Tina Fey: Tracy Morgan's Homophobic Rant was 'Disturbing'

Tina Fey has responded to her 30 Rock co-star Tracy Morgan‘s homophobic rant that took place at a comedy show in Nashville last week.

The 41-year-old actress and writer told E! Online in a statement, “The violent imagery of Tracy‘s rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community.”

Tina says his rant “doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person…I hope for his sake that Tracy‘s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers on 30 Rock, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket.”

According to the New York Times, Tracy released this statement: “I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

30 Rock co-star Cheyenne Jackson also responded, telling Out, “I am disgusted and appalled by [his] homophobic rant. The devastating repercussions of hate-filled language manifest in very real ways for today’s LGBTQ youth. I’ve known Tracy for two years, sent many long hours with him on set, and I want to believe that this behavior is not at the core of who he is. I’m incredibly disappointed by his actions, and hope that his apology is sincere.”

at least she didn’t back him up
now you need to fire him and we’re gonna be friends again, dear tina
i honestly didn’t buy his apology, looks totally fabricated by his PR people…he’s been a douche for a long time – this hate isnt exactly surprising

>>>but his sexist rant was not too bad<<<<

# 3

Just when u thought u couldn’t love Tina Fey any more!!.

This has definitely gotten out of hand. What he said may have been wrong on some level, but why is everyone surprised? This what comedians do. They take unnecessary jabs at issues that could never be funny. He is definitely not the first, and will not be the last- it’s just has he has developed a whole other persona aside from his urban/comedy side– he established himself as apart of the “Hollywood” scene, and became more respected. Only reason why everyone is getting upset about it. And I bet you he had every person in that room laughing their asses off.

This is unfortunate, but I mean… what can we do? These kind of “rants” have been happening for years.

At least it was a real apology and not one of those “If I offended you” non-apologies that so many celebrities tend to give.

@jasmine: So you have personally spoken to the parents of EVERY homosexual to determine that NONE of them are happy? (BTW, it’s “There aren’t” noy ‘they’re aren’t”)

# 7

@jasmine:

Not true. My brother is gay, and my parents love him unconditionally, and are very happy.

Also, why does it matter that Morgan supports Obama? Should all Obama supporters be chastised because of one person?

She is an absolute genius.

Even though what he did was wrong, I can’t help but to feel sorry for Tracy. He is obviously extremely uneducated. I mean, who says stuff like that without expecting consequences? Anyway, I really hope he gets his head together. What he said was disgusting, and I don’t see how anyone could find humor in it. I’m glad Tina Fey said something about it.

I love your work Tina Fey and I love 30 Rock but I cannot watch again until Mr. Jordan is removed from the cast. Life is so difficult for so many people in this WORLD of ours, to spread more hate is unforgiveable. PEACE and BLESSINGS to you. your family and especially to the good health of the new baby.

he’s an ignorant thug – fire him.

F this PC world we live in! It’s jokes losers!

so from what i see here, everyone in this thread are gay?

@d: not necessarily. Perhaps they’re just tolerant and not homophobic and close-minded as you seem to be. Any idea of what this means?

@JC:

There aren’t noy, thanks for the corrections, you be really smart.

Tina Fey is the COOLEST. Standing up for what is right instead of defending her idiot co-star.

@jasmine:

Your hate speech and use of that word is very offensive. I feel sorry for you; you are clearly a close minded individual who doesn’t have the PRIVILEGE of knowing any amazing gay or lesbian people.

@jasmine: Actually, among my father’s social set, everyone was VERY jealous when he was able to announce he had a lesbian daughter and that he was going to be giving her away at their gay wedding! It’s totally a mark of coolness among my parents’ friends (aged 65+) to have an ‘alternative lifestyle’ kid. Don’t assume that your tiny little world is all there is.

I’m sorry but “better talk to me like a man and not in a gay voice or I’ll pull out a knife and stab that little n*gger to death” speaking about his child, is not something that is a spur of the moment that takes you too far. That is downright hateful, purposeful and unapologetic. Stand up comedians have a plan, they make an outline of what they will speak about. If no one called him on it, he would never have apologized. And he probably knows a thing or two about discrimination as we all do, maybe he for the color of his skin, me for my education, you for your marriage choice. Whatever. He lost my respect and won’t get it back, no matter the community service or apologies he makes. Discrimination is a pattern not a hiccup. And I’m not even gay.

Oh and also, being a d*ck is a choice, Tracy. You should know something about choice. Stick that up your ass.

Well, I’m not a lesbian, but I’d love to have a gay son or a lesbian daughter! Just sayin’…

What exactly did he say?

@Wow:

Just harmless comedy? Tell that to the gay kids whose parents beat, abuse and kill every year. He is a dumb bigot and is only “sorry” he got caught.

I just signed a petition to NBC to fire him: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/firetracymorgan

Took two minutes to actually do something to help.

@Cassie: did i hit a nerve lesbo

now that is funny, the pot calling the kettle black HA HA , like your opinion matters Fey, you are right up on top of the skum heap so just SHUT IT!!!
