Cate Blanchett: 'Uncle Vanya' in Washington, D.C.

Cate Blanchett is picture perfect in Armani at the opening night reception for the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Uncle Vanya on Saturday (August 6) in Washington, D.C.

The 42-year-old Aussie actress and her husband, Andrew Upton, currently serve as the artistic directors of the company.

The opening night celebration was hosted by Australian Ambassador Kim Beazley, who posed for photos with Cate and is pictured inside.

FYI: Uncle Vanya, a play by Anton Chekhov, was first published in 1897 but was adapted for the production by Andrew. The Sydney Theatre Company also performed the play down under in November!

Cate is so gorgeous, so classy. I love her. The best actress ever. I would like to see her on the stage.

I am going to see her on Friday.
    Can’t wait.
Saw her last year in Streetcar and everybody was in a state of schok at the end-the last scene was so powerfull.

That’s not Andrew Upton with Cate B. That is the Australian ambassador to the USA, Kim Beazley.

I would like to see Cate in A Streetcar named desire. The reviews were superb. Cate is the most talented and classy actress in the world.

  • jasmina

Reviews for Streetcar were fantastic, but they didn.t do Cate’s perfomance justice, because it was undiscribeble-so emotional.
Cate was crying and smiling long after she was done, while audience was aplauding. She was all sweaty, crying and smiling- she gave all of herself to that perfomance.
I just don,t beleive she can top that in Uncle Vanya.

@jasmina: I don’t expect Cate to match that phenomenal performance in Streetcar, but it is refreshing to read yet more raves for her performance by the NYT & Washington Post. With Uncle Vanya, Cate has a much smaller & less significant role, not to mention Chekhov and Williams couldn’t be more different, so I think we have to not think of it as “let’s see if she can top it” but just be thrilled to be given the opportunity to watch an actress at the top of her game doing what she loves and performing so brilliantly. To quote Ben Brantley (NYT):”she confirms her status as one of the best and bravest actresses on the planet’. Ain’t that the truth? :) I’ll be @ the Kennedy Center in a few weeks & I can’t WAIT to see this production!

    I totaly agree with you.
It’s nice for me to see how much people appreciate her talent and her choices.

That isn’t Andrew Upton, it’s Kim Beazley. He is a politician.
