Earlier this week, Daniel was spotted out with his new bride Rachel Weisz. The two went shopping for dresses in West Hollywood.

    The Bottom Line
It sounds kooky on paper but on the screen cowboys and aliens make beautiful, fun music together – This comic-book movie from Jon Favreau spends a gratifying amount of time on its characters and actors rather the visual FX.

Set where the oater and outer space collide, “Cowboys & Aliens” reps the first of a new breed of popcorn movie: the feature-length genre mash-up, in which unlikely bedfellows are spliced together for cheeky escapism and maximum coin (on the horizon: “Price and Prejudice and Zombies” and “How to Survive a Robot Uprising”). While the concept itself is more likely to inspire giggles than excitement, director Jon Favreau and no fewer than six writers have risen to the challenge of crafting a full-bodied, roundly satisfying yarn of it, positioning this to join the half dozen Westerns to crack the $100 million club.

  • Film Reviews
At the COWBOYS AND ALIENS premiere on Saturday night. Adam Beach won himself a fan for life when he showed up without a plus-one and gave away his extra ticket to a fan who had been sitting in the bleachers since 1 PM. Inside a refitted opera theater, director Jon Favreau came out to a standing ovation, brought all the cast and producers onstage, and made them take a bow to the folks who pay for the tickets. He compared the movie to that one last present you open on Christmas day that’s still a bit of a mystery, and let the fans know they could be honest with their feedback.

This was an important event: all the Universal bigwigs were there, including Adam Fogelson and Ron Meyer. Once the movie started, the fans were vocal when they wanted to be. Mainly any time an act of violence happened. Daniel Craig punching a guy till blood flies, for example, or an alien throwing Olivia Wilde into the air. Craig’s cool wrist-laser device was also well-liked. But the movie is most effective when Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig are onscreen together. Craig plays a good guy with a bad past, while Ford is kind of a bad guy (mostly because he lets his twitchy, psycho son played by Paul Dano do whatever he likes) who actually has a heart. They meet in the middle, metaphorically; but any scene of them staring each other down or hitting each other’s faces was well-received. As was almost any moment of Ford yelling, which he does a lot (and his Southern accent disappears when that happens). Nonetheless, this is Ford’s best work in a long time.

Rachel Weisz and husband Daniel Craig go shopping at Maxfield’s in West Hollywood. Keeping a low profile, they left the store separately Thursday.
I guess they want to keep a low profile, so Rachel didn’t attend at the red carpet.

    Hi All:

The reviews for the movie look great, can’t wait to see it. Daniel looks absolutely gorgeous, he cleans up so well!

They definetely want to keep their relationship private and they know what is best for them, I would not read anything into them not walking the red carpet together.

Actually kinda cool of them leaving the focus on the movie and comic con and not on them. Seeing what has happened to other celebrity couples having their relationship played out in the tabloids you can respect they want their privacy.

So wanted to see them all dressed up and happy together though, but pictures of him, preferably shirtless, will do just fine!

  • Craig

you’re optimistic but some people, like Daniel or Rachel don’t seem to be happy. surprising is that they left the store separately. Daniel was used to take Heike or Satsuki to every event but if he didn’t take “wife” to this premiere so it says something but who knows what happens next days. He looks good now but his eyes are sad. while giving interviews he didn’t sound joyful as well.

”Daniel was used to take Heike or Satsuki to every event”
Daniel took Rachel on the red carpet last night. He just walked alone.
I think he wanted to avoid a question only of his marriage story instead of the C&A topics. He said as such in EW. Leave them alone.

surprising is that they left the store separately.
Because Daniel sent the car around to the front door for Rachel, he earlier appeared than Rachel. I think it is pleasing manners or behavior.

COWBOYS & ALIENS PREMIERE AT COMIC CON, DANIEL CRAIG LOOKS TOO COOL FOR HIS OWN GOOD's the handkerchief, it’s definitely the handkerchief
Ever hoped that, outside his James Bond shell, Daniel Craig would be a pathetic, ugly and socially awkward man? Well get ready to have your hopes crushed. For when Daniel Craig isn’t playing James Bond, he still looks just as sharp. If anything, he actually looks 10x cooler outwith his 007 mantra. Just look at him up there at the Cowboys & Aliens premiere at Comic Con. Look at him and weep, because no matter how many pairs of Ray-Bans you own, you will never look as cool.

As if you needed any more pictures from Comic Con, the premiere for Cowboys & Aliens took place in San Diego on Saturday, with the cast and crew all being out-cooled by the aforementioned suavity of Daniel Craig.

Okay, he could have done with fastening up that bottom button, but when you’ve got that suit, those cufflinks, that handkerchief, those aviators, that watch and those shoes, who really cares? He doesn’t for starters, he’s James Bond! And more importantly, he’s now a cowboy… a cowbow fighting aliens! It doesn’t tend to get any cooler.

His co-star Harrison Ford tried and failed to match his charm, as he’s always just going to look like a weary old man stood next to his wife, Calista Flockhart. But considering she’s 46 and he’s 69 that’s not really a surprise. Meanwhle, the film’s director Jon Favreau hasn’t looked cool since he played that big bucks billionaire in Friends, and Seth Green continues to look like a bit silly stood next to his foot taller girlfriend, Clare Grant.

Steven Spielberg, Olivia Wilde, Ana de la Reguera and Community’s Joel McHale were also pictured at the premiere for Cowboys & Aliens, the trailer for which you can watch below…

Cowboys and Aliens will blow you away and make you cry
Annalee Newitz—Jon Favreau introduced the Cowboys and Aliens premiere at Comic-Con last night by telling us that it would be like the surprise Christmas present under the tree that you kept shaking, trying to figure out what was inside. And then it turned out to be unexpectedly awesome.

He was right — his new flick really was like a nice present after a summer film season of sequels and adaptations that didn’t give us anything we didn’t already expect. Spoiler-free first impressions ahead!

In case you were holding your breath and crossing your fingers for an eye-peeling, heart-pounding flick to make the summer end in a bang – yes, this movie is definitely awesome. It’s packed with gorgeous imagery, down-and-dirty action, and an amazing, nuanced performance from Harrison Ford. Though the whole cast was terrific, I really felt like this was Ford’s film. As a grizzled old war vet whose toughness has alienated his only son, Ford managed to strike the perfect chord of badassery mixed with kindhearted regret. Who thought that a movie about cowboys, Indians, and villains fighting creepy-ass aliens would also pack an emotional punch? I didn’t. And so when the tearful moments came — right in the middle of battle — it was a pleasure to feel more than just bloodlust.

Not that there wasn’t plenty of bloodlust, and cheering for the good guys to band together against a common enemy. Though the aliens themselves weren’t terribly different from a lot of other creatures we’ve seen zooming down from space in other movies, their mission on Earth was wholly original and offered a clever twist on Western themes.

The spaceships looked great, right down to their lasso-like alien tech; and the alien ship was gorgeously designed to look look like something right out of the craggy landscape of the American west. Truly, this was the Weird Western done right. Favreau and his team blended their alien invasion and Western imagery seamlessly, in a way that you may have imagined but probably haven’t seen done well before.

The plot was, as producer Roberto Orci told us last year at Comic-Con, a play on classic John Ford Western The Searchers — except this time, the aliens have abducted the people our heroes love, and the Indians are allies.

The ensemble cast worked terrifically well, with Adam Beach stealing the show as Ford’s surrogate son who has always been more likely to follow in the old man’s footsteps than his loutish blood kin. Sam Rockwell and Daniel Craig are also fantastic, and there’s a slightly cheesy but nevertheless cool twist with one character that really put the flick into X-Files-y goodness territory.

I’m not going to tell you any more than that. Just see it, fer crissake. And if you’re the kind of person who cries in movies, like me, bring a hankie too.

At the world premiere to Jon Favreau’s latest, Cowboys & Aliens, he introduced the film with a tale of his youth. He described his Christmas morning’s where he would never be surprised by the gifts his parents would give him, as he’d asked for them all himself. And yet one year, his grandfather gave Favreau a little brown box. This mysterious little box peaked the director’s interest so much that he’d spend nights wondering what it was. And when he finally got to open the present, he was dumb-founded, as his grandfather had found something so cool he didn’t even realize he wanted it. But it turned out to be the best present. And so Favreau explained that this metaphor stood for his latest sci-fi epic; it’s the present you didn’t even know you wanted.

As a fan of big spectacle summer blockbusters, naturally, I was really warming up to Cowboys & Aliens. It has a smashing cast (comprised of up-and-comers along with Hollywood royalty) and it’s directed by a very capable filmmaker. I had little to no knowledge of the graphic novel it was based on, so as far as plot goes, I was completely in the dark. For those of you that are still unsure of what this is about (as if the title doesn’t give you a general idea), Cowboys & Aliens is set in the Wild West and centers on a mysterious stranger, played by Daniel Craig, who wakes in the desert to find bizarre alien weaponry attached to his arm. As he arrives at the nearest town, populated by Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano and Harrison Ford, among others, this mysterious stranger realizes he’s wanted for a crime he can’t remember, and the terrifying creatures that gave him his new weaponry are coming back for him.

Cowboys & Aliens is played fast and loose. The film literally wastes no time in getting stuck into the action and it’s not long before we meet the titular aliens. This is the film’s strongest asset. The action is incredible. With a combination of good direction, great stunts and good effects work, the big set pieces work perfectly. Especially the climactic battle. Daniel Craig makes for a very convincing badass cowboy, so his hard edged attitude gives the action an extra little boost. I won’t spoil the look of the human’s opponents, but I really like the design. They’re smiley, nasty and creepy.

The performances range from great (Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig) to extremely mediocre (Olivia Wilde). There are a handful of scenes where you’ll be glued to the screen by Ford’s presence and line delivery. He’s actually so good here that it almost accentuates the blandness of Wilde’s performance. When the two share the screen you’ll be left wondering how she even got the role. It’s not that she’s particularly awful…she just seems so…vacant. As if she’s just not interested. Or she’s Xanax’d herself up nice and good.

I apologize for the all too brief review, but as I’m still Stateside, my time online is limited while I’m moving around. If I get a chance, I’ll add to the review tomorrow and dig a little deeper. But for now; Cowboys & Aliens is a good summer movie. It may not be the best this summer or this year, but it’s certainly an entertaining epic worth catching next weekend.

Daniel Craig Bought Beer For Crew Every Time He Lost His Hat
The hat Daniel Craig wore in new movie Cowboys & Aliens cost him a small fortune in booze on the set – because it wouldn’t stay on his head.

The movie star tells WENN filming had to be halted every time his hat flew off his head during horseriding scenes and crewmembers had to walk back and pick it up from the dirt.

Embarrassed, Craig offered to buy beer every time he lost his hat.

He explains, “It was a bad hat which kept falling off… I lost it so many times on the set that I had to buy a crate of beer for all the wranglers every time, so I just glued that motherf**ker to my head!”

Wow, hey guys, let’s geek out tonight!!

Daniel appeared on The Today Show this morning. OMG, he is absolutely gorgeous!!!!

Daniel Craig appears on ‘Today’, Ann Curry tries to hump his leg
CB sent me this morning’s Today interview with Daniel Craig, below. She noted that Ann Curry was particularly nauseating and fan-girly with Daniel during the piece, and I think CB was underselling, honestly. Ann is the real star here, because the bitch is crazy. Daniel’s half – the sane half – is fairly interesting if you’re a fan, but he’s not really talking about anything new. Daniel doesn’t prepare “stories” and he doesn’t care enough about any of us to try to amuse us. He’s not a clown. He’s not a famewhore. He just wants to be an actor and keep his head down, unless it‘s a print interview in a men‘s magazine, in which he‘s just going to talk politics and curse a lot. I will say this again, though: he seems much looser now that he and Rachel and married. He doesn’t seem as dark and curmudgeony. But you’ll barely notice because Ann is basically licking him with her eyes and her tone:

I mean… get it together, Ann. This is getting embarrassing. Remember when she tried to molest Brad Pitt in Cannes? She was like a stalker, trying to touch his hair and his face. It feels like the same thing here – it’s beyond sycophantic celebrity-journalism and it’s just become creepy. I feel bad saying this because it’s a criticism often lobbed at women, but here it is: Ann needs to get laid. She needs to stop trying to get into the pants of these celebrities she’s interviewing.

As I sat here thinking about the whole issue of “How friendly/nice/flirtatious should a celebrity interviewer be with a celebrity?” it got me to thinking about what I would do if I was sitting across from Michael Fassbender, trying to interview him. I would be a mess. I would *literally* try to hump his leg and lick him. I would probably cry, just because I really am that big of a fan-girl loser. But I think it would only be with Fassie – anyone else, I would be able to keep my cool, much more so than Ann. So is Daniel Craig just Ann Curry’s “Fassbender”? I don’t think so. I think she just gets horny for every over-40 celebrity dude and she tries to show them all her Curry Biscuits.

Movie Review: COWBOYS & ALIENS – A Great Classic Western… with Aliens!

Cowboys & Aliens is the first film I’ve ever been to where I actually got to attend the world premiere. As most of you probably heard, Jon Favreau had the world premiere for the film during San Diego Comic-Con 2011, and it became a huge geek fan event. Favreau did this all for the fans as a way of thanking them for all the support they’ve given him over the years, and I was extremely lucky enough to have been able to attend.

Cowboys & Aliens is a film I’ve been excited about seeing since Favreau showed off the first footage of it at last years Comic-Con. I’ve been following it very closely since the film’s been announced, and I just got more and more excited about it as the release date approached. I’m a huge fan of both the sic-fi genre and the western genre, so mixing these two elements together just seemed like a great idea to me. Its Cowboys
fighting off aliens! How can that not be an entertaining film, and if anyone could pull this film adaptation off properly, it was Favreau.

In my opinion, Favreau ended up delivering one hell of a fun flick. He created a gritty dark hardcore western with an alien invasion element that took the film to a whole new level of awesomeness. If you would have taken out the whole alien element of the film, and turned the aliens into a gang kidnapping murdering ruthless bandits, the film would have been just as good as a regular old school western. The fact of the matter is the story was solid, it was exciting, I had a great time watching it and I don’t think anyone other than Favreau could have pulled it off so well.

It’s safe to say that this film is more of a western than a sic-fi film, and that’s what I really liked about it. There aren’t many good westerns getting made these days and I think that’s a shame. So when I see a solid film like Cowboys & Aliens I can’t help but get excited about the possibilities of what can be done with this genre to give it a fresh new life. There was a good balance between the drama and action in the film, but if you’re expecting non-stop action this movie won’t give it to you. This film has an actual story, character development and there’s some fun humor added for some extra flavor. Yes, of course there is action, and the action sequences are amazing, I’m just saying that the film isn’t one action scene after another. They take the time to tell the story, and that’s a good thing.

I really loved the old school western grittiness of the film, mixed with this crazy torturous looking alien technology. The special effects in this film were great, and the alien creature designs were very menacing looking, these things were hardcore, big and badass. These are aliens I would not want to mess with, and while watching the movie I couldn’t help but think how awesome it would be to see these aliens go to war with Ridley Scott’s Aliens, and Predator, because I think these new aliens could give them a run for their money.

Unsurprisingly, the acting in this film was fantastic. You can tell everyone gave a hundred percent. Daniel Craig was a complete badass in the film and you can’t help but love how he portrays the character. It was awesome seeing Harrison Ford play a ruthless cowboy. Olivia Wilde was both beautiful and great in her role, and Sam Rockwell is always fun to watch up on the big screen. Everyone else were great in their roles!

Cowboys & Aliens was truly entertaining, but I also don’t think it’s a movie for everyone. I like these kinds of movies, but I can see how some people might not buy into this kind of world. I noticed when the trailer would play in movie theaters the general audience would kind of blow off the film off with a laugh. But for those of you who read GeekTyrant, if this is a film that you’ve been looking forward to, then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in what Favreau has created. If for some reason you think the film looks stupid from the trailers that have been released then you might just be pleasantly surprised.

That being said, I had such a great time watching the film that I can’t help but recommend that you go out and watch the movie when it’s released later this week! If for some reason you’re on the fense about seeing the film, please give it a chance. This is simply a great classic western with aliens!

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents – townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors – all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

I would be right ON that hat the second it left his head–and yes, I am going to say it–I would get his hat that fell off his body even without getting a beer! I would catch all his clothes for him and decline the beer!! damn dan!!

And yes, i am happy he is on the east coast again…wow. Do either of them have their pilots license YET? or their own jet?

And the news keeps mentioning about Steig and how the extreeemissts are prevalent in that part of the world that he wrote about in the Lizbeth books. Hhhmmmm. So awful Steig’s insight went unnoticed until something horrrific happens…his death and the camp. But think of all the pooop that will hit the fan, or at least i hope it will, after the movies come out here…so many social issues brought out, right my friend? what do you think will come of it in the UK mendel?

~G thx for posting–it took some time away from my aching for my kids. AND “my Dan” yesterday had emergency knee surgery–so I still remember what dan said about his when he gets older…freaky funny, but knee surgery is THE WORST. ~ciao, be happy
