Daniel Craig: Rooney Mara Is 'Massively Impressive'

Daniel Craig suits in Brunello Cucinelli up for an appearance on The Tonight Show on Wednesday (July 20) in Burbank, Calif.

The 43-year-old British actor recently chatted with MTV News and gushed about working with Rooney Mara on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Rooney is massively impressive,” he said about the 26-year-old actress who plays Lisbeth Salander.

“She took [the role] under a massive amount of pressure because obviously there’s a lot of expectation. I was massively impressed and she absolutely nailed this. People are hopefully going to be incredibly surprised and happy with her performance,” he added.

@Bear: She was brilliant and the movie was great, yes, but the story of the books was so modified in the scripts and so much better than the movie, that ANY new take on it is deserved and is honoring the trilogy, especially if done by Fincher.

Bond 23: Rhys Ifans and Naomie Harris can help Daniel Craig’s James Bond recapture escapist magic
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/starsandstories/8650789/Bond-23-Rhys-Ifans-and-Naomie-Harris-can-help-Daniel-Craigs-James-Bond-recapture-escapist-magic.html

Mr Bond, we’ve been expecting you. (We just didn’t except it to be this long). James Bond fans have been waiting since 2008, but finally, come the autumn of 2012, they will be put out of their misery. Daniel Craig is about to don the famous tuxedo for a third time, and news of an exciting cast, possibly including Rhys Ifans and Naomie Harris, is leaking out.

Harris looks set to be Moneypenny, secretary of M (Judi Dench) and pre-action flirtation fixture for Bond. There is no news yet on Ifans’ role, but he would make a quirky Q, the gadget man who equips 007 with acid-spurting pens and watches that unzip ladies’ dresses.

I suspect ‘Bond 23′ (the title is yet to be announced) is a pivotal film for the franchise and for the actor.

Craig’s opening Bond movie, Casino Royale, was an agreeable first effort (helmed by the dependable Martin Campbell). It neatly, sharply modernised, but still retained the essence of, Ian Fleming’s terrific, maiden 007 novel.

But the last Bond film, Quantum of Solace, was a po-faced affair. Directed by Marc Forster, it felt too skimpy; its scope was too limited and its breathless, frenetic camerawork and editing too dizzying.

How long Craig seems to be contracted to play Bond seems to be a secret. When this next film became caught up in development hell because of owner MGM’s financial problems, there was speculation his tenure could be over. Thankfully the problems were sorted. But will Craig – who has created a muscular, memorable interpretation of the character – stay for one, two or three more films?

The actor was reportedly disappointed at Quantum’s reviews, and Bond producer Michael G Wilson, the stepson of the godfather of the Bond film series, Cubby Broccoli, pointedly chose Casino Royale as his favourite of the Craig films so far.

So Sam Mendes, Bond 23′s director, has a tough assignment ahead of him. In the same interview, Wilson also chose The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) as his favourite Roger Moore 007 movie. Which pleases me. As I would like to see that highly acclaimed chapter be used as the template for Craig’s third effort.

You remember the one. In which Bond and the beautiful Major Amasova (Barbara Bach) battle Jaws (Richard Kiel) amid the pyramids. And in which cold-hearted nutcase Stromberg (Curd Jurgens) steals some subs and launches some nukes to destroy Moscow and New York City. His intention? To initiate a global nuclear war, with his people all surviving in an underwater city, a new Atlantis.

Moonraker (1979) was even more far out, but its premise was not dissimilar. This time big bad Hugo Drax (wonderfully underplayed by Michael Lonsdale) wants to fly his master race into space in his fleet of space shuttles, while a deadly nerve gas wipes out everyone else on the planet.

The Bond producers have veered away from such outlandish plots in the Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig eras. Possibly fearful of ridicule from the likes of the Austin Powers series, and conscious they must compete with the Bourne films, the baddies’ gameplans have been decidedly more grounded.

In Quantum, the villain, Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), wants to charge the Bolivian government extortionate rates to use his water utility company. On the scale of fiendish plots, it makes barely a splash.

It would be nice, therefore, to throw the kitchen sink at this next one. The environmental debate is ever-topical. Many believe humanity has made a mess of the planet. Maybe Stromberg or Drax (or even Ernst Stavro Blofeld!) could be resurrected. Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Simon Russell Beale are believed to be in the frame. Kevin Spacey seems to be unavailable, sadly.

Be Bond, be proud would be my advice. Let’s have a bit more escapism again, life is serious enough as it is.

Oh, don’t be shy!! Daniel was so cute in his childhood.
Daniel Craig left red-faced as Jay Leno flashes old ‘Harry Potter’ school photo

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2017176/Daniel-Craig-blushes-Jay-Leno-flashes-old-photo-asks-Rachel-Weisz-wedding.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

He’s notorious for keeping his personal life out of the media spotlight, but Daniel Craig dropped his guard after an old photograph was exposed.
The Casino Royale actor has successfully kept his secrets close to his chest despite being one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars.
So it was a surprise for viewers of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno when he blushed as the host produced a snap from his schoolboy era.

The 43-year-old blushed and reached for his drink as he appeared on the US talk show, before giggling to himself and awkwardly staring at the ground.
In his school picture, the king of cool looked a little geeky and sported a dubious blond haircut.

Leno joked: ‘Apparently you were Harry Potter before Harry Potter.’

He also quizzed the BAFTA-nominee about his recent wedding to Rachel Weisz, which was a typically non-showbiz affair shrouded in secrecy.

Craig played it down, simply saying the ceremony happened ‘two or three weeks ago’.
He did manage a ‘thank you’ when the presenter congratulated him on marrying ‘the beautiful Rachel Weisz.’

The pair married in a low key ceremony last month in New York.
Fans were stunned as both parties had been in long-standing relationships before they said ‘I do’.
Weisz, 41, had just recently split from partner – and Black Swan director – Darren Aronofsky, with whom she has a five-year-old son and spent a decade with.
While Craig ended his relationship with film producer Satsuki Mitchell in 2010 after a six-year romance.

Now their sizzling chemistry has been captured on screen, as the real life lovers star in a series of romantic scenes in Dream House.
The couple grew close during filming in Canada last year, while playing a husband and wife in the psychological thriller.
The story follows a married couple who move into their dream home with their two young daughters, but the dream is shattered when they are haunted by former inhabitants who were murdered.

Craig also confirmed he will start shooting the new James Bond film in November for a 2012 release.

Jay Leno Asks About a Video of Daniel Craig Wearing a Dress (VIDEO)

    http://www.aoltv.com/2011/07/21/jay-leno-asks-about-a-video-of-daniel-craig-wearing-a-dress-vid/

Daniel Craig is the consummate ladies’ man as Agent 007, James Bond. In a bold marketing movie spearheaded by a producer of the movie franchise, though, he sported an entirely different suit, and Jay Leno wanted to know about it on ‘The Tonight Show’ (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC).

The short film, in support of International Women’s Day 2011, is called ‘Equals’ and features Craig and the voice of Judi Dench. Both are in character as Bond and M, respectively, but they’re discussing a very real issue in our world: Gender inequality.

In the spot, James Bond spends a few moments dressed as a woman, while M details the many inequalities that still exist between the genders.

“Funny as it is,” Craig said. “It obviously has a very serious point to it. I just wanted to get as many people to notice as possible.”

The full short film can be seen here.

This Week’s Cover: When Bond Met Indy
    http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/07/21/cowboys-and-aliens-harrison-ford-daniel-craig-this-weeks-cover/?utm_source

How do you interview tough guys like Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig? Carefully, very carefully. It also helps if you bring their Cowboys & Aliens director Jon Favreau in on the conversation. Last week, the three men sat down with EW at a ranch in Montana to discuss their upcoming genre-mashing sci-fi-western about extraterrestrials invading New Mexico in the 1870s. “A journey of redemption,” Craig calls the film, which is a lot more serious than its title suggests (it was produced by an all-star team of heavyweights, including Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer).

Beyond space invaders, the three amigos talk about everything from wearing chaps, to getting older, to their famous franchises. Ford describes how Tom Selleck almost got cast as Indiana Jones, and later reveals, “I thought Han Solo should have died at the end of the last Star Wars movie. Just because it seemed right for that character.” Craig, for his part, talks about former 007s (“I never liked Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan much,” he muttered, almost under his breath) and his role in the upcoming Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He also expresses feelings about registering for wedding gifts. (Hint: he’s not a fan.)

  • to Fio

Great cover, but it seems it’s a shitty interview.
Daniel has always said that Sean Connery is his favourite Bond, altough he grew up with Roger Moore being Bond.

  • Fio

Yeah, Daniel likes Connery as Bond. He has often told us. I thought this interview was intentionally vague or ambiguous. BTW there is a new thread on JJ :)
