Fergie but he never got a boot kicked to his head or was constantly blamed for the faults of others. In the same Arsenal game, Giggs missed a wide open goal and David was the one who got a boot to his head and the blame!

David may be playing in a Mickey Mouse League now but everyone knows he was a great player for United and his departure was premature with all the controversy surrounding that and not based on his football ability.
In David’s time at United he created more goals/ assists than any of his peers at United and l I think David still has the highest goal assist ratio per game than any other Premiership player!! He was cheered by the United fans at Old trafford when he returned with AC Milan last year. He is remembered as a legend and was is aand will always be popular because he served the club well. He has his United medals and INDIVIDUAL HONOURS and he has his La Liga medal as well!!!l

One more thing. Ryan Giggs has never been to an international tournament. He could not even help Wales qualify ONCE even though he got the chance. David has served his country captaining England 59 times and singlehandedly took them to the World Cup in 2002 and has scored in three successive World Cups. That is not craving the limelight, That is dedication and talent on display which gets him in the limelight and that is how it started with him at United!!!.

  • Allie

He should not have asked for the time off – he should be dedicated to LA Galaxy – my opinion.

And wow, you are seriously deluded if you are comparing Wales to England. Ryan Giggs was the only world class player in Wales. David Beckham did not single-handedly lead ENgland to the World cup in 2002. He scored crucial goals. But put him in a team of nobodies and you will not see the same results. I think Beckham is seriously overrated. Giggs was a better player than him when they were both in their prime and now, Gerrard and lampard were better midfielders than him. And lets be honest, he never wanted to leave United. If he was more dedicated, then Fergie wouldn’t have wanted to let him go. All players should know by now, there is only one winner – the player always leaves and Man Utd go on and win more trophy’s. Beckham, Ronaldo, Jaap Stam, the list goes on.

And if you think Beckham doesn’t crave the limelight – sorry, I can’t finish as I’m rolling on the floor laughing.!!

  • mi

Bruce Arena could have refused to give him the time off – my opinion.. He chose to give him permission.

I am not comparing Wales to England. You mentoned David’s popularity as opposed to Ryan Giggs. The fact that David is English is a main factor that contributes to his popularity and why he was already the subject of more media interest back in 1996/97 as he was already called up to the England squad.

Giggs’ influence on Wales was minimal in proportion to his contribution as a player for United. He had enough quality teammates like John Hartson and Gary Speed et al and he himself had many chances, for example, when they played at home in the play-off against Russia to get to the Euro 2004 finals but he failed to do anything special and just could not rise to the occasion to get the one goal they needed to qualify.

Without David, England would not have qualified for World Cup 2002. He was the most influential player in the qualifying campaign scoring and creating goals and this accounts for his popularity to this day.

Great that United is still winning trophies. I am sure David LOVES IT. David Beckham celebrated and lifted his Spanish La Liga trophy as a Real Madrid player in 2007!!

Keep following David around. The more you talk about him ,especially when you display such ignorance, is the more he will be in demand, discussed and the more popular he will be. He is a England and United legend!

LOL!!! One is based on facts and one is based on heresay and their own unproven opinion, it’s even incorrect! It’s clear who is the winner here… It’s Mi 3 and Allie 0!!! Hahahaha…you should just shut up Allie after Mi here gave you, us, the basic facts like that!
