Dakota Fanning: Short Hair for 'Now Is Good'!

Dakota Fanning debuts a new dramatic ‘do on the set of her latest film, Now Is Good, on Monday (July 11) in London, England.

Also pictured getting ready to shoot some scenes: Dakota‘s co-stars Jeremy Irvine and Kaya Scodelario.

Dakota has a few other projects coming up as well, including the drama Very Good Girls and the thriller Mississippi Wild.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Dakota’s new ‘do? Do you think it’s a wig or did she chop off her locks?

I love how professional she is. A lot of other actresses (or just girls in general) probably wouldn’t cut their hair that short, especially when they can’t really pull it off that well – and to be honest, she doesn’t really pull it off that well. But she’s doing it for a role and clearly acting’s more important to her then her appearance, so good for her! She’s great! :)

    Please!!! Says:

I hope it’s a wig! It looks really bad!

    RebelYell Says:

Reminds me of something Meryll Streep would have done in her earlier years as an actress. I think Dakota has a bright future as an actress since she is willing to transform for a role as needed. She isn’t vain about it and that is refreshing. To bad more of young hollywood doesn’t have Dakota’s devotion to their craft.

    Mina Says:

Most likely a good wig, Dakota was slated to be in “My Sister’s Keeper” with Elle, but did not shave her head as Sofia Vassileva ended up doing. But still, pixie cut works on her.

    Asha Says:

Is that wig? I am surprised that she would cut her hair. I remember a few years ago when they did My Sister’s Keeper they had offered the role to Dakota but she refused because she would have had to cut her hair. There is no amount of money in the world for which I would cut my hair that short. Hope she wins an Oscar.

it looks cute! I hope she keeps it for a while and plays with it and does some cool things with it! I’m loving these young actresses right now taking risks and getting into fashion!

She’s so pretty but she looks way better with her long blonde hair :/

The girls that have been cutting their hair short like Emma Watson etc. all look so much better with long hair.

i read the book. its actually called “Before I Die” and I honestly cried when i read that book. Dakata is so brave taking on the challenge with this project and will surely not dissapoint ! :)

Hey remember Natalie Portman went “bald” for her Vendetta movie huh – and thats how professional actresses must be if it alls for the movie’s realistic purposes.

    janiece Says:

im surprised most people are actually being understanding towards the haircut. i was expecting nasty comments. i do think its ironic however, that its okay for dakota to do it for a role, but when kristen stewart cut her hair for the joan jett role and she received a ton of hateful comments about it. but regardless, its good see people appreciating dedicated actors like dakota

  18. 18
    kensrs Says:

She refused to take the role in My Sisters Keeper because they wouldn’t let her wear a bald cap, so why do you give her credit for cutting her hair now? Only reason she did it is it’s the new “thing” to do in Hollywood. She is a great actress but let’s not give her credit for doing something brave after she just refused to do it for another movie role.

    Gabby Says:

    She didn’t cut it. It’s a wig.

Nice guys, lets hold a grudge Says:

Dakota was much younger when she refused to cut her hair for my sister’s keeper. She was what, 15? Her high school classmates wouldn’t be as sympathetic to her choice than college students, she wouldn’t be able to be a bald cheerleader or be voted homecoming queen if she was bald!

  21. 21
Nice guys, lets hold a grudge Says:

I’m not saying that her classmates would discriminate against baldness, but she would look very strange in pictures. Those are memories she will and her kids will look back on…
Dakota is probably not a method actor who has to live her life exactly like her character. The producers are just milking the idea of Dakota going bald to make more money off her.
Cameron Diaz wore a bald cap in my sister’s keeper, just food for thought.

  22. 22
    Zest Says:

Emma Watson chopped her locks and she looks MUCH prettier… But Dakota? I don’t know… I think it’s a BIG NO NO!!!

  23. 23
    ClubbbBoi Says:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. She use to be hot now she looks like Ellen mixed with Eminem.

  24. 24
    Monica Says:

She wouldnt do the movie My Sister’s Keeper because she wouldnt shave her head and they didnt want her to wear a bald cap and now she cuts her hair and is seen as professional. Stupid. BUT maybe i’m being overly critical. I mean people change over time and its been a couple years. She was only a teen when they asked her to shave her head and that must have been hard for her to do. I guess she becoming more mature and professional. GOOODDD FOR DAKOTA.

  25. 25
    Jordan Says:

Weird seeing her with short hair. But doesn’t matter, she’s a great actor.

  26. 26
    Jena Says:

She look like Mr. Bean… Emma Watson do crop = Great.. Dakota Fanning do crop = Not so great…
And i don’t think haircut affects her career…

    Mel_M Says:

I like the change–real or not. For awhile, I’ve been thinking that something new would be nice.

  28. 28
    ila Says:

I think its a wig because for the didnt play the role in ‘my sisters keeper’ bcuz she had to shave her head.

  29. 29
    kå simply àmazing! Says:

    her sister pretty and cute.
    Dakota no

  30. 30
    Jenn Says:

There’s a difference between being bald and cutting your hair really short, though. And also, as others have said, she was like 15 and in high school around the time of My Sister’s Keeper. I don’t know anyone who’d be brave enough to go bald at all, let alone IN HIGH SCHOOL!

  31. 31
    Mel_M Says:

BTW, when does Mississippi Wild shoot? Seems like it disappeared from the news for 3 months or so.

  32. 32
    me Says:

I just can’t believe she cut her hair. I’m sure it is a wig. It doesn’t make her a bad or a not devoted actress. She has a lot of movies coming next, if she rly cut her hair she’ll have to do something like 3 movies with her hair like that. It seems impossible to me. I’m sure she can play the part perfectly with a wig. Some actors need to bring home the character with them, to always be their character even when the camera is not rolling, some others don’t. I think Dakota is part of the 2d type of actors. It doens’t make her less good…she’s one of the best. She’ll rock this part wig or not wig

  33. 33
    Marie Says:

@Nice guys, lets hold a grudge: Because being homecoming queen is sooo important! Dakota’s the best actress of her generation, but that’s not a risk in her career, that’s a WIG!

  34. 34
    njdhjf Says:

Have anyone thought that maybe Dakota didn’t think it was worth shaving her hair for My sister’s Keeper? Maybe she didn’t love the script that much. She ones said in an interview when she was asked how much she would change for a movie that it all depends, if you feel really strongly about it you will do anything for it.
So i guess she didn’t feel that strongly about My Sisters Keeper as she probably did for Now is Good.

  35. 35
    Alaia Says:

Stop acting like this girl is such a good actress because she supposedly cut her hair short. Elle is much better, anyway.

  36. 36
    kate Says:

when did she gain so much weight?

  37. 37
    lila Says:

that ***** didnt take the role for ‘my sisters keeper’ because she had to shave her head, so probably this is a WIG

    k88 Says:

OMG, she looks like a cross between Ellen Degeneres and Nurse Jackie! Dakota looks absolutely horrendous with this short hair style. Even if she put makeup on it would still be horrible. With this look, she could totally play Nurse Jackie’s younger sister!!!! Whoever wanted her to cut her hair this short should not be in business anylonger.

sorry but it makes her look ILL! super pale and short hair.yikes! hospital chic?

  43. 43
    evanna Says:

idk it could be a wig because i know dakota didnt want to cut her hair for the runaways and that was no where nearly as drastic and she was really sad when kristen actually cut her hair.

  44. 44
    maya Says:

she looks gorgeous but i prefer her with long hair doesn’t matter we will get used, Emma watson is a great actress i really like her

  45. 45
    marq Says:

I’m not saying the Fanning girls are great actresses, but, there probably isn’t room enough on the sidewalk along Hollywood’s walk of fame for stars big enough to commend the girls. Maybe if Hollywood annexed the San Fernando Valley. (The film rating system is arguably one the greatest evils on earth, it killed much of the bulk of man’s humanity by balkanizing the art of movies. Movies should have been left to naturally sort out by genres, not ratings. Now we have grotesque caricatures at the so-called “adult” end, and minimal texture on the purile side.) But hey, maybe that combined real estate still wouldn’t be room enough, as Dakota’s own name is already the size of two states.

    bill martin Says:

Oh please, like shaving her head “IN HIGH SKEWLL!!” would’ve been the worst thing in the world. What about actual cancer patients who don’t have a choice? She’s a vain, self-centered unempathetic person.
And nice try copying Nat Wolff’s new movie Special Things To Do. The plots sound exactly the same, but everyone will know which came first.

  47. 47
    Lynn Says:

She looks hideous; and please, in this age and time there is such an invention called WIGS, so no woman needs to go to that extreme for a role.

  48. 48
    Purple Poet Says:

She’s such a Jodie Foster wannabe.

  49. 49
    Chelsea Says:

This has to be based on the book Before I Die by Jenny Downham. It’s such a good book. Didn’t know they were making it into a movie! Wonderful!

This sounds sort of like Kristen Stewart’s old movie Cake Eaters.
A sick girl trying to lose her virginity.

    Jokergurl Says:

Dakota Fanning is really talented, she always has been. She’s held the screen with some powerhouse actors and actresses.

  52. 52
    fluffy Says:

I don’t get why she got flack for not shaving her head in “My Sister’s Keeper” or using a wig for this role. It’s called ACTING. It’s make-believe people! If she was playing a burn victim she wouldn’t torch her face and if her character had scars she wouldn’t slice herself up. Yes, hair grows back but it is not a good look for her and she shouldn’t have to look funny for a year or two for a role. Besides, then she will likely have to wear long haired wigs for other roles! I don’t think cutting your hair makes you a more committed actress. It’s usually a publicity stunt.

  53. 53
    Jenna Says:

I think it’s just her facial expression that’s making her look kinda bad. If she had her head up smiling I’d say it’s pretty.
