Jim Parrack: 'True Blood Is A Total Blessing'

Jim Parrack gets pensive in this shot for Da Man‘s August/September issue.

Here’s what the 30-year-old actor, who plays Hoyt Fortenberrry on True Blood, had to share with the mag:

On how the HBO show has changed his life: “True Blood is a total blessing. I went in for the part of Hoyt, which was very small at the time and the character description was literally ‘the most nondescript human being ever’ and I thought, ‘Well, that’s either an insult or an opportunity.’ [The role] has added a lot of public credibility to my career because when you cast an actor, you are in essence vouching for them.”

On whether he finds it more important to entertain viewers or please critics: “Everyone, on some level, is a critic. The audience makes its judgment. I make mine. So, to try to meet their needs seems like a tricky game to me. But I do want people to get something from whatever I am in, be it a movie or a TV show or a play. I love the audience because they are human beings seeking something and they have trusted us for a slice of time to offer up what they may need.”

@tom: not sure if you know yet but it has been picked up for season 5 :D

I have to say, he’s one of the players on TB who doesn’t get enough credit – between his S2 interactions with Maxine (who is also brilliant) and his looming love triangle with Jason and Jessica this season, JP’s portrayal of Hoyt is pretty great. It’s hard to be the guy everyone takes for granted and still make an impact.

Beautifully spoken Jim. Eloquent and sincere. Love your acting ability and intelligence. Such a pleasure meeting you last year at Bitten.

I like Hoyt!!!

Whatever he’s doing he just needs to keep it up. Jim has made Hoyt one of my absolutely favorite characters on TB! All the little nuances and details of character he brings to the role do not go unmissed. I especially love seeing scenes with Jason and Hoyt. Two superb, funny actors!
