    I admit that I was originally only interested in “Coriolanus” because Mr. Butler is in it. But after watching the trailer I think this film is going to blow people against the wall and pin them there, Between Gerry & Ralph Fiennes there’s enough raging testosterone on the screen to make it explode and the hard rock soundtrack is a bonus for a closet head banger past her prime like me! ;-D

  • Anna

    I’m supar excited! Gerard is one of the most gorgoeus men I’ve ever seen! Love..

  • lilith

    one of the 2011 must-see :)

  • mika

    I’m sorry, Jared, but this film is about Ralph, not Gerard!
    he’s the main actor, he’s the director, he’s the ONE!

  • What a shame

    I miss the way he looks here. I guess thats the past. He looks absolutely dreadful these days.

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @What a shame: Hi What a Shame. Don’t worry about it. Gerry is a chameleon who reinvents himself for each role he takes. His look right now is surfer dude for “Mavericks” but I doubt very much that it will last. For the purists who say that Frosty was chubby (and I’ve seen the pics…he was), I think they’re using a bit of artistic license for the film. After all, who wants to watch a shirtless chubby guy surf? I’m not trying to insult chubby people either…seeing as I am one! :-P

  • GFW

    Nothing wrong with posting it here. He IS in the film after all. And it should garner him more hits to his site, and nothing wrong with that either.
    -
    I’ll agree with his build here liking far better than his leaner look. I’m in agreement with the Oscar poster that this film is pure quality through and through. It was a labor, literally, of love. Gerry was selected for a respectable reason: his history in film, his presence, his imposing build different than Ralph’s, but mostly for his wordless ability to say more with his face and body than that (beautiful) mouth.

    After viewing the trailer….I think we’ve got a winner!! Good luck to all the cast and crew…and Gerry!! He looks fabulous in that!

  • home town blues
  • jennychi

    Much more handsome then. OK, nearly 2 years ago, but time has certainly not improved his looks. He looks stringy and too skinny now. Really don’t like the new GB – does NOTHING for me. I accept that everyone changes their looks for different roles, but the difference between the Corio trailer and the ‘skinnymalinki’ in yesterday’s locker room Ewww is extraordinary.

  • Manny

    @jennychi:
    .
    I have to agree. Butler looked soooo good when filming Coriolanus.
    .
    I guess Butler has his reasons for his latest body sculpture, but I for one am not a fan of it.
    .
    @justsayin’too – ITAWY. Joe is a nummy morsel…
    .
    @home town blues:
    .
    Butler is kind of damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t…….

    I hear ya mate and will take it to heart.

    @home town blues: Hi home town blues…yep I just read that in a Google Alert Ah well, a hometown sports team scorned may be the one thing in the world that hath more fury than…

    .
    I would agree considering how seriously they take their football…

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @Manny: Hey, Manny…I’m from New England in the US, and many Red Sox & Patriots fans are EXACTLY the same way (my hubby’s been a Pats ticket holder for years so I am intimately familiar with the phenomenon)!

  • sockpuppet

    any one got the dough to bid on Gerard’s signed Celtic shirt?

    http://www.celticcharityfund.org.uk/auctions/auctionindex

  • angelsrock

    @home town blues:

    Kind of like Baltimore natives who claim the Steelers as their team. Booooo!! Go Ravens!!

    I understand how St. Mirren supporters feel, but for heaven’s sake he jumped ship when he was 6 years old, not recently. He’s been a Celtic fan his whole life. Sometimes you latch onto a team and their yours forever.

    Gerry really should try to be more supportive of his “roots’.

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @sockpuppet: Hi sockpuppet…nope. I was actually considering it until I found out that 200 British Sterling translates to about $350 U.S. I knew it would get expensive but no way could I rationalize it to the hubby. Unfortunately…

  • cubedweller

    @home town blues: Seems he’s always getting the scolding finger for something by his home town folks. Not surprising he doesn’t spend more time there, if they are so quick to attack him.
    .
    @Paisley: “I think they’re using a bit of artistic license for the film. After all, who wants to watch a shirtless chubby guy surf?”
    .
    Good point. If Butler is shrinking down to be a stringy scrawny surfer dude, that means he’s not too concerned about an accurate physical portrayal of his character. Which I think is too bad, because I think that direction kind of puts personal ego in front of acting. Does he want to look like a character, or does he want to look like what HE wants to look like? IMO he was physically perfect for the role 6 weeks ago, when the wet suit pics came out. He looked build and age appropriate for the portrayal of Frosty. But again, I’m not totally buying the pr that the weight loss is all for a role. If he loses any more mass, a slight breeze will send him aloft.

  • The Noise In The Walls

    Thanks for the article…Home Town Blues…I know Europe defintely takes their “footie”..Futbol, soccer etc..seriously….but considering Gerry was only six years of age when he made the switch??.. Huh?..I’m sure it was all in jest…

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @cubedweller: Hi cubedweller…hey, I’m a CD too! I’m not necessarily sure that it’s Gerry’s decision to make. Ultimately the Hollywood machine is about box office returns, and it’s quite possible that they had the final say in the matter. Peace!

  • Manny

    @Paisley:
    .
    I can totally understand that. My hubby’s best friend is a die-hard Yankee man (boos). So my hubby cheers for whomever is playing the Yankees. :)
    .
    @cubedweller:
    .
    I so agree with you. He was perfect 6 weeks ago. :)

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @cubedweller: CD – don’t get me wrong…I’m not saying that the man couldn’t stand to regain 10 lbs or so by any means. I could handle seeing him with a bit more meat on his bones too, but I think the panic is a bit overdone…I know that I was swept along with the tide myself. But when you look back at his early work (Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married, The Young Person’s Guid to Becoming a Rock Star, Fast Food & such), he was quite slim then as well.

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com Paisley

    @Manny: Manny that’s hysterical. My husband is the exact same way. He has a bit of good natured back & forth harrassment going with our next door neighbor who’s a Yankees fan. He roots for whoever’s playing AGAINST the Yankees. Same thing for the NY Jets…it’s all really rather amusing. :-D

  • The Noise In The Walls

    Actors/actresses tend to go up and down on their weight depending on what roles they get…Not sure why Gerry has slimmed down so..maybe it is for a role etc..Mavericks?..or whatever..but my personal preference on him is added weight…He looks better TO ME..plus he’s got height..but I suppose it’s all in personal preference…

  • N.

    G got the highest bid, higher than Larsson, at 1050 pounds last time I saw. Wonder if the shirt was laundered ;)

  • Sugarbaby Jane

    Check the bidders list. High bidder is Framolamdu – Moira Fraser.

  • Latesummer’s Eve

    @Sugarbaby Jane:

    If that’s true then it better end up as an auction piece at the GALS con next year and I hope the economy is better. Their attendance was way low this year. LOL!

    @N.: YIKES…I just converted that. $1697.65 U.S….OUCH!

  • GFW

    @27. Wow what a surprise! [read: not] Figures. She’s trying to buy his No. 1 Fan spot. Think she wants a chapter in his biography. ;o) [read: truth] Guess he can expect to see her, and other women of means, in the audiences again IF any of these (two) movies get prime-time air time. I’m kinda hopin’ for Charlie Rose… for him, Ralph and Redgrave.

  • nyob

    This looks potentially good. Butler looks seriously hot in it, and I don’t even normally like a man with a beard. He looks a hella lot better in this than in the recent pics with the skinny and long hair.

  • Canera

    I hope we see his name up for Oscar one for best supporting actor and the other for best actor.

  • Met him

    I just saw the trailer and I already wanted to see it before. Well acted by both from what I could see in the trailer so now I’m more than eager to spend the money to see it.

    His new project Bricklayer also seems like something worth watching.

  • cubfan34

    I just want him to get good reviews for a change. I don’t care about nominations.

  • sockpuppet

    @Paisley: someone on wo posted a tweet that Gerard bought his own shirt for 20,000. Not sure if that was pounds or dollars. Last I saw it had 78 bids on it.

    It all goes to charity so that is very cool.

  • justsayin’too

    One of the things I have always liked about GB is how he embraces different genres. I love him in all types of roles from drama to action. He looks amazing in this clip. I think I have figured out why I dislike this new look so much. I love to see him as a powerful presence on screen. In every movie I have seen him in he had that presence, even in a comedy. He just doesn’t have that same presence without the extra weight. He just looks wimpy now, I wonder how it will look on the big screen. It will be interesting to see and I hope that big, powerful, brawny GB comes back.

  • CorBlimey

    @Manny:
    Sorry for being so blunt on the last thread, but it’s like watching my two best mates fighting – it starts getting really painful after a while. I like you both, which means I can’t see why the fighting is necessary – but I guess it’s to be expected when two strong personalities occupy the same space. I’m being selfish though – it would be much easier for ME if the two of you didn’t fight. I apologise for jumping into the argument – not my place. Eve, that apology is for you also. I know I probably just made you angrier, and that was not my intention.
    .
    Back to my corner now. My holidays start in about an hour, so I won’t be around for a week or so. I hope everyone has a lovely week, full of happy, pleasant things – and yes, Manny, even rainbow-farting unicorns.. :D

  • cubedweller

    @sockpuppet: Good – I’m glad he got to keep the shirt, since I’m sure it meant a great deal to him. And it’s a generous sum for the charity as well, so a nice solution for everybody.
    .@cubfan34: Exactly – I’ll be very happy to be dazzled by a good performance. Honestly, who cares about Oscars? Hours and hours of self-important self-congratulations and nonsense. Instantly forgotten. Cuba Gooding Jr., anyone? Make me happy to spend my $11.00, Butler. that’s all I ask of you. Really looking forward to this film.

  • paula pielman

    Knowing Gerard Butler, I think a more apt title would be CoriolYOURanus.

  • Gremlin

    @paula pielman:
    AHAHAHAHAHAH GOOD ONE
    Of course FRAMO is the highest bidder.
    How the hell does she have money?? To do anything? Does she work??
    How does she have the money to chase Gerard all over the damn globe?
    Is Gerard scared of her by now?
    She’ll never get some d*ck from him…do you think she knows that by now?

  • CornholeANUS

    Won’t be seeing this pile of dung.
    NEXT!

    Can Gerard make a movie that’s actually watchable?

  • GFW

    @33 I agree. These two (latest films Machine Gun Preacher and Coriolanus) are vast departures and good ones too. Next up is, what can be, an even better one. My wish is he let these two films take care of themselves, and those pulling the strings worry about things, and focus on The Bricklayer. There is a lot of research that needs to be done. DC has its own culture and not one you can easily pull off by just reading The Washington Times or Washington Post. Nope. It is a very small town. It’s a Southern city whether they think it is or not. It needs exploring by air and by foot. Visit the Library of Congress, the surrounding areas. Get a feel for it. Ride the metro. Take the tours, all of them. Eat it up, become a Washingtonian. This “bricklayer” (and maybe I should put this under that thread, needs to be one of us.

    Which in the Hollywood Reporter is A BIG, BIG, BIG DEAL and HE has to know this. He does. He has to. No way he cannot. All actors live to see their names and projects with this kind of massive positive exposure. This is major reinforcement of his success status!!! (goalie arms)

    @43, They wish to have their own chapter in his auto-biography, which could be why he’s refusing to pen it. One word: EpicFail

    .
    @niknoks:
    .
    How are things going today mate? The news this morning said the courts have been open 24/7 to prosecute the rioters that have been arrested. Have things finally calmed down to a fever pitch yet?

  • Manny

    @Sis:
    .
    Maybe we should put bets on who of the three will finally win…
    .
    I’ll put my money on Frammie… she will mortgage anything to be the top dog IMO…

  • niknoks

    @Manny:

    Things have calmed right down now, it’s just about rebuilding our communities. The courts have been sitting 24/7 to process the rioters who were arrested at the time, to make room for all the rioters who are being arrested in police raids, a lot of them because they were stupid enough to brag about their antics on Twitter and Facebook.
    -
    Mr NikNoks is fast asleep, he’s been working 12 on 12 off since the riots started and leave will remain cancelled until the police raids have finished. If he doesn’t get up soon though I will eat the apple turnover I bought for him, it keeps looking at me. ;-p
