Sophia Bush Covers 'Zooey' Magazine June/July 2011
Sophia Bush graces the cover of Zooey magazine’s June/July 2011 issue.
Here’s what the 28-year-old actress had to share:
On always being passionate about activism: “It’s funny. As a kid, I asked my mom if I could start a beach clean up on Saturdays with my friends. She said, ‘Well, Sweetheart, I don’t think many six-year-olds are going to want to go to the beach and pick up trash on Saturday.’ But, I was very gung ho about the whole thing. Causes and social issues have always really registered with me.”
On doing the right thing: “I think I’ve always had a very clear idea of what’s right and wrong. And a very clear sense that we should always try to do the right thing, even when it’s not the easy thing. It’s something that I think baffled my parents at moments, but they’ve been really supportive, too. They’ve given me an exceptional education, from the time that I was a little girl.”

sooo nice!
Love the video. So pretty. Does anyone have the article?
It’s not that I don’t like all of her activism, because some of the things she does is really cool. It’s just she preaches so much about doing this and that, I feel like she can’t just have a normal conversation without bringing something related to activism up. There are other things to talk about. But I am not saying everything is bad, she just needs to dial it down a little.
She’s gorgeous! Look what u missed Chad! :D

She is so beautiful and talented!!
I wish she got the professional recognition that she deserves.
I’ve never actually seen her do any activist things, just heard her talk about how much she loves being an activist.
This post should be titled “How I Almost Started A Beach Clean Up.” It’d go well with “How I Almost Went To Afghanistan.”

Thanks for posting great things like this, JJ! I had no idea that Sophia Bush was such an activist until not too long ago and I keep reading more and more about her activism – so cool! I’d never heard about Zooey Magazine either and now I’ll need to look into it. Also, thanks for the video which made me re-listen to the new Death Cab for Cutie album.. really liking this song!
She looks so beautiful with her hair down and “natural” makeup. I don’t know why she insists on pulling her hair up at premieres and events.
Also, she had the beginnings of a thriving movie career in 2007, what happened?
@yep: WTF?

love Sophia. so glad JustJared is promoting a young actress that is trying to give back and set a good example.
@Happy_Evil_Dude: SHE SUCKS AT ACTING. thats what happened.. After she got kicked off terminator 3 for not being able to act Casting Directors stayed far away.. true story. Contrary to many little fans beliefs she did not in fact “look to young” that is decided before they are called for an interview.
I used to love her so much, now i just find her plain boring and really arrogant, she’s always “i do this, i think that, this is right, that is wrong”.
Can you just focus on your inexistant career please, you’re so talented what a waste, you should just leave this dead show and do more movies.
Go ahead thumb me down :)
I think she’s really pretty and I like that she’s trying to be a better person. It’s a refreshing thing to see from a celebrity.
@Amanda
Get the whole story. She shot on Terminator 3 but the director felt she was too young for the role and re-cast her. It had nothing to do with her talent. She was 19 at the time and the director thought someone in their 20s would be more believable.
I just adore Sophia. She is a stunning woman and immensely talented. I really respect how passionate Sophia is about equal rights and the environment. In a generation where most girls her age care more about trivial things and their own vanity, she’s really trying to make a difference.
It sounds like she means well but she comes off as very self-praising. She always in some way or the other self-praises herself in interviews and it’s just not becoming on anybody.
@Dasha: I understand that u want get to do more than OTH because like u said, she IS talented but she’s too damn loyal to the show. And I know some people on set have said that Sophia has missed out on some great other opportunities due to the OTH schedule. However, with the network refusing to cancel OTH and the actors’ contracts, they’ve been coming every year. Thank God, this is officially the last year.
And I for one like the fact that Sophia talks so passionately about the environment. And I’ve noticed a lot over the past few months that by Sophia actually talking a lit about all of the things she does has only encouraged many others to step forward and start making changes for the better as well. Face it, we live in a world where our feelings and actions are heavily influenced by the actions and thoughts if others. However, if it’s doing mire good then bad and making the world a better place, then why nit. More power to her and everyone else who gets in on the action.
You’re right, it sounds like quite a few of them have missed opportunities. I don’t know about the others but I do know that Bethany Joy missed a Broadway opportunity and Chad missed a movie in Season 5. I’m glad it’s ending too. Time to move on.
Hags go away.
Joy has done nothing for eight years except OTH. I guess Joy is a loser too. Stop being so rude.
@Amanda:
Wow, you REALLY are a moron. I really think haters should start getting their so called “facts” straight because everytime they open up their fat mouths, I along with countless others are always so shocked and mortified at their stupidity.
Sophia was NEVER booted from Transformers 3 due to her skills. The director HIMSELF said(even though he didn’t need to say this at all) that he really wanted her for the part which is why he got her on the film. However, as they began filming, they started to realize more and more that Sophia came across entirely way too young on camera. Which is why the part went to Claire Dane instead because for the role, they needed a woman who looked fierce and tough. However, during that time, (and if we all go back to season 1 and look at Sophia then), we can all agree that Sophia literally looked like a teenager. She wouldn’t have been able to pull off that role while looking so incredibly young. Which is why they had to replace her, even though they DIDN’T want too.
So get your sh*t together.
@Amanda: Um, Terminator 3 was in 2003, and I was talking 2007. I guess casting directors didn’t stay away did they?
