Adam Levine Covers 'Out' September 2011

Adam Levine is smokin’ hot on the cover of Out magazine’s September 2011 issue.

Here’s what the 32-year-old singer and coach on The Voice had to share:

On growing up with a gay brother: “I can single-handedly dispel any ideas that sexuality is acquired. Trust me, you’re born with it. My brother is gay, and we knew when he was two. We all really wanted to provide some cushion for him and constantly let him know that it’s OK.”

On families who try to change gay kids: “A lot of people don’t want their kid to be gay and will fight it all costs, but I’ve got news for you – it’s a losing f—ing battle. You’ve got to embrace it from the beginning. That’s the only way to deal with it as a family. Otherwise you’re just screwing yourself over, and you’re going to make your kid miserable.”

On competition shows discouraging contestants from being out and proud: “What’s always pissed me off about Idol is wanting to mask that, for that to go unspoken…C’mon. You can’t be publicly gay? At this point? On a singing competition? Give me a break. You can’t hide basic components of these people’s lives. The fact that The Voice didn’t have any qualms about being completely about it is a great thing.”

At two years old? Come on now. Whether you believe someone is born gay or not, this is ridiculous. At two? He can barely speak clearly!!!

    Come on now.

    Lola-lay,
I’m glad ou ask that question. The problem is that people think of being gay only in sexual terms but the reality is that for all people gay a d straight there is more to us other than sexuality. At the age of 2 many gay children start showing preferences for colors, toys, games that don’t necessarily fit with what society expects from their gender. Such as boys inclining to play with dolls. This will continue as they get older and will later reflect as affinity for other activities not commonly practiced by straight boys. (e.g. Music, arts or non-physical sports). This is were bullying starts at school. All of this before they even understand what sexuality is.

In this day and age you would think that people would care about more important issues in the world. If he feels he has to out his brother to the world than who cares. Its not a big deal. Alot of people are open about being gay. So he feels he has to defend his sexuality, and mention his brother is. I think he should just stop putting other peoples business out there and concentrate on his own life. I personally dont care, but as an activists for Human & Equal rights. I think this is just wrong. There is a difference between being proud of a family member for being gay, but to put it out there so that you can say your not. That just seems childish and ignorant. To say I am not gay, but my brother is. Its like slapping the gay community in the face, but trying to excuse it because he knows someone who is gay!
