Emma Stone Covers 'Entertainment Weekly'

Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer cover Entertainment Weekly‘s latest issue, on newsstands Friday (August 5).

Here’s what the ladies of The Help had to share:

Octavia, on loving her role in the film:“I am thrilled to be playing this woman. She is a human being with the breadth and depth of emotions, and she is a contributing member of society. It should not be ‘Why is Viola Davis playing a maid in 2011?’ I think it should be ‘Viola Davis plays a maid and she gives the f—ing performance of her life.’”

Viola, on hoping people give the film a chance: “There are few movies coming out this year with African-American women in them. Very few are being made. Black actresses have enough obstacles in our way without someone protesting an opportunity for us to show our work on screen. It’s one thing if you go see The Help and you don’t like it. But give it a chance!”

  • Lola

Viola is a fantastic actress. Still upset she didn’t get that Oscar a couple of years back.

  • QQQQ

Yes, Viola is an awesome actress. She was fantastic in Doubt.

  • Delilah

I loved Viola in Doubt! I think people need to understand that this story is set in the old days when stuff like this was actually happening. This story is about the old south, from maybe the 50′s or 60′s when there was a lot of problems.

Viola Davis is an amazing actress. These things happened in our nation’s history. Burying them in the sand does a disservice to those that lived through it. The Help is a good read and there really hasn’t been many good stories for women this summer. I love Emma too.

  • sara

what are you talking about? Emma has been in 4 magazine’s covers (Elle, Teen vogue, Vanity fair) in the last 2 months. this is overexposure imo.

  • maz

love the cast, love the book! Cant wait for the movie to come out!!

  • Maria

@Lola: if you read the book and this film does justice, Viola will win the Oscar! The book is a must read. I can’t wait to see the movie.

  • Zoe Moon

I HAVE to see this movie. Anything with Viola Davis in it will be fantastic. Emma and Octavia are also great as well. I think this movie will do great at the box office. Besides I love hearing, seeing, and reading about the African American experience. It is full of triumph, heartache, strength, courage, and commitment.

  • Quinn

    Another one who LOVES Viola!

  • A

Sorry, Viola, won’t be seeing this movie.
