Impressive! I did some French at school, but have forgotten most of it. I could pick up that he was saying he learned to speak it fluently while at University and due to having French family members at the beginning, but quickly got lost.

the French language sounds sooo chic and sexy!!
I don’t like my native Portuguese as much as I like English or French…

    Mlef Says:

i’mench and I know that for a year at least…

Maybe if you try to take care of what are (american) artists, actors etc…instead of just showing them going out of the doctor’s office…

For some reason, when he’s speaking French it makes him look very sexy to me. Impressive. I thought I was going to hear an American speaking French with an American accent, but he sounds like a native.

    Cécile Says:

Quite good really. I’m impressed he hasn’t forgoten all of it. His accent is alright, he’s just swallowing words sometimes.
I did the same kind of program he did, in the US, it’s the only way to really learn a language. It’s unfortunate how fast it goes away once you stop practicing. English is everywhere so it’s easy for me to hear it everyday and yet now I sometimes have to search for my words, hesitate with the grammar..

So he can speak French. Big deal and good for him. However, it’s not like he found the cure for cancer. People are reporting this like it’s earth shattering news.

@minty fresh. you sound insecure. i dont see people running out with this news, its just a fun tadbit about brad.

i think its refreshing when american celebrities speak another language because you see so many hollywood celebrities who look so stupid and uncultured having translators when they go promoting overseas. where as you see most foreign actors actually promoting in english.

I’m inpressed, I had no idea that Bradley Cooper speaks French – and as some of you I was expecting a heavy American accent, but his accent is actually quite good. I could understand almost everything (I’m not a native French speaker)!

    Very sexy.

Many Americans, believe it or not speak French. We are very discreet about it (like Bradley) until we go to a French speaking country.

    Jo Says:

I’m french and he did good, not like an american speaking in french with some weird accent. Sounds like he translates every phrases and english expressions (“you know” at the end of one sentence made me smile) which do not well in french but you know, but yeah he’s fluent he wasn’t looking for words when he spoke, good for him :)

  29. 29
    Lucky Charm Says:

My high school French is rusty and limited now, since I haven’t used it for years. After listening to this interview, I’m determined to pick it up and start practicing/speaking it again! It’s quite impressive to be fluent bi-lingual or multi-lingual.

I wish I could watch a double feature of The Bridesmaids and Hangover 2. This is June and the wedding month, lol.

    Kisa Says:

    I understood him!!!!

He speaks at a civilized pace so that even a casual speaker can understand.

A group of us will be going to Quebec City and Montreal in Canada next month. We understand and speak French but were told that the Quebecois accent is completely different. That is sounds like ” New Orleans French with a New York City accent”. I don’t understand. Will we have difficulty understanding the locals?

I am french, and yeah, I can say that he speaks french very well ! He understands everything, just wow. And his accent is so sexy !!! Love it !
His pronunciation of the ” R “, which is completely different (than english), is PERFECT ! Most of the time, when I hear english people talking french, this is the big mistake…
And plus, a lot of english natives say that french is very difficult to learn, so again, bravo Bradley !

I’m from Montreal and yes our accent is different. However, most people in MOntreal have kind of an international accent and you can easily be answered in english (though french canadian like when people make the effort to sepeak french). In Quebec however, the accent is more marked. You should get used to it even if the first sentences might sound a little weird to you. Go listen to a video on youtube to see if you understand it could give you an idea of the accent.

UAU he speaks French very well, is strange to hear an American person another language that isn’t English, dunno they’re like : everybody speaks English, so why we have to study another language. But speaking another laguages is good. Spanish, Italian, French, German are good ones.

  56. 56
    Paname Says:

Very impressive. As a french girl I always thought foreign accents really sexy. From a french point of view, this interview was quite fun : his french is quite informal and we are not use to hear someone says words like “mec” at TV news. Even more charming.

I was really impressed , no offense but most of americans don’t make any effort when they promote overseas , they’re all like ” bonjour comment ça va ” annd … that’s it ! Pretty good accent , you go brad !

PS : Il est encore plus sexy lorsqu’il parle français héhé !

    Cammy Says:

What’s so cool is that when he didn’t understand what the reporter was asking him at one point, he didn’t try to bluff his way like he knew. He just responded that he didn’t understand what she meant with her question. Very good, confident and unpretentious.

    French in the United States

    From Wikipedia

The census response “Cajun” and French-based creole languages are not included

The French language is spoken as a minority language in the United States. According to year 2000 census figures, 1.6 million Americans over the age of five speak the language at home; making French the fourth most-spoken language in the country, behind English, Spanish, and Chinese (when both the Cantonese and Mandarin dialects are combined).More than 13 million Americans claim some French ancestry

French-speaking communities have historically been located in southern Louisiana and in northern New England. French is the second most-spoken language in four states: Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

    witchy Says:

hummmm he speaks really well french but no he doesn’t sound like a native at all. He still sounds american, which is normal cause he is…
I think it’s very very hard to get rid of your native accent.
But he really does speak french very well.

  67. 67
    anon Says:

the most important thing is to speak intelligently and not to completely get rid of your accent. Native French people here (United States) speak English very well but with a French accent. We don’t citicise that. That makes you more interesting. Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche they speak English pretty well but with an accent that sounds like sirop miel to me.

Here’s another talking with a sirop miel accent but speaking very well, Olivier Martinez:

    Audrey Says:

this isn’t the fact that he actually can speak french that impressed me but that, as an American actor he did it during the whole interview, on the French most important channel which is utterly unusual.
