Sophia Bush Covers 'Zooey' Magazine June/July 2011

Sophia Bush graces the cover of Zooey magazine’s June/July 2011 issue.

Here’s what the 28-year-old actress had to share:

On always being passionate about activism: “It’s funny. As a kid, I asked my mom if I could start a beach clean up on Saturdays with my friends. She said, ‘Well, Sweetheart, I don’t think many six-year-olds are going to want to go to the beach and pick up trash on Saturday.’ But, I was very gung ho about the whole thing. Causes and social issues have always really registered with me.”

On doing the right thing: “I think I’ve always had a very clear idea of what’s right and wrong. And a very clear sense that we should always try to do the right thing, even when it’s not the easy thing. It’s something that I think baffled my parents at moments, but they’ve been really supportive, too. They’ve given me an exceptional education, from the time that I was a little girl.”

    sooo nice!

Love the video. So pretty. Does anyone have the article?

  • Lindley

It’s not that I don’t like all of her activism, because some of the things she does is really cool. It’s just she preaches so much about doing this and that, I feel like she can’t just have a normal conversation without bringing something related to activism up. There are other things to talk about. But I am not saying everything is bad, she just needs to dial it down a little.

  • Jay

She’s gorgeous! Look what u missed Chad! :D

  • yep

    shes kissing Satan

  • Wes

She is so beautiful and talented!!
I wish she got the professional recognition that she deserves.

  • Sadie

I’ve never actually seen her do any activist things, just heard her talk about how much she loves being an activist.

  • Sadie

This post should be titled “How I Almost Started A Beach Clean Up.” It’d go well with “How I Almost Went To Afghanistan.”

I do not find this woman to be the least bit attractive..

Thanks for posting great things like this, JJ! I had no idea that Sophia Bush was such an activist until not too long ago and I keep reading more and more about her activism – so cool! I’d never heard about Zooey Magazine either and now I’ll need to look into it. Also, thanks for the video which made me re-listen to the new Death Cab for Cutie album.. really liking this song!

  • Happy_Evil_Dude

She looks so beautiful with her hair down and “natural” makeup. I don’t know why she insists on pulling her hair up at premieres and events.

Also, she had the beginnings of a thriving movie career in 2007, what happened?

    @yep: WTF?

  • http://@IAmRobertHolik Robert Holik

Sophia Bush is just one of those people you keep seeing on this site though she’s never in a movie or in any upcoming project… “One Tree Hill” has been dead for a time now…

  • Anonymous

love Sophia. so glad JustJared is promoting a young actress that is trying to give back and set a good example.

  • Amanda

@Happy_Evil_Dude: SHE SUCKS AT ACTING. thats what happened.. After she got kicked off terminator 3 for not being able to act Casting Directors stayed far away.. true story. Contrary to many little fans beliefs she did not in fact “look to young” that is decided before they are called for an interview.

  • Dasha

I used to love her so much, now i just find her plain boring and really arrogant, she’s always “i do this, i think that, this is right, that is wrong”.
Can you just focus on your inexistant career please, you’re so talented what a waste, you should just leave this dead show and do more movies.
Go ahead thumb me down :)

  • Good

I think she’s really pretty and I like that she’s trying to be a better person. It’s a refreshing thing to see from a celebrity.

  • Captain

Get the whole story. She shot on Terminator 3 but the director felt she was too young for the role and re-cast her. It had nothing to do with her talent. She was 19 at the time and the director thought someone in their 20s would be more believable.

I just adore Sophia. She is a stunning woman and immensely talented. I really respect how passionate Sophia is about equal rights and the environment. In a generation where most girls her age care more about trivial things and their own vanity, she’s really trying to make a difference.

  • um

It sounds like she means well but she comes off as very self-praising. She always in some way or the other self-praises herself in interviews and it’s just not becoming on anybody.

  • Carrie

@Dasha: I understand that u want get to do more than OTH because like u said, she IS talented but she’s too damn loyal to the show. And I know some people on set have said that Sophia has missed out on some great other opportunities due to the OTH schedule. However, with the network refusing to cancel OTH and the actors’ contracts, they’ve been coming every year. Thank God, this is officially the last year.
And I for one like the fact that Sophia talks so passionately about the environment. And I’ve noticed a lot over the past few months that by Sophia actually talking a lit about all of the things she does has only encouraged many others to step forward and start making changes for the better as well. Face it, we live in a world where our feelings and actions are heavily influenced by the actions and thoughts if others. However, if it’s doing mire good then bad and making the world a better place, then why nit. More power to her and everyone else who gets in on the action.

  • um

You’re right, it sounds like quite a few of them have missed opportunities. I don’t know about the others but I do know that Bethany Joy missed a Broadway opportunity and Chad missed a movie in Season 5. I’m glad it’s ending too. Time to move on.

  • Terri

    Hags go away.
Joy has done nothing for eight years except OTH. I guess Joy is a loser too. Stop being so rude.

  • Misha

Wow, you REALLY are a moron. I really think haters should start getting their so called “facts” straight because everytime they open up their fat mouths, I along with countless others are always so shocked and mortified at their stupidity.
Sophia was NEVER booted from Transformers 3 due to her skills. The director HIMSELF said(even though he didn’t need to say this at all) that he really wanted her for the part which is why he got her on the film. However, as they began filming, they started to realize more and more that Sophia came across entirely way too young on camera. Which is why the part went to Claire Dane instead because for the role, they needed a woman who looked fierce and tough. However, during that time, (and if we all go back to season 1 and look at Sophia then), we can all agree that Sophia literally looked like a teenager. She wouldn’t have been able to pull off that role while looking so incredibly young. Which is why they had to replace her, even though they DIDN’T want too.
    So get your sh*t together.

  • Happy_Evil_Dude

@Amanda: Um, Terminator 3 was in 2003, and I was talking 2007. I guess casting directors didn’t stay away did they?

  • um

I can’t believe I forgot to say how beautiful Sophia Bush looks in this cover. I think is my favorite yet. I must ask though, @Terri why bring Joy and her career into this? What she does or doesn’t do has nothing to do with Sophia Bush. That is ridiculous. People should support what they do instead of being hateful.

  • Mary

^I agree with your portion about Sophia. But what Terri said was correct too. I know some of Joy’s fans have a tendency to be hateful towards other OTH actors for no reason at all. Terri was just making a point.
Any ways, this cover is beautiful and Sophia looks gorgeous as always!

  • B

I think @Um said it the best. She’s always self praising which is really unattractive on anyone. I think she’s doing great things and raising awareness but it is possible to do that without acting like a saint.

But what has been really annoying me lately is how she says her plan was to become a neurosurgeon, wasn’t she studying Journalism? Interviews before 2010 she always claimed that was her goal and now she’s turned around and all of a sudden said she’d be a nuerosurgeon if she wasn’t an actor? Sorry honey, I don’t think so.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone legit say a mean thing about her so I can’t judge, maybe she is mother theressa?

  • Vanessa

Bethany joy galeotti is not a loser she a talented actress and singer what is so wrong with Sophia and the rest of the cast of one tree hill being loyal to their fans and show?

  • Baci

If you call writing a musical and starting a new band, Everly, with composing her own music and getting married and having a baby nothing, then I guess your right Joy did nothing. Oh and Joy also does a lot of work for charity and a hundred other celebrities too!

Her acting career never took off so now she needs to get attention by her activism!!! Wannabe princess!

  • Sarah

Well if you bothered paying any close attention, you’d know that she did indeed want to be a doctor. Since she was a child, she dreamed of going to medical school and becoming a doctor. However, in college she started to really get a feel and passion for journalism and even considered going into that instead, or maybe even becoming a doctor while also writing on the side. Don’t know why you don’t think she couldn’t have done both especially seeing as how my father is a heart surgeon AND a professor at Boston University.
And to further prove it, she never even wanted to be an actress and only fell into acting when she was forced to take a drama class as a requirement in order to graduate.
    Things chance, plans change.
    Its called life.

  • Mel

Looks who’s back. Another Sophia post and the obsessive stalker comes running.
PS……take your Joy mantra and go preach it elsewhere. And I have absolutely nothing against Joy but last time I checked, billions of women throughout history have married and have become mothers, so nothing special there.
And if the day comes that her band ever wins a Grammy, we’ll talk. Because last time I checked, everyone in Hollywood is supposedly a singer in a band these days. So again, nothing special there again.

  • Baci

Mel aka Sophia…….I knew I’d get you worked up again and coming out of the wood work!!!! Stalker!!

At least Joy has real talents other than dating her co-stars!

  • Baci

Oh and let me add Mel……at least Joy is able to keep her husband for longer than 5 months!! LOL!!

  • Mel

    Awww, aren’t you funny. NOT.
See Joy lucked out in the husband department because UNLIKE Chad, Michael actually knows how to keep his penis in his pants and not run around flirting and sleeping with everything in a skirt. A habit, according to some, that he still apparently has.
Second, I was never in the woods you idiot. I was here all along. I thought you’d know by now that I’m a Sophia fan so when there is a new article about her, regardless, of what site it is on, I’m gonna be right there reading it.
I’m a loyal fan. What can I say.
But whats hilarious is YOU. You remind me of a psychopath who just can’t admit to the fact that she has a problem. And calling ME a stalker is just rich. You may want to look up the definition in the dictionary again because you clearly have no idea as to what the hell it really means.
Especially when you come back over and over again to Sophia’s posts.LOL!
Oh well, your presence always does 2 things.
    1) It makes the post count go higher resulting in Jared to post even MORE about Sophia and
    2) It gives the rest of us a chance to laugh at your sorry a$$. ;-)

  • B

@Sarah: I know that but the way she talks is like she was defiantly going to be one when in true fact she thought about being one when in highschool then changed her mind when she was 17. (its the same concept as ‘How I nearly went to Afghnastan) Before 2010 she never once mentioned the nuerosurgeon surgery thing and now it’s suddenly in every interview.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Sophia I just don’t like how self-righteous she has become in the last few years. But she is helping people so who am I to complain?

Also, her father was a photographer was he not? Can you send me a link with info on him being a surgeon/proffessor? Because this is the first I’ve heard of it.

  • Sarah

If you go back to my earlier post, you’ll quickly realize that I said MY father is a heart surgeon and a professor. Not Sophia’s. Sophia’s father is actually a proffesional photographer who owns his own studio. I just said that about my father to make a point that a person can have more than one type of career and that there are plenty of people in the world with two very different professions.
And while I can’t recall which interview it was seeing as how there have been countless interviews over the years, she actually said in an interview several years back that she had dreamed of becoming a doctor since she was a child. It was one of the first interviews I’d ever read of hers.
And while you don’t agree, I don’t see her being self-righteous. I just see a woman who has been a die-hard lover of the environment with a strong passion for having a greener world and therefore is on a path to have more people help make it a better place to live in. And judging by all the people I’ve been reading saying how much they’ve turned there lives around by being more green, excerising more, etc. I’d say that she is doing one hell of a job.

  • B

@Sarah: Sorry i missed that it was YOUR father.

I’m not here to argue with you. As I have tried to say, I think Sophia is a great person and is doing great things. I just personally don’t like the way she comes across. It doesn’t mean I want her to stop or that I think she is a bad person. Just that she is self-praising. But that’s just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.

  • sarah

    I love her! she’s amazing!!!

  • jessica

    Wow haters you are unbelievable
You don’t like her, go your way
You don’t like her passion for activism, don’t listen her, don’t follow her on twitter, don’t read her interviews! It’s easy! Why waste your time with with someone you hate

We may not like the person she is (but still polite) but be objective on the fact that she’s a good actress (more than a lot of new young actress on cinema) and a very pretty woman

  • NYbaby

Sophia should go back to school. She sucks at acting anyway.

  • Janee8

    So Beautiful.. :O

  • Gina

And maybe you should get a reality check because from what I’ve been seeing, her fanbase only continues to grow more and more everyday.
