Alexander Skarsgard Covers 'Interview' June 2011

Alexander Skarsgard is seriously sexy on the cover of Interview magazine’s June 2011 issue.

Here’s what the 34-year-old True Blood actor had to share with Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler, who interviewed him for the mag:

On not wanting to only play Eric: “I do get a lot of scripts sent to me where they basically want me to play Eric from True Blood, but just a different name in a different movie. That’s not interesting to me. I don’t want to play a character that I’ve played for four years on a television show, change the name, and make him a zombie instead of a vampire.”

On connecting with the characters he plays: “In a weird way, I always play myself, just through different mirrors. If I read a script and I don’t connect with a character, if I can’t find the character on the page in my soul, then I’m not going to be able to do a good job.”

On what kinds of roles he craves: “There’s got to be something new, something fresh. I want to almost be intimidated when I embark on a journey. I wouldn’t say there’s a fear, but I do get slightly nervous in the beginning when that happens, and I like that feeling. That triggers me a lot.”

  • flowt46

Loved him when his hair was longer on TrueBlood and he and Pam levitated when they walked in first season.

Enjoyed him ..love watching him on screen…just wish I knew nothing about his personal life with KB…it distracts from his coolness.

  • Willa

Can’t stand this guy. He comes off as so self-centered and conceited in all his interviews.

  • Camille

Alex looks amazing! I love that they made him all wet. ROWR! That’s a serious stare down. I think he’s trying to melt the panties off ever girl who looks at this magazine. He’s doing a good job.

    @Canuck:

LOL I think it will work for lots of folks, both men and women.

  • seeshay

wow. Love this cover. Such a different approach compared to GQ. This one is almost surreal. But sexy as …

  • Toots

Wow! Awesome cover shot! He did just confirm my thoughts about how he plays the Eric character more to be like himself. I wouldn’t want to play the same character over and over, either, if I were an actor. I can see that he would enjoy the challenge of tackling new and complex characters. I hope that he has a good selection of parts to choose from!

  • Canuck

    @Camille: Fangtasia’s dungeon theme?

  • lafamepoma

I dunno how is pronounced the “a” with the circle, I know tht “j” is pronounced like a “e” his sister is called Eija but is pronounce “eiia”

  • Tanter

How anyone cannot drool over this man is a bit of a mystery to me. YUM!

  • BigJohnson

Now that is a cover, Kate Bosworth must be so proud.

  • Glenda

Skars looks good. Ya’ll are some passionate women the Skarsgard threads are the best!

  • Canuck

@BigJohnson: Or possibly crying into her pillow, since they haven’t been seen together for quite a while now!

  • Canuck

@Glenda: I’m surprised that with very hot men like this, Sweden ever gets snow! They should have palm trees growing in Stockholm, LOL

  • SKARSGARD LOVE TO PLAY RAPISTS

“I always play myself, just through different mirrors.”
ew… he has played a RAPIST many times!

  • SKARSGARD LOVE TO PLAY RAPISTS

And Canuck, Camille and ladybug say…

  • SKARSGARD ♥ TO PLAY RAPISTS

“I always play myself, just through different mirrors.”
ew… he has played a RAPIST many times!

  • Canuck
  • Rachel()

@SKARSGARD LOVE TO PLAY RAPISTS: I noticed that as well, but I like to think that AS doesn’t revel in the torture and degradation of women so…I think he meant that he can relate to aspects of his character’s personality and life, and not that he understands their actions. Rapists are human beings, just severely f’d up humans. I think he could just relate to some human parts of them, but not the violent parts. Lots of actors play rapists, without wanting to be one in real life. Give him a break.

  • Canuck

@SKARSGARD ♥ TO PLAY RAPISTS: So, does this mean you actually think he’s a vampire? He’s played one of those too.

  • Sarah

@Canuck: in TB he play a viking cold man..so he play himself (except fangs)

  • Canuck

@Sarah: He’s not that cold as we’ve seen in the last season. If you have read the books, you’d see that he’s not cold at all in reality. Hiding behind a facade would be more accurate.

  • Sarah

and don’t forget Generation Kill! He has a military service in Sweden…so again in generation kill he plays himself

  • heartless

    YUM. That is all.

  • Canuck

@Sarah: Mandatory military service in Sweden is nothing like playing a soldier in Iraq. He also played a transvestite in one film, are you suggesting that he is one? He played a completely dorky stupid male model in Zoolander, yet he’s far from stupid and has never been a male model. I believe he also played a doctor on one film, but I’m pretty sure he’s never been to medical school. For that matter, he plays a redneck from Louisiana in Straw Dogs, yet he’s Swedish.

  • Sarah

he’s not a versatile actor…he plays always the same character.Battleship is another example

  • Canuck

@Canuck: By the way, this comment was directed at the poster, not AS.

  • Canuck

@Sarah: Ah, and you’ve seen it, right?

  • erin

IT SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW TO LOOK LIKE THAT :) SO FINE! LOVE HIM :)

  • Sarah

@Canuck: he played a transvestite—>gay scene from TB and all gay rumors that he has, he plays rapists 3 time, and bastard boyfriend ( he went in hollywood because in Sweden he plays always the same character…a bastard boyfriend)

  • GreenCAT

    Hotness!!

  • Bikini Kill

Dude is f*ckin sex personified. Point, blank, simple.

  • Canuck

@Sarah: I’m absolutely positive that when he signed up for TB, that scene hadn’t been written nor conceived. Plus, it’s highly unlikely that a gay man who is trying to hide it would take a part playing someone who is a gay man. So nice try, no dice…

Btw, as you can see from this interview, he’s doing his best to NOT be typecast. At the same time, I’m pretty sure that the opportunities to make films in Sweden are maybe a lot more limited than they are in HW and the range of parts available to him were less.

  • Canuck

@erin: It should be against the law not to. ;))
